Ok, thanks for explaining, I'm a little behind on all that's going on. Just learned the hurricane had changed course, so that makes total sense. Not enough time now to flee the state. Is anyone here in its path? Cariis, aren't you down there somewhere?

Here's the list of 'sleuthers who live in/near the storm's path and have checked in on thread:

CARIIS = Orlando, Florida

Henry2326 = Charleston, South Carolina

Jax49 = Jacksonville, Florida--40 miles inland

oceanblueeyes = south Georgia (Lee County)

Turanna = Jupiter/West Palm Beach

Shin Masamura = Lakeland

Momrids6 = south east Georgia coast

Tripplogan = Jacksonville

Cat99 = Jacksonville

southernmimi = south Georgia

No it's not (NIN) = Bonita Springs FL, 1 1/2 miles from the beach

MaryG12 - Sarasota

katsrfun = Vero Beach, Florida

KinderedSpirits = Miramar (close to Miami)

Lonetraveler = Wilmington, North Carolina

SeesSeas = West Central FL, Pinellas County, half mile from Tampa Bay

Greater Than = Miami

ATasteofHoney = barrier island (Florida)

AC's Grandma = near Tampa (out of state for now)

fraudqueen = north-central Florida, 3 blocks from Atlantic

Tabirey = Myrtle Beach, South Carolina

bluedivergirl = near Ocala

Skully = north of Tampa

MoxieVi = Ocala

THATchick1021 = Dunedin (Zone E)

Charlie was suppossed to landfall there and I dont remember exact but there is sometihing serious in tampa as it relates to storn searge ( not dealing with spell check!) and the Bays etc

Is this the article, long read but Excellent IMHO with video. I think it might be as has the video you described https://www.washingtonpost.com/graph...=.de5b39adddeb Jul 28, 2017 - Sea-level rise could destroy Tampa Bay if a major hurricane hits .

"Tampa Bay is mesmerizing, with 700 miles of shoreline and some of the finest white sand beaches in the nation. But analysts say the metropolitan area is the most vulnerable in the United States to flooding and damage if a major hurricane ever scores a direct hit.

A Boston firm that analyzes potential catastrophic damage reported that the region would lose $175 billion in a storm the size of Hurricane Katrina. A World Bank study called Tampa Bay one of the 10 most at-risk areas on the globe. Yet the bay area — greater Tampa, St. Petersburg and Clearwater — has barely begun to assess the rate of sea-level rise and address its effects. Its slow response to a major threat is a case study in how American cities reluctantly prepare for the worst, even though signs of impacts from climate change abound all around. "

Near Orlando here. We evacuated, no idea what we'll find when we get home but our pets are safe and we can rebuild.

I hate this for you, oceanblueeyes. Hate it that you're dealing with the additional worry now. The hurricane, your trees, etc.

I was so relieved when your dh made it home alright. I thought the worst was over for you. When I posted this morning, I thought all your family was with you. Sounds like your daughter and granddaughter from Mexico Beach may be still on their way to your house though.

You gave her good advice about it being a bad idea to haul a boat with high winds. Not worth the risk.

Glad to hear too that you got many of the trees removed that were near your home. You've done everything right to prepare.

I still feel that you and your family will ride this out just fine, but I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers though.

Please keep us posted...

oh brother I must have misunderstood but makes sense

Hurricane center is in Mia

Pilot just said they will be in her till like 700 then have to leave for the duration cause his words they are in ground zero

the planes going in are really important look at how insane she has been in

it has nothing to do with intensity of the storm but where they takeoff from

andrew was small and a fast mover so I dont think that would matter -- Andrew murdered Homestead FL that is one of their takeoff places

There specialized aircraft so maybe they flew some higher up the state fly down?

There has to be come contingency for this

but that is what the pilot in the air who is now penetrating the eye said back at 7 and in

Goodness, that's quite a long list. Now I'm going to look at a map. Thanks, BDE!

...I have been watching the skies and our giant trees on our property and I noticed about an hour ago the wind is picking up and the top parts of the trees are beginning to sway back and forth. Thank goodness our largest trees aren't up around our home any longer. In December of last year we had 12 large pecan, pines, and oak trees cut down that sat closer to our home. I am even happier now that we decided to do it. Although the other tall trees left sit about 250 feet from the side of our home and I know they can be uprooted slamming into our home if the wind gets high like predicted for our area...

We don't have hurricanes in Michigan, tornadoes are rare, but we do get occasional "wind storms" that can cause major structural damage, uproot trees, toss vehicles, etc. Last March, we had a horrific wind event with gusts over 60 mph. Compared to the 130+ winds that accompany hurricanes, 60+ winds might not sound like it would cause significant damage, but we lost three 25-year-old, 30+ foot tall blue spruces that lined the rear of our property. Two of the trees toppled into the backyard, but one fell on the deck and damaged a gutter on its way down. Many neighbors lost trees, and their homes sustained more damage than our bent gutter.

I recall having left the house at 10:45 when it was quite windy but there hadn't been significant gusts. I had a class at the gym at noon and was in the habit of doing my weekly marketing before class so I could go right home afterwards. It was still cold in March, so I never worried about food spoiling while I spent an hour at the gym. When I got home, I was busy putting away groceries and didn't notice immediately that part of a spruce tree was laying on the deck and that two other spruces were laying on the ground in the backyard. When I finally glanced out the French doors to the deck, I couldn't figure out why there was a Christmas tree on the deck. The top of the 30+ foot tree had snapped off and left what looked like a perfect 8' holiday decoration :D

Be glad you had those trees removed and that the ones that remain are far enough from your house that they shouldn't cause structural damage. High winds might damage or uproot the trees, but hopefully, your home will be spared.

Thoughts and prayers continue for all the wonderful folks here who are in the path of Hurricane Irma.

Manatee County, FL emergency management, Tom Iovino, encouraging people to shelter in place. He says there isn't enough time from that area to evacuate. Find safe shelter now.

The 2:00 EURO model shows a tick further West from GFS...not good because it has a bit more time over water. You can See The initial approach to Naples slightly offshore in the first pic. The 2nd pic shows the center sitting on Tampa.

If you are in an evacuation zone, leave. This storm will grow as it leaves Cuba. Go to the nearest shelter NOW.

This scenario will cause serious wind consequences to South GA as the storm moves west with the strong side flowing acoss the area.

Mike's comments about EURO model consistent with mine....

"Hurricane Hunters are in now finding lower pressures. Irma starting her slow turn. EURO 12z bumps a tick west... inching closer to Tampa Bay area landfall. Its all about that turn. Scary. West coast of FL no matter what could see Cat 3/4 all the way to the Big Bend area. Hate to think it could be more. Keys have no escape. Panhandle same as before... heaviest to your east but would still keep alert. Tracks have slowly inched your way. GA/SC heavy squalls off the Atlantic from Irma's bands. New NHC at 5pm. Keep up with everything you need on Irma at*www.spaghettimodels.com*/ Mikes Weather Page APP / LIVE updates at*www.spaghettimodels.com/irma"
