OH MY :gasp: the interstates are full of evacuees!

I'm :thinking: that lots of folks heard the Governor in Texas say the reason they didn't call for evacuation was it was too many to evacuate, and he didn't want foks stuck on the interstates, without gas, when the storm hit.

So Floridians are doing it on their own. The major interstates in Florida are really affected now, and it's up to Valdosta Georgia. I'll check gasbuddy.com, but I heard yesterday that Tifton Gorgia gas stations were out of gas (they have time to replenish, but eeeeks)

It looks like a lot of people on the Atlantic coast are evacuating.

Friends in Marco Island boarded up their home and are planning on leaving tomorrow.

My D in Orlando is staying put.

My sister just bought a condo on Hutchinson Island a month or so ago and is in the process of remodeling, she doesn't have any hurricane shutters or glass, she is desperate in contacing building management to see if they will put up some plywood, at least on their sliding glass doors.

Airline/Airport Cancellations:

American Airlines has announced that because of Hurricane Irma, it will stop operations at the airports in Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Miami and Fort Myers on Friday afternoon. Flights that were scheduled to arrive in Miami Friday from Europe and South America have also been canceled. The last departure from Miami’s airport will be Flight 2213 scheduled to leave 3:39 p.m. for Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas.

In Orlando, American Airlines will wind down operations Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and all flights will be canceled Sunday. The airline will continue to evaluate operations at other Florida airports, including Sarasota and Tampa, and will make adjustments as necessary.

Local airports are not designated as shelters in the event of emergencies such as hurricanes, so travelers need to make arrangements to stay elsewhere if they’re unable to fly out.

Resumption of service will be based on airport and roadway conditions and the airline’s ability to get its employees to work.

Cruise giant Carnival and Disney Cruise Line late Tuesday joined Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Line in cancelling upcoming sailings out of Florida as Hurricane Irma bears down on the state.

Carnival scrubbed Thursday's departure of the 2,974-passenger Carnival Liberty and Friday's departure of the 2,758-passenger Carnival Victory. The ships are based in Port Canaveral and Miami, respectively, and were both scheduled to sail to The Bahamas.

**EVACUATIONS**

- Zones A and B need to prepare to leave.

- If you have the ability to leave now, that is the best thing to do.

- Everyone from the South is trying to evacuate as well. Roads are going to be clogged.

- Don't wait until Friday. I75, I10, and I95N could be at 10 mph.

- If you are evacuating you need to go anywhere north and west of Jacksonville.

Although more about time of year generally more storms that start with I have been retired than any other.

Another tid bit the cones we see are ONLY the possiblity of the eye track - they have no
correlations as it relates to the size of the storm .

They are not indicating areas of impact in terms of bands surrounding each storms eye.

The cone is the same for any storm . The wind fields graphic display the outer bands impacts.

They started the cone stuff cause before that they used a line which lead to people thinking that was where it directly going which they never really know in an exact
fashion.

In Andrew a super dooper hurricane expert went back over data and it was much more powerful than generally beleived

Bryan Norcross used to be the chief meteorologist at one of our local news stations in Miami. During Andrew, he broadcasted for nearly 24 hours straight throughout the storm. Those from South Florida know how instrumental he was in keeping everyone informed. There is no one I trust more than him when it comes to hurricanes. He still has a house in Miami Beach, but he now works at The Weather Channel in Atlanta as a hurricane specialist.

He has been posting storm updates and advice on his Facebook page. For anyone who may be affected by this storm, you may want to keep an eye on his page.

Miami International Airport remained open Thursday morning, although American Airlines announced it will wind down flights to the airport (and others in south Florida) on Friday afternoon. Other airlines will likely take similar steps, the airport said.

Meanwhile, Orlando International Airport announced they are stopping commercial flights at 5 p.m. ET Saturday.

My "sister" (haaaa, she'd LOVE to hear someone say I'm as old as her mother!) is safely back in NJ, but she left her husband there in Casselberry with their son, who just graduated from college. He hasn't answered my message yet this morning, but the storm is still far away for the time being. He's there with my brother-in-law and his two roommates, so I guess with 4 big boys, they should be able to handle things ok. At least my sister got out of there. Thank you for asking!!!

Thank you for all the updates.

My husband had to travel to Valdosta, Georgia this morning for business. He called me to say the north bound lanes are bumper to bumper and he will have to travel that way in order to get home. He wanted me to know he may be getting in later than usual and not to worry. He said every gas station he has seen has long waiting lines.

All of the hotels, motels in our own area are already filled with no vacancies.

I talked with our daughter from Charleston and she and her family are heading to Georgia today.

Why in the heck would they go to Charleston? That makes no logical sense to me.
