Portions of southwest Puerto Rico are now under flash flood warnings as the outer bands continue to stream across the Island. A dry law order has been instated for all of Puerto Rico. The sale of alcohol is prohibited “from this moment on,” and the dry law will remain in place for up to 24 hours or until authorities recommended otherwise.

Dorian has strengthened into a hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center’s 2 p.m. forecast update. Hurricane Dorian has sustained winds of 75 mph. Hurricane Dorian is currently located directly over St. Thomas, USVI.

Flash flood warnings continue on St. John and St. Thomas as the most vigorous part of the storm continues to lash the islands. An elevated weather station on Buck Island just south of St. Thomas reported sustained winds of 82 mph and a gust of 111 mph. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Dorian is forecast to continue strengthening during the next few days over the Atlantic waters.

Ugh, is it peak hurricane season already? After our devastation from Sandy, I am always following these storms up the coast. And no, I'm still not home yet. :(

Stay safe, will be watching this one, too.
Oh no JerseyGirl...still not home yet!!!

I hate hurricane season!!! I'm in central Fl, so watching this carefully. Just got back from the grocery store & some of the isles are getting cleaned out already.

Here is the latest spaghetti models from my favorite site boatus, so everyone may want to take a look:

No, I have fraud cases pending (took money, did not work) against 2 contractors who both later filed bankruptcy. Currently screening new contractors. The State has supplemental funding left over for the 1,000 homeowners still displaced so we are currently going through the red tape. ugh.

Central Fl. here- watching this silly storm. Still
haven't put the shingles back on the roof that Irma tore off. Don't need another one.
Our are power poles aren't in the best shape considering lightening has knocked my power off 5 times this summer.

Crossing my toes that this one changes course.

Same- my roof may not survive this one. So worried about insurance cancellation due to claims ( which happened to quite a few), and we were able to fix the roof holes from both storms trees hitting it- so didn't file. This comes in hot, and tears us up- filing.

Dorian Becomes A Hurricane Near St. Thomas In The U.S. Virgin Islands

Customers in Miami Shores were stocking up on water and other non-perishables just in case Hurricane Dorian turns toward South Florida.

While the Publix was pretty well-stocked with water stacked right at the front doors and things appeared to be running pretty smoothly, the Costco over in Miami Lakes was a bit more hectic with lines wrapping around the store as people scrambled for water.

Apparently, it was a similar scene over at another Costco in Pembroke Pines.

4pm- WFTV- Orlando- NO GOOD NEWS!
It's looking more and more likely that Central
Florida is going to be the target. If things change overnight tonight there's a small chance
the storm may not come ashore but that likelihood is getting slimmer and slimmer.

Thoughts and Prayers for those in the direction this one seems to be headed. Lets hope it takes a northeasterly turn back out to the ocean after it gets past the Virgin Islands.

Ive been in a few remnants of a hurricane but luckily never a direct hit. Even the remnants of one was bad enough for me so I got a feel for what people go through.

The most interesting thing I remember from it was the steady straight line winds that were about 40-50 MPH and never let up. Its so bizarre to experience steady winds like that for hours on end.

Then after the eye passed the winds shifted to the complete opposite direction and that was really bizarre too even though I knew it would happen.

Luckily that was many years ago and I have not had to deal with these types of storms anymore because I am nowhere near the coast anymore.

Take Care everyone.
Ill be checking back here often and hoping it takes a turn out to sea.

Yuck- they all go over my house or someone else home except for the orange one. Rooting for that orange model :)

Those models all seem to be pretty close which is not good news for much deviation. Last night the models I saw were much more varied but now they are all tight and almost on top of each other. Ugggggg

rsbm: straight line winds from 2 hurricanes ago- the one that hit Sept 11, took down 12 of our trees- in a line. It was insane. And were were on the right ( bad) side of the storm- not a direct hit

I feel for people who have to go through this. I grew up in Maryland and by the time a hurricane made it to us it was weakened to category 1 or tropical storm. The worst I remember was Hurricane Gloria which was a category 2 by the time it made it to Maryland. That was bad enough. I can't imagine going through a category 5 hurricane.

Red Cross officials say all of their volunteers are on stand-by. Shelter teams are ready to go across the region from Pensacola to Jacksonville.

The Red Cross has ordered push-packs which are full of supplies for volunteers and those impacted by a disaster. They include blankets, clean up kits, cots, ready made meals, and IT equipment, which gets set up at headquarters.

Our local forecast - I'm south of Tampa. Note in the video he mentions that all category 3 hurricane or higher have made landfall south of Stuart, FL since 1851. I remember being in Hurricane David in 1979 when I was in Melbourne, FL. It was a Cat 5 beast that bumped up the east coast of FL doing billions in damage. It officially made landfall in West Palm Beach but still, that thing was a monster.
State of emergency ahead of Dorian, which could grow to Category 3

As a sailboat owner ourselves, with plans to move from California to Florida's treasure coast, we're watching this closely.
I'm really curious to see what the boat owners are going to do. This whole area is heavily populated by boating communities.
I'm pretty sure I'd be looking for inland waterways North of Miami, right now.
The one good thing is you can move your boat. The bad thing is if you get caught up in something like this, you're likely to lose everything. Boats are no match for hurricanes.
