Hurricane Laura - August 2020

  • #121
I’m from the Acadiana area of LA. But thankfully on the east side of the eye. The areas that are going to be hit get hit frequently by hurricanes and flooding. Those people are some tough ones and often refuse to evacuate even when mandatory. One of the best local news stations to provide coverage via fb is KATC TV 3. Unfortunately, I think it’s going to be a recovery mission. Cattle farmers have been moving their herds for the last couple of day. For a previous storm, an entire parish was without power for 21 days. Keep in mind our temperatures often reach 95+ and humidity 100%.

Thanks for checking in @Teche. I was wondering about you. Stay safe.

I just saw on The Weather Channel that anyone planning to ride out the hurricane/storm surge in their attic should be sure to have tools to break out of the attic to the roof. I’m sure @Tony1902 knows this, since the attic is their survival plan (with 14 cats and 2 dogs). It wouldn’t have occurred to me, so it’s a good thing I live in wildfire/earthquake country in Oregon.

100% this is correct, in hurricanes past other people have gotten trapped because they haven't been able to great through their roof

Landfall near Cameron LA declared by The Weather Channel. 150 mph/h0ur winds if I heard correctly.

TWC’s Jim Cantori is still outside at Lake Charles. Getting a break at the moment.

Intrepid!

Stephanie Abrams too. She looks like a drowned rat! She is broadcasting from a cement structure now.

its made landfall now at least it didn't get that last bump in intensification to cat 5

although once you get to high end cat 4, there really isn't a lot of difference between a high end cat 4 and a cat 5

Hurricane Laura makes landfall as a powerful Category 4 storm - CNN

Laura made landfall near Cameron, Louisiana, as a Category 4 storm with winds of 150 mph, putting it in a tie with a hurricane from more than 160 years ago for the strongest storm to hit Louisiana.
