The system has been upgraded to Tropical Storm Humberto, and with it a clearer picture of where the center is and where it may go, and it's good news for Florida and the US, but does bring Bermuda into the question later on. Tropical Storm watches have been dropped for Florida, only warnings remain for the Bahamas, but it appears the storm will stay east of the islands, so only the weaker fringe effects will be felt there, but enough to keep tropical storm warnings up there.

This does mean Bermuda is potentially in the path down the road, so folks there should pay attention to the progress of the storm as it likely will be a hurricane by the time it nears there later in the week.

Key Messages:

1. Humberto will likely bring tropical-storm-force winds and heavy
rainfall to portions of the northwestern Bahamas on Saturday.
Significant storm surge is not expected in the northwest Bahamas
from this system. Residents there should follow any advice given by
local officials.

2. Heavy rainfall and scattered flash flooding is possible this
weekend in coastal sections of eastern Florida, Georgia, and South
Carolina. The chance of heavy rainfall affecting coastal North
Carolina early next week continues to diminish.

Tropical Storm Humberto is still well to the east of Florida and north of Abaco , but more disorganized than Dorian was, It is expected to stay out to sea, although Bermuda may need to watch. Currently there are no official watches/warnings up for Humberto anywhere.

Two other areas, one in the Gulf, an upper low, may form as it nears Texas, currently a 30% chance, but is likely to remain a rain-maker. Florida being between this and Humberto is breezy and getting quite a few short-lived rain bands today as a result.

Another area west of Africa may form with a 60% chance, but we will have a long time to watch it, this system likely will recurve out to sea before the US, but it is still worth watching.

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Tropical
Storm Humberto, centered just east-northeast of the northwestern
Bahamas.

1. An elongated area of disturbed weather is located about 750 miles
southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. Gradual development of this
system is possible during the next several days, and a tropical
depression could form by the middle of next week while it moves
westward across the tropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...60 percent.

2. A large area of cloudiness and showers over the eastern Gulf of
Mexico is associated with an upper-level low and a weak surface
trough. Only slow development of this system is likely during
the next couple of days while it moves westward over the western
Gulf of Mexico. This system is forecast to move inland along
the northwestern Gulf coast by late Monday or Tuesday and
development is not expected after that time.

* Formation chance through 5 days...low...30 percent.

Tropical Storm #Humberto continues to move slowly northward away from the Bahamas, and well to the east of Florida. While the storm is expected to strengthen during the coming days, it will remain well away from the U.S., posing only a threat at the beaches from large swells and rip currents. Humberto may pass near Bermuda later in the week.

Late Sunday, Humberto strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane. By early Monday, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 85 mph (137 kph). The storm was about 760 miles (1,223 kilometers) west of Bermuda and moving northeast at 5 mph (8 kph).

The U.S. National Hurricane Center said Humberto will bring large swells to the northwestern Bahamas and southeastern U.S. coast for several days.

Additional strengthening is forecast through Wednesday, when the eye of the storm is expected to be out in the open Atlantic.

Hurricane #Humberto continues to strengthen, now a Category 3 with max winds of 115 mph. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for Bermuda as Humberto is expected to pass close by to the north late Wednesday.

Tropical Tidbits
Tropical Depression Ten formed today in the central Atlantic. Expected to move WNW and strengthen, TD10 is forecast to pass north of the Leeward Islands. However, if the storm gets strong and fights off the dry air and shear it will be interacting with at the time, steering currents may take it farther south, closer to the islands, so keep an eye on the forecast.

Conditions through Thursday are fairly favorable for TD10 to strengthen. As mentioned, TD10 will have obstacles as it approaches the islands after that, and it's still uncertain how TD10 will react given its small size, which makes large ups and downs in intensity possible.

Bermuda braces for glancing blow from Category 3 Hurricane Humberto

Hurricane Humberto buffeted Bermuda with strong winds Wednesday night into Thursday morning, knocking out power for thousands as the Category 3 storm's center moved away from the island.

Humberto is forecast to weaken Thursday, leading the Bermuda Weather Service to end the British territory's tropical storm warning. Dangerous breaking waves could cause coastal flooding throughout Thursday, though the hurricane is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone by Friday.
