"Dear Alex, you weren't there for me when Traci was being so mean to me," the now 10-year-old boy wrote in a victim impact statement read aloud during Shadlow's sentencing, though the boy was not present in the courtroom. "This makes me feel sad, upset and alone. I want you to know that I still love you because you didn't hurt me as much as Traci did. But I still feel betrayed by you."
The boy also wrote that he's now surrounded by another family and is doing "way better."
"I hope you learn that this is what you get for not protecting your own son," the last line of his statement read.

Kester ordered Shadlow receive the maximum possible sentence: 30 years, despite his attorney's attempts to lessen his punishment.
Tyler received the same sentence from Kester an hour earlier, court documents show.
