Austin is still out at a lot of stations, drive by a couple on Sunday out here with their pumps covered.

Looks like that vacay to the Dominican on Friday is slipping further and further away.....

I used gas buddy app on my phone (and also on computer) to know open gas stations and prices.

It shows prices, and when the last update on prices were etc. so you would know if station is open after a storm etc. (See current below screen shot of stations and prices..go LIVE and check to see when last update was though!

HTH

Yeah, I would nix the vacay which I've been following with ya

CNN weather expert's advice (paraphrased):

If you are retired and live in south Florida and have relatives in Michigan, now is a great time to go visit.

Several of my "retired" neighbors have winter condos/homes in Florida. They might be fine here for now but are probably worried sick about their Florida properties :scared:

Only three category 5 hurricanes have made landfall in the United States, including the Florida Keys Labor Day Hurricane in 1935, 1969’s Hurricane Camille and Hurricane Andrew in 1992.

Irma's forecast truck currently has it near Antigua and Barbuda by late Tuesday or early Wednesday, and the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico Wednesday afternoon.

Floridians had already begun to prepare before the emergency order issued Monday afternoon. Shelves of water had already been cleared out at several Walmart locations.

American Airlines Monday afternoon canceled flights into St. Kitts and St. Maarten for both Tuesday and Wednesday, but added additional flights leaving each destination for those looking to leave before the storm.

Experts warn it could additionally affect Georgia and the Carolinas, or even make its way into the Eastern Gulf of Mexico.

The storm is expected to dump at least 4 to 8 inches with maximum amounts of 12 inches across the northern Leeward Islands, the British and U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.

Irma is expected to remain a category 4 or 5 hurricane in the coming days, NWS reports.

OK.. Cariis and Henry and others have the technical stuff as to the storm. I'd like to take the BIG R for mapping traffic two times a day or so for folks here so folks know when the interstates are :gaah: :pullhair: time to go!

As this IS the go to place for us all :grouphug:

Right now... big map, later I'll do Florida. It shows traffic now in TX and Miami is RED areas.

My husband, who works in the insurance industry, says it will be another bad year or two for wages, raises and bonuses, thanks to the hurricanes. That's over 30,000 people in his company alone, most of whom are not well off.

Folks in the hurricane affected areas, please take your cars with you when you evacuate instead of leaving them behind to be destroyed. Latest news shows over 1 million cars destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. It's sad to see so many new and near-new cars floating around in the floods and wreckage while I get to drive my old clunker for another year or two. If at all possible, please take all your cars with you when you evacuate Irma, you have plenty of warning. TIA :tyou:

I agree, I was shocked by the amount of cars ruined by flooding from Harvey. I saw in some driveways 2, 3 and 4 cars totaled. Did they not assume water would rise in those areas? Please, with all those vehicles, move all but one to high ground.

Hate this for you. I remember you said it was your first vacation in five years. Such lousy timing.

Hope you can reschedule and get refunds...

I hope the insurance companies investigate all these claims, but there's only so much they can do. I wonder how many of the flooded cars belonged to people who lived outside the flood area, but just happened to be "visiting" the area?

Another downside is that everyone's auto insurance premiums in that area will rise as a result.

For all those evacuating, it might be a good idea to find a Walmart or similar parking lot in a non-flood area to park those campers, extra cars, RV's, etc.

Our local weather experts are doing daily live briefings on FB for our area. It seems if Irma stays on the predicted path she will come into Florida and into south Georgia where we live. We are already making sure we have bottled water along with other necessary supplies and my husband has a generator in case our power goes out.

I hope this is not as bad as predicted and it will steer clear of everyone on the east coast.

IMO

So sorry, oceanblueeyes. You must be so nervous.

The one thing about hurricanes is they are often very unpredictable, and take different turns. I'm praying Irma does just that, and turns outward toward the ocean.

Many thoughts and prayers are with you and everyone else...

I can tell you the traffic out of the keys was horrendous yesterday/last night. Took me forever to get home.

No forecast scenarios exist for out to sea....it will hit land somewhere.

Noon GFS model shows 2 possible landings....South FL, then rides up the coast to Charleston.
The premise is that it's going to turn earlier than initially thought.

Noon Canadian model has the opposite...it's going to dip south, lose momentum from the islands, then turn up the western coast of Florida, making a landing in the tallahassee, FL area.

Will post EURO once available. The midnight version did show some western movement so we shall see what they think.

Regardless, Florida has impact.

Its all about the turn....

Zoom Zoom for you! Will include separately as it's not visibly unless zoomed into just the Keys. HTH :seeya:
