"DUBUQUE, Iowa (KWWL) – Tuesday morning’s court session began with opening statements from the state and defense....
According to police records, Mullis’s IPad had a concerning search history, which included search terms for “organs in the body” and “killing unfaithful women.”
Defense attorney, Jake Firehelm, argues that Mullis had been working to reconcile with his wife....
However, the most tension in the courtroom occurred when the couple’s son testified. He was the first person to discover his mother’s body....
Their son claims that his father did briefly leave the hog barn they had been working in after Amy Mullis went into the shed to grab a pet carrier....
Testimony was given by other members of Amy Mullis’s family. They confirmed that the couple’s marriage had been rocky for quite some time.
Two deputies from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office testified before the court. They were the deputies who had arrived on scene after Mullis began to drive his wife to the emergency room....
The medical examiner also testified and described autopsy photos taken of Amy Mullis. He described that Amy Mullis had suffered from six fatal puncture wounds, despite the corn rake only having four prongs.
The medical examiner also described a jaw injury discovered on Amy Mullis. He said that this injured was not consistent with falling into gravel; rather that it was the result of blunt force trauma...."
