Thanks! So there is likely an access road to that area (note my other comment upthread). When I was doing Street view going east, the area that I marked in red is the area, with the starting point closest to the lake, where it looked to me that the fence closest to the water ended, where it gets more wooded past the lake. I wonder how far to the west the fence along the lake goes... I see what you're saying about it veering from the path toward the lake, but I wonder how far along the lake in that direction the fence goes.

ETA ~ Nevermind, I see how far it goes west. I have added a yellow line along on my map where it appears that the fence is. Thanks for the reference!

YW! Fantastic map by the way. I also wonder if that lane area that you've marked as a possible access road is actually a driveway. There appears to be a building there on the right side?

Thanks! I saw the building. It looks like it might be a pump station or small outbuilding. I wonder if a local could tell us what it is and how the vehicles are getting down to the water, if it is via the trail or if it is via that driveway/possible access road.

Similar thing happened when I was a kid, and that's exactly what this case feels like. I think they were lured away by someone else on a bike. I can't imagine what happened from there.

I've seen no mention of tracking dogs?

I have thought of this scenario as well. Regarding the purse being throw over the fence towards the highway, a young person would be more likely to do this than an older perp, IMO. If this is an abduction by a young person, then the girls will probably be found rather quickly, because younger perps (ages 12 to 18) are more likely to be disorganized or impulsive. However, the more days that go by without finding these girls, it will be more and more likely that they were abducted by an adult rather than a young person.

The news tonight is reporting that it is still a missing persons case and they have no evidence that leads them to the girls bring abducted.

I have no idea I guess, as to what it takes to lead them to believe they were abducted. Two kids who know the area, Ina mostly residential area, separated from their bikes, and to hone and purse over the fence. It all screams to me that they were taken. I'd sure like to be wrong though and see them wander out of the woods.

Other information in this article that I haven't read before today:

1. Says the family started searching for the girls at 2:00 pm and called police about an hour later.

2. Heather Collins reports that the girls usually never leave the block.

3. Special K-9 search and rescue units were used on Saturday.

4. Different description of clothing the girls were wearing:

Elizabeth: White shirt, shorts, black tennis shoes or high tops

Lyric: Green shirt, black flip-flops that when together form a Sesame Street character

BBM: The girls usually never leave the block.

Okay, THAT is very telling, IMO.

Who were they meeting up with?

Has an appeal been made for the girls to come home? What about if they are scared now with all the attention? Has anyone stated they will not be in trouble if they come home?

Why did the girls leave the block that day?

Looking on Google Streetview at how close the Highway runs to where their bikes were found, combined with the information that the girls never usually left the block, makes me think this was a prearranged meeting with someone met on the Internet.

Hopefully, LE is scouring their Facebook and Social Media Accounts currently.

Does anyone know the water temperatures ?

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_long_before_a_body_floats_after_drowning

If they went in the water. The temperatures play a part in resurfacing time..

They could be in the water, children will surface sooner than adults but not as soon as they would in salt water. One could have had trouble in the water and the other went in to save her.
However that does not explain where the bag was found, or the fact that they seem to have travelled quite a distance. I know when I was their age I spent lots of time with a friend exploring on a bike. But we would not have gone swimming in an unfamiliar place or riding our bikes near a highway.
A few posters have questioned if SAR dogs were used-some SAR dogs can detect bodies in water from a boat. Does anyone know?

ETA ok just read 'special' dogs were used. Don't know if they were tracking dogs or used on the lake though, or both types.

Only 40% of the Lake has been dragged so far, new info here:

Though swimming is prohibited at the lake, she said her daughter might have tried to anyway.

Cook-Morrisey said they swim at another nearby lake regularly and she is a good swimmer.

Elizabeth Collins’ mom Heather said it’s rare for her daughter I venture too far from home, but she may have been persuaded by her older cousin.
“We’ve talked about that before,” Collins said. “We’ve told them they’re too young to go far.”

Officials have drug about 40 percent of the lake in their search for the girls. It could take into Monday to complete the search.

12 today is a lot older than when I was 12...
She is 10 will be 11 in the fall. Someone in an earlier post, put the girls DOB and it may be on the poster. The oldest one is 10 the younger one is 8 but will be 9 at the end of this month.

640 Arbutus Ave... Google says it's a lift station.

I do think the vehicles were on the trail. And it appears from the picture that there is a gate in the fence to get access to the water?

I have another question. Does anyone know or remember how quickly they found the girl's bikes on the trail after the police were called at 3pm? From all accounts you wouldn't think they'd be looking that far away at first so I just wondered how they found the bikes.

And is it possible that they met up with another older person or persons on the trail or somewhere else closer to home who convinced them to go down and check out the lake? Is there any indication that the girls have ever travelled down that trail before?

So an older cousin has asked the girls, or one of the girls, to go swimming in that lake?

Oh thank you - I still have 12 stuck in my head for some reason. I would be surprised if a 10 year old was meeting anyone from a social media site.
Perhaps someone unrelated found the bag and tossed it?

No mom was referring to- Lyric (age 10) may have persuaded Elizabeth (age 8) to go swimming.

640 Arbutus Ave... Google says it's a lift station.

So that's a building and driveway area that pretty much anyone could hang out at then? I don't imagine there are any people working at a lift station. It's just a small building with the pumping equipment in it correct?

Lyric is the same age as my knotling. I cannot imagine my DD running off of her own volition. These are little girls, not teens.

I may be wrong, but I just don't feel a runaway vibe.

I hope these girls are found safe and soon!!

Thank you! I was trying to say this, but you said it much better!
