Here is where his car was located. The car was in the parking lot of the Hydraulics Lab. Did have a reason to be there? Did he drown himself? Accident or suicide? The news states that in 1964 his vehicle was parked in the same lot and was vandalized. (Or someone with the same name. ) It's page 3 http://dailyiowan.lib.uiowa.edu/DI/1965/di1965-01-31.pdf

There is another Charles Elmquist from Des Moines - I wonder if this is him? Or the missing Charles R. Elmquist? Charles R. was a contractor by trade, so he may have had reason to be there, but Charles R is from Iowa City. It may just be a coincidence.

I mean, Iowa City is where the University of Iowa is, so it's a magnet for young people from all over the state, and it's a place where there are good hospitals and services generally, as state university cities often are everywhere. Above the hydraulics building in the picture above you can see the Veteran's Administration facilities. I don't know if he was a vet or not, but if he were it might explain why his van would have been parked in the same place twice.

I believe from my research that Charles R. Elmquist was born in NJ 1946 to Charles E. Elmquist and Marion Elmquist. The senior Charles owned Casket Company in Iowa. I could not find any articles related to son Charles disappearance. From other articles online it looks like Charles R. may have been in real estate or bought and owned several properties. He married a Rebecca Johnson but I do not know when. After Charles disappearance in May 1982 his mother petitioned the court to be conservator over his property. In August on 1982 his wife petitioned the court for a dissolution of marriage. Charles mother passed away in 1989 and his father in 1995. His fathers obituary says Charles and a sister also named Marion survive him.
