Decorah Police seeking special needs student who left school alone, search planned Article says he may not answer to verbal interaction and was seen at the Sugar Bowl ice cream shop on Water Street in downtown Decorah but went missing from the high school between 9:00-10:00 a.m. There will be an official search with volunteers that began at 5:00 p.m. today. Here is a map of a route from the school to the ice cream shop (7 minute walk): Google Maps
IMO-it appears that this young man has Down Syndrome. It is very concerning that there is a major river that goes through the town and lots of parks and wood areas.
Log In or Sign Up to View The police department is doing a good job of updating. Prayers this young man is found safe.

I wonder what his frame of mind was when he left school?

I know that schools in Iowa shut early in the end of May because so many students are farmers and go back early but just wondering if this was the first day back??

Also wondering if this is a new school for him whether due to new grade or transfer?

There is a college on Decorah and it's a bigger town than other towns nearby, but don't picture Decorah like many Iowa towns, it is surrounded by hills, so I am not picturing him lost in cornstalks, he would have to walk miles if I remember right.

I wish they would tell us more about the ATM sighting. Was he getting $$? Panhandling? Passing by the machine on film by happenstance?

Also wondering if he takes a bus or lives close by and knows the immediate area? I am sure there will be many in the community not able to sleep.
