Body was found submerged in the Des Moines River, West Bank, in Des Moines on 10/25/2005. No apparent injuries or trauma.

Clothing
Subject was wearing size 36 tan shorts under size 38 blue trousers, no shirt and a yellow and white Relic brand watch.

Possessions
Less than $10 in cash and coins.

Cause of Death
Drowning.

Identified in 2014. Rest in peace, Robert Bryan McMahon.

Mr. McMahon, who went by his middle name, had been homeless and struggling with alcohol addiction when he died. His death is not considered suspicious. He had previously been a restaurateur who studied in France and Atlanta.

In 2010, a woman saw a news feature on the man found drowned in the Des Moines River and thought he might be her ex-husband Bryan McMahon. However, investigators told her the man was Hispanic. In 2014, she found the case again online and was sure it was him. This time the medical examiner positively IDed the John Doe as Robert Bryan McMahon.

It appears that Bryan has finally been taken off of the Iowa Dept. of Public Safety website. 11 years too late though.
