okay.. so grandma watched them that day.. wouldn't the parents know what clothing they had on when they dropped them off there?

The story as we have heard it does not make much sense. For example :

1. Why would someone stage the bikes and purse by the lake ? They would have had a great deal of trouble parking a vehicle. And they would have been taking a huge risk to carry the bikes to that spot,or try to throw them there. Why take that risk at all , it's Iowa, aren't there a lot of secluded lanes, and fields where a perp could have left the bikes ? It did no good to leave the bikes by the lake. LE has dragged the lake. The girls are not there...

2. If it is true that the girls were last seen behing the clothing store at 12 :15, how could a perp have had time to lure them into a house, subdue them, put their bikes, and a purse, into a vehicle, drive out to the lake, stage the bikes and purse there... and all before 12 :27 p.m. when the biker saw the girls' bikes ?

3. If they were lured into a vehicle in the downtown area, why would a perp take the time to also load their bikes into his vehicle ? When he only would have had a small window of oportunity to take off with the girls ?

I think there is a whole lot LE is not saying. And they have still not called this a non-family abduction ?

JMO

I am taking the man's statement of seeing the bikes as 12:27pm as credible as he has a subsequent phone call to more or less confirm the time. However, since it doesn't fit in with the grandmother seeing the girls at 12:15pm, I tend to believe she could be in error. Logically there isn't enough time for most scenarios to place the bikes where they were found. In addition, aside from the family statements that the girls regularly went riding in the morning, exactly what time did they go out for what was termed a short ride?

I wished someone had asked the sheriff about the tracking or cadaver dogs that were supposedly out there.

They did and he was very vague.

also: did they regularly stay at grandma's house? (re: bikes)... did they bring their bikes with them that morning?

I am not sure I even believe they rode their bikes there. The person who kidnapped them could have ditched the bikes there to throw off LE that the girls perhaps went swimming in the lake.

Grandma was watching them at Elizabeth's house which is right by Lederman's Big & Tall store. Gram last saw them at 12:15 when they headed out to ride bikes.

The more I think about, the less I believe they went swimming. Everyone is right- there would be shoes and stuff and if they happened to sneak out their bathing suits then their clothes would be there.

I think they were offered something by someone they are familiar with and left with them. It's too hard to abduct two girls at once, and why would you if you didn't know them? You'd want an easier target.

Ugh, this makes me sick.

Agree, I am also leaning toward someone they knew.

They may live close by the grandma's home.

Did the presser speak to the alleged tip about the bikes that were seen at 12:27?

ETA: Thanks to those of you relaying info from the presser. :o)

G'ma lives in Waterloo - so does Lyric. Elizabeth lives in this town Evansdale and they were being watched by their g'ma at Elizabeth's house.

thank you Jules :rocker:

I am still wondering why grandma doesn't know what they had on...

I would like to hear more about the morning/what happened at the house before they left on the bike ride.

Grandma lives in Waterloo across the river. The house she was at is the Collins home, behind the Lederman store. And I believe Lyric and her mother and sib also live over in Waterloo.
I still wonder if she was watching all 6 of the sibs/cousins that day.

I hope LE is looking very closely at the RSO's in the Collins' neighborhood and any other neighbors who might have been home at that time. I think the girls may have been taken from their own (Collins') neighborhood.

I dont know what to think. I do believe a predator has struck again. Imo, it is not hard to contain two young girls. All he had to do is grab one and threaten to harm them if the other girl didnt did as he said. Two little girls would have been so scared imo they would do as he told them to do and it wouldnt take long to bind them up and put duct tape over their mouths.

It may have been someone they knew but perhaps not. Who would have ever thought that Joesph Duncan would be cruising the rural back roads in Idaho looking for children to kidnap when he saw Shasta and Dylan?

imo

Something that jumped out to me was the sheriff saying "supposedly where they were last seen"

  • #797
Le said all the area RSO's were cleared.

yeah, he said that about the lake- but I thought only the bikes were there, not any report of the girls seen there???

Le said all the area RSO's were cleared.

What about the RSO's friends who might have been visiting or any other non-RSO's who might have been visiting friends or relatives that day or even for the whole summer?

I am still not 100% that the girls are not in the lake... I am glad they are draining it...

also.. in the presser did they mention anything about tracking dogs? Were they able to pick up scent at the bike area? They have to have some idea of which way they went via scent dogs I would think
