Tough talk from Florida sheriff will almost certainly cause some who would have sought shelter from the storm to try and ride it out in a less safe location.

That makes me very sad. I can understand for like murder warrants.
However, they should let smaller ones go.
Like if someone forgot about a speeding ticket and didn't get it paid in time.
What if there are entire families not evacuating because one of the parents has a warrant like that?
It's very sad. All of it.

Oh, that is prejudice and will not fly in a court of law to keep certain people from seeking shelter. It is one of our most basic needs especially in times of flood waters. I, too, am saddened as it is akin to a roadblock for a minor few.

In the horrific aftermath of Katrina, an escaped prisoner from the flooded NOLA jail, slid behind the wheel of a high school bus, loaded it with evacuees and drove them safely into Houston. There comes a time to reach out and touch somebodies hand.

Found an interesting tip for food safety--sounds like a great idea.

If you are leaving, freeze a cup of water and after it is frozen lay a penny on top. When you return you'll know if your freezer thawed, or not.

[h=1]JetBlue is selling $99 tickets so people can escape Hurricane Irma[/h]
http://www.businessinsider.com/hurricane-irma-evacuation-jetblue-discounts-flights-99-dollars-2017-9

JetBlue said it's "offering any remaining seats in select markets" at reduced fares of between $99 and $159, including taxes.

American Airlines said it has capped the price of main cabin seats on single leg flights at $99. American said that most of the flights out of the area were now sold out, but the company was working to add more.

Delta announced it won't charge more than $399 for tickets on all flights to and from southern Florida and the Caribbean. That price cap will apply to all seats, including first class. Delta said it had seats available, but it doesn't fly to many locations out of southern Florida.

All three companies say their price caps will be in effect through September 13.

The US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has said in a new statement that people’s immigration status would not affect Irma rescue efforts:

"When it comes to rescuing people in the wake of Hurricane Irma, immigration status is not and will not be a factor. However, the laws will not be suspended, and we will be vigilant against any effort by criminals to exploit disruptions caused by the storm."

The statement said that for US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the highest priorities “are to promote life-saving and life-sustaining activities, the safe evacuation of people who are leaving the impacted area, the maintenance of public order, the prevention of the loss of property to the extent possible, and the speedy recovery of the region”.

DHS sent the press release hours after a Florida sheriff faced widespread backlash for tweets saying law enforcement would arrest people seeking shelter if they had outstanding warrants.

Immigrants currently jailed in detention centers in the projected path of the hurricane have been transferred to other facilities, the statement added.

Evacuation orders were issued for Miami-Dade’s barrier islands, including Miami Beach and Key Biscayne, and other coastal areas in south Dade and in parts of Miami and areas north. The areas are considered particularly vulnerable to storm surge.

The orders apply to county Zone A, which covers Key Biscayne and coastal areas of Southeast Miami-Dade and north of Miami, and to only the barrier islands of Zone B. The orders take effect at 9 a.m. Thursday.
