[h=1]Victim’s Relative Defends Former Bachelor Chris Soules After Deadly Car Crash: ‘It Was a Freak Accident’[/h]
POSTED ON
APRIL 25, 2017 AT 8:26PM EDT
"A man related to the victim’s family is coming to Chris Soules‘ defense saying the deadly car crash the former Bachelor was allegedly responsible for early Tuesday morning was nothing more than a “huge mistake.”
“I believe it was a very tragic, sad accident that took the life of a guy that was just coming home from work,” Robert Roepke, whose daughter is married to the victim’s son, exclusively tells PEOPLE. “This is corn planting time, the best time of the year for a farmer. Kenny was working on one of the farms just a little north of Aurora and I think he was just coming home. For Chris, what happened was just a freak accident.”
“Chris comes from a good family and is still well-vested in farming. He’s got a great life ahead of him,” he adds. “This is a serious bump in the road and I don’t know about his [alleged] alcohol issue but I just know that this was a huge mistake. It’s something he’s going to have to deal with for the rest of his life. It just ended very tragically.”

How did LE know he was the one who hit the tractor? I think I'm confused. Did he leave his truck at the scene or did he drive off? If the truck was found with him at his house, then that would imply he drove off. What evidence led them to go find him specifically and that fast?

From what I have gathered from my reading today. It appears that CS got his truck un-stuck from the ditch and proceeded to go home.

It has also been stated that there were witnesses who called 911 and verified that CS was the driver.

I am going to go ahead and guess that he has a lawyer on speed dial, with the amount of publicity he has had over the years. I am also going to guess that the attorney advised him to deny the breath test and force a warrant, as to buy time (decreasing alcohol content) and also to make it harder to prosecute.

I am a fairly compliant rule follower. My brother (an attorney) and my the guy I used to date (a police officer) always used to tell me that if anything ever happened and I even had a sip of alcohol, I should refuse the breath test and instead force the blood test, which takes much longer to get to and draw. I never thought I would be able to do that, because it seems so----- non-compliant and shady! And they both used to say it isn't non-compliance, it is a right. Police dude used to also tell me that lots of people in a situation where they left a scene would say that they had not been drinking, but took a shot when they got home because they were nervous. He said any time that you place more time and variables in between the moment and scene of the accident to the moment and scene of blood alcohol testing makes it harder to prove.

All that to say---- his actions after he left probably were guided by a professional. My heart breaks for the farmer who was killed. I can never imagine not trying to help a person that I harmed, even if it were to bring more consequences to myself.

Thanks for the info. If you have a chance to ask your brother, how does the possibility of open containers or spilled alcohol on the floor mats/carpet fit in, even in an instance of distancing oneself for several hours.

The only logical reason I can think of for his leaving the scene would be to get help if they had no cell phone reception at the accident site. That doesn't seem plausible though considering there were at least two witnesses.

SMH.

IMO even if trying to get help, one should first try to render aid to the injured and try to flag down a passing vehicle. Obviously there were passing vehicles because there were witnesses. RIP Mr Mosher. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Oh wow! At 2:45 of the video link. This says he took his vehicle & left the scene. Then went to someones house where LE found the vehicle & wouldn't come out for hours while a search warrant was obtained SMH:notgood:

I'm guess he was hoping to get the alcohol out of his system. :notgood: MOO

You would think that if he could think that clearly, he would have also thought to get the containers out of his truck. So cowardly.

Just can not imagine leaving an injured person like that---No matter how worried you were about your own arrest. The poor victim's family to not only lose their loved one,but to realize his neighbor who hit his tractor did not even try to render aid or give him comfort.

I agree. Only thinking of himself IMO

How can the daughter in laws father say it was a mistake since the guy fled and hid somewhere else while the father in law was dying?

So agree. Definitely a accident. But his after proceedings were more intended and not mistakened. Jmo for now.

"Chris by far is one of my closest friends from the Bachelor family. We've got similar backgrounds growing up in small towns and everything so we have a lot in common and relate a lot on our backgrounds," Luke shared with E! News exclusively. "I've gotten to know Chris and he's just a great guy that loves people who is very sincere and genuine. [h=1]‘The Bachelor’ Star Chris Soules Is Not the Nice Guy ABC Sold Us[/h]
...............

Network producers packaged the 32-year-old soybean and corn farmer as the gee-golly small town romantic hero who could drive a tractor before he could drive a car and was “known for his million-dollar smile and chivalrous ways.” They promised Season 19 would be a sort of family values tour, and they delivered, making the women jump though wholesome hoops like camping outings and tractor races to compete for Soules’s Farmville version of true love: “You’re planting a seed and then that relationship begins to grow,” he told one of the ladytestants.

In hindsight, maybe we shouldn’t be so surprised. A publicly available criminal record betrayed a small town troublemaker behind his crooked smile—and early on revealed that Soules, the only son and future heir to a multi-million dollar farming operation, was more Footloose’s Chuck Cranston than Ren McCormack.

TMZ has the 911 audio. Chris called 911 and does not sound drunk. Will be interesting to hear the facts. For all we know the tractor may have not had proper signage and he didn't see it until the last minute. People are so quick to judge.

Speaking as if I was sitting on a jury stand.

Him being alone at home for such an extended time will not allow DUI charges. He had enough time to get drunk at home, it will be hard to prove he was driving while drunk. Even with empty beer cans in the truck. Those could have been picked up off the side of the road, or thrown in by friends.

Even if a witness was to say he got out of the truck and appeared drunk, the appearance "could" be due to trauma from the accident. Being shook up and in shock.

Although I think it stinks like poo, leaving the scene was the smartest thing he could have done for his own sake. Now he can claim just about any scenario to his state of being at the time of the crash.

But I would suggest , just a hunch, and my opinion,he is well known in the area for such shenanigans.

I don't know if he was drinking or not, but I do want to note that people who have been drinking don't always "sound drunk." I think you can be impaired enough that you shouldn't be driving, but easily able to speak coherently.

I agree. This is not is not a rationale or humane response.

this is so strange. he even did CPR on the guy

It appeared that he stayed around until EMT's arrived however left before police arrived. This will be interesting on how the case proceeds as he didn't leave the scene in the true sense but he did evade police, including locking himself in his house until they got a search warrant IIRC.

If any tests were don't which I'm not sure they were he might show clean?
