Name: Egressy Mátyás (18)

Nationality: Hungarian

Last seen:Budapest,near Lánchíd

Status: Missing / fate unknown

Case type: Long-term disappearance with unclear circumstances

Background:
Egressy Mátyás is a Hungarian man whose disappearance has drawn attention due to the lack of clear resolution, conflicting information, and unanswered questions surrounding his fate. Publicly available information about his personal life before the disappearance is limited.

Disappearance
  • The exact date and location of his disappearance are unclear or inconsistently reported in available sources.
  • There is no confirmed body, official death record, or universally accepted explanation for what happened to him.
  • It is not publicly clear whether foul play, accident, suicide, or voluntary disappearance was ever formally established by authorities.
Investigation & Official Handling
  • Information about a formal police investigation is scarce or not easily accessible.
  • No definitive conclusions appear to have been publicly released.
  • It is unknown whether the case remains officially open, closed, or inactive.
Media & Public Discussion
  • The case has been referenced sporadically in Hungarian-language discussions, but it has not received sustained international attention.
  • Online references are fragmented, with few primary sources and limited archival material.
  • There is no well-documented timeline consolidating confirmed facts versus speculation.
Outstanding Questions
  • When and where was Egressy Mátyás last reliably seen?
  • What verified records (travel, financial, phone, medical) exist after that point?
  • Was an official missing-person report filed, and if so, by whom?
  • Were any theories formally ruled out by authorities?
  • Are there Hungarian police files, court records, or newspaper archives that could clarify the case?

Purpose of Posting

I am seeking help to:
  • Locate primary Hungarian sources (news articles, police notices, archives).
  • Clarify the timeline and confirmed facts.
  • Determine whether this case has an official resolution that is not widely documented online.
  • Understand whether this is a genuine unresolved disappearance or a case obscured by missing records.
Based on what i found so far is that he went out to party with his friends on the night of 01.16 (Friday) and he was there had a few drinks but he was still well aware of everything around him and he was acting normaly. Then around 2:05-2:15am (01.17 saturday) he told his friends he wanted to go home so he is heading out. After that he walked to Március 15. Square to take the 907 night bus to Kelenföld wich is close to where he lived (the exact adress is not public). Then his last known position (based on his phone) is Örs vezér Square (around 4am) wich is on the other side of the city. Some people report saying the saw Mátyás a bit confused and looking around like he is searching for something around him.the he took the M2 tram wich went trough the city and cameras saw him at Kossuth Square wich is in the heart of the city he was last seen heading towards and walking onto the Lánc bridge(6:00-6:30am) but the cameras never saw him on the other side of the bridge like he vanished. There are theories but i wont take them certain
1.The camera on one of the boats captured someone falling into the Danube around the same time Mátyás was seen there. But the police havent found any bodies or never confirmed it was him since no one could confirm trough the footage.
2.He ran away.Wich is very unlikely based on the info thats public he is a very positive smart and kind kid. He is into sports and plays competetive tennis he also apperently got into a university in Italy wich he was very happy about and was looking foward to it so i think this is very unlikley.

PS: sorry if its a bit janky i had to translate it trough CHATGTP.I am just a guy who is trying to find out what happened to him and i tought i might try this forum sadly i am not capable of doing this type of detective work i have no clue where or how to start if anyone can help or will try to help it would mean a lot. I personally dont know Mátyás but i want the case to be solved so his family can find peace or even better their son.

The police information translated into English by Google Translate:

Mátyás is his given name, the surname is Egressy, in Hungary names are traditionally written as <surname> <given name>.

If there are written links in Hungarian then you can use Google translate, it's reliable (even in the gender pronouns get mixed up fro Hungarian, and Finnish), and post the links to the translations.

The article suggests that he may have been drugged at the party. He fell asleep on the bus after leaving the party, and was seen in a few different locations later. His behaviour was out of character, which supports a possible drugging.

He left the party at 2 a.m. and a body was seen falling from the bridge at 6:30 a.m. Ice on the river is making search efforts difficult.

If he was drugged, people who were at the party need to be interviewed.

"According to the father, Mátyás traveled on night bus 907. He fell asleep on the vehicle, was taken off the bus at Örs Vezér Square, and then surveillance cameras show that he took the HÉV to Csömör, returned to Budapest, took the metro to Kossuth Square, and from there to the Chain Bridge at half past six in the morning, the father told Blikk . The newspaper understands that the boy's key ring was also found at the bridge.
...

According to Blikk, a camera footage also shows Mátyás walking up the Chain Bridge, but not coming down. In addition, Index has obtained footage* from a boat on the Danube at 6:37 a.m. Sunday, showing someone falling into the icy water. The police are investigating whether there is a connection to the case of the missing young man."
