okay.. so grandma watched them that day.. wouldn't the parents know what clothing they had on when they dropped them off there?
The story as we have heard it does not make much sense. For example :
1. Why would someone stage the bikes and purse by the lake ? They would have had a great deal of trouble parking a vehicle. And they would have been taking a huge risk to carry the bikes to that spot,or try to throw them there. Why take that risk at all , it's Iowa, aren't there a lot of secluded lanes, and fields where a perp could have left the bikes ? It did no good to leave the bikes by the lake. LE has dragged the lake. The girls are not there...
2. If it is true that the girls were last seen behing the clothing store at 12 :15, how could a perp have had time to lure them into a house, subdue them, put their bikes, and a purse, into a vehicle, drive out to the lake, stage the bikes and purse there... and all before 12 :27 p.m. when the biker saw the girls' bikes ?
3. If they were lured into a vehicle in the downtown area, why would a perp take the time to also load their bikes into his vehicle ? When he only would have had a small window of oportunity to take off with the girls ?
I think there is a whole lot LE is not saying. And they have still not called this a non-family abduction ?

I wished someone had asked the sheriff about the tracking or cadaver dogs that were supposedly out there.

also: did they regularly stay at grandma's house? (re: bikes)... did they bring their bikes with them that morning?
The more I think about, the less I believe they went swimming. Everyone is right- there would be shoes and stuff and if they happened to sneak out their bathing suits then their clothes would be there.
I think they were offered something by someone they are familiar with and left with them. It's too hard to abduct two girls at once, and why would you if you didn't know them? You'd want an easier target.
Ugh, this makes me sick.

Did the presser speak to the alleged tip about the bikes that were seen at 12:27?
ETA: Thanks to those of you relaying info from the presser.)
They may live close by the grandma's home.
IMO
Grandma was watching them at Elizabeth's house which is right by Lederman's Big & Tall store. Gram last saw them at 12:15 when they headed out to ride bikes.
I am not sure I even believe they rode their bikes there. The person who kidnapped them could have ditched the bikes there to throw off LE that the girls perhaps went swimming in the lake.
IMO
Agree, I am also leaning toward someone they knew.

Something that jumped out to me was the sheriff saying "supposedly where they were last seen"
Le said all the area RSO's were cleared.
