Man convicted of kidnapping and murdering a 10-year-old girl receives additional sentence​

The man convicted of kidnapping and murdering 10-year-old Breasia Terrell in 2020 is facing an additional 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine in January.

Henry Dinkins received the sentence on Wednesday. Despite the new 10-year sentence, Dinkins won't see any extra time behind bars as he's already serving two consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole for the kidnapping and murder of Terrell.

Iowa Court of Appeals upholds murder, kidnapping convictions for Henry Dinkins​

Henry Dinkins's convictions for first-degree murder and kidnapping have been upheld by the Iowa Court of Appeals. The court found sufficient evidence to support the claims that Dinkins abducted and killed ten-year-old Breasia Terrell in July 2020.

Dinkins had picked up his son and Terrell from their home, and later that night, both Dinkins and Terrell were missing from his apartment. Surveillance footage and witness testimony placed Dinkins at the scene of the crime near a pond in DeWitt, where Terrell's remains were eventually found.

The court noted that Dinkins's behavior and actions that morning, including purchasing bleach from a Walmart and his inconsistent statements to authorities, indicated attempts to cover up the crime. Despite Dinkins' appeal arguing insufficient evidence, the court found substantial evidence, including soil samples from his car matching the crime scene, to affirm the convictions.
