I see all the good hearts coming out tonight. I grieved for the last several days but I see the good in America. Despite all the objectionable things I see the good coming out. I am hopeful....I am hopeful.

I'm also glad to see everyday normal people helping out! No matter how bad this country is messed up at times, we've ALL got big hearts.

There are quite a few of generous celeb's out there, I'm sure they'll donate, whether we hear about it or not. Of course, there will be the stingy ones too that won't lift a finger to help but I think we have other things to worry about. I'm no celeb but I plan on donating everything I possibly can.

You are right on about NOT hearing of "who's who" giving to the Hurricaine Relief Fund made public, doesn't mean they haven't donated.

Not all celebs need to be in the spotlight like some who go to a foreign countries just for the publicity.

As far a Jerry Lewis, he's NOT donating his money, but rather from the MS Fund.

I personally donated online to American Red Cross yesterday and today my 86 year old mom asked me to donate what she could afford also.

John Mellencamp will be performing in one of the concerts. He always does. He is from a small town near here and always shows up around here to help with everything. That's why I always liked "I was born in a small town".

Last night five mom's (including myself) and their children held a local lemonade stand in our neighborhood, to raise money for the hurricane victims. It was an excellent way to help out and to teach our children about charity and reaching out to people in need.

Here is the really good news ... We raised $521.47 in three hours.

We are donating every penny to the American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund. I am still amazed that we raised so much selling lemonade from 4:00-7:00 last night. We even had people drive by and tell us they didn't have money, but they would come back. I was amazed at how many actually came back to make a donation!!!

(I have to say, we thought we were going to get most of our traffic from people coming home from work. Instead, most people were rushing to the gas stations to get gas. The gas shortage here in Charlotte actually helped our cause a bit.)

Celine Dion pledged a million. The CEO of Harrah's matched that. Harrah's is also going to pay it's employees for the next three months (I assume that means even though the casino won't be open, workers will be paid).

Okay, I am very glad that someone, anyone has been gotten out of that hell hole. What I wondered yesterday when I saw the pic of Fats being taken out is how can his helicopter get into the area to get him out but why didn't some of these stars send in their own helicopters to drop water to the people who have died of dehydration?? I know money and donations are needed for the long term and to help replenish funds for Red Cross but immediate critical help was and is still needed. Canada offered to send in water but was refused. The New Orleans city disaster official, the mayor, police, etc have issued desperate cries for help. No one had even seen a FEMA official. The mayor was having to go so far as to issue a SOS to the media !If they were afraid of being shot, then drop the water bottles from the sky, like one lady said.

Bill Gates already gives to many major charities and endeavors; hopefully he can channel one of those into this. He is a great giver.

That's great about Celine. I'm sure many celebreties do not publicize what they give.

I'd say if they already have a show together for Friday that that was FAST. These guys are great. Everyone loved New Orleans, and so many will give. I would only bash the ones who dont give (Britney, don't you want donate some of your pretty baby clothes, aw, you can get new ones....).

Everyone is still just kind of thinking what to do. The real tragedy has been our UN-rapid response. There are lives to save, messes to clean up, people hungry. The money won't help the damage already done but it will help rebuild eventually and feed the refugees.

They just said on Fox that Jerry Lewis will donate $1mill from the telethon this weekend. That is very nice. I was thinking about his telethon this weekend. Wondering if that with the timing, that his MDA donations won't be down a lot because of the hurricane coverage, etc. Just another victim, so to speak.

I mean these people are not with the times; don't they know the poverty level is up for 5 years in a row, the middle class is stagnant?

I'm sick of it too, and not just among movie stars either. Didn't we learn anything from 9-11 about what's really important? Guess not.

At least Angelina is adopting; but I'm sick of her also - it's overkill. Well let's get up on a table and Dance - Angelina hugged her baby and she SUCH a good mother. Blah. Well guess, what, I took good care of my babies too and no body gave me a designer dress or put me on the cover of anything. :furious: :furious:

I'm no celeb worshiper, but I've had dealings with celebs in the charity arena, and many are generous. Some aren't, but I guess you can say that of any group.

Maybe they should all give up their yachts and huge houses. I'm a pretty charitable person, but I could drop cable TV and use generic products (no more Clinique for me), but I don't. I give what I can, but I live in a way that's comfortable for me. Most of us could do more, but many of us just do what we can. Some of us do nothing. And like celebs I doubt everyone knows about every charitable act we make.
