Hurricane Ike and Topical Storm Hanna

If anything maybe just some wind and rain. Maybe call the hospital? Prayers for her surgery.

Thanks for the prayers. I wonder if flights will be affected.

Every one please stay safe. Question which will show you how much I know about Texas. How close is Austin to where the storm is supposed to hit?

Austin is 164 miles NW from Houston . They are within the 275 mile radius of IKE if it hits where they are predicting . Traveling 35N from Corpus Christi ( coast of the gulf of Mexico ) - San Antonio is approx 2 hrs North Austin 3 hrs Waco 3.5 Temple 4 Dallas 5-6 hrs depending on traffic .

I'm pretty sure they've shut down the airports in the Houston area, especially Hobby which is close to Galveston.

We're starting to get more gusts and that whine of the wind. I can handle thunder, I can handle rain, I can handle the tornado threat, but I sure do hate that high pitched whine of the wind. It did make my older daughter's eyes bug when she first heard it--she froze for a minute!

I did.

Seriously, take care of yourself with the bayou issues.

I agree about all the tech issues, sometimes I have to get my younger daughter to help. The older one is too darn snotty about it!

This wine is good. I really don't like wine. My friend's daughter is doing the traveling vineyard thing. I got a dessert wine and it's gooooooooood.

WGreen's closed. Had my windows down and sunroof open. Windy but felt good.

From what I read, all Houston airports shut down by mid-day and flights were being diverted to Dallas, Austin, etc..

AWWWWWWWWWWW Fruck it!!! I'm tired of this new technology. Digital cameras, i-pods, mp3, etc. I buy them and can't frickin, figure them out. Then I just end up chucking them. Have no kids around to help me figure this chit out and the directions they give these days aren't worth crap. I'm gonna get a good ole fashioned camera next time. Sorry, for the rant.

Should I break out the wine yet?

Are you still surrounded by pine trees? doesnt take much for one of them to break 10 ft from ground(round 60 mph) Start flying around Dont know where one may land Please God! Dont let one hit the roof & cause the gable to sprinter and come down sharp on me I dont believe this mattress, bean bag chair, pillows will save me. Hope You dont have to feel like that for 8- 10 hours stright besides the 30 to an hour of the eye .

Be Prepared Stay Safe! I'm Praying for You.

kato,
keep your cell phones charged until you lose power.. then use it judiciously....i was hoping you could ring an out-of-town friend to check in here for you..

one of the problems being in the middle of a storm is others from far away know more about what's happening in your area than you.... when i arrived in homestead, 3 days after andrew, it was astonishing to learn how little the locals knew about the devastation.

texana,
hang tuff dearie, i didn't realize you were in the immediate area too....... ya'll be careful about venturing out in the eye, the backside often comes in fast, a puff or two then real gusts....

everyone, be very cautious about downed electrical wires!!!!!! review with your family where the safe spots are in case of a tornado..... pray !!!! be safe.

To all of you in the path of Ike.. stay safe, be wise, be careful, and keep your heads down until the worst passes.. I'll be thi nking of you and hoping that you are safe and weathering the storm well.. my prayers to each of you hunkering down tonight and to my friends down in that neck of the woods.

May he RIP and may the Lord be with his father. How can someone cope with that? :(

Yes, that happened this morning, heart breaking. May the Lord be with them, indeed.

Power flickering a bit, so keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We should be fine, but it is dark now, the wind is picking up that whine more, and I'm really hoping we can hang on to electricity for awhile yet. It will be more stressful in the dark with the wind.

Oddly enough, the skies were almost clear at sunset, a beautiful one.

It was purty, huh? Have seen a little lightning. We live in a townhouse so at least we are bordered on 2 sides and there is a 6' tall brick wall around our patio. I'm hooked up with cable out there in our storage room so sit out there drink my wine, smoke and don't have to miss any coverage. LOL My nifty BF rigged that up yrs. ago cuz he knows I hate to miss anything when I'm watching tv.

Thanx guys for reassuring me that my friend in The Woodlands will be ok. He said that he is just sick & tired of evacuating. I can't say that I blame him. He lived in New Orleans prior to Katrina....evacuated to Houston....then had to evacuate for Rita. His home in NO was destroyed. He then moved to Lake Tahoe, CA where he then had to evacuate from wildfires (lost another home) and moved back to Texas! Thank goodness he has a sense of humor about things....he calls himself a magnet for natural disasters.
