That's true, it would appear to be more risky to abduct them in the middle of town than while they were riding their bikes out by the lake. Could they have gotten into a vehicle with someone they knew? However, it also appears where the bikes were found to be a difficult place for the actual abduction based upon what our local poster has reported regarding the area. This case is confusing, and largely based on the time frame between when the girls were last seen, the bikes spotted and the girls reported missing.

That's what bothers me-the last time they were allegedly seen. When you see two kids on a bike how closely do you really look at them? Seems that nobody is even 100% sure what they were wearing.
Remember the case where the new mom was shot to death and her newborn stolen? Remember how some witnesses said there were two people, or a white woman with a black man, but it was a black woman acting alone?

Sorry if this has been asked. (Hard to catch up on 25 pages of posts.) Was it hot that day? I fear they thought to go for a swim.

Praying the girls are okay and found...now.

Wunderground reports the high in Evansdale as being 83 on Friday, July 13.

When did the grandmother last see them?

The Demoines Register .com July 15 9:34 am quote from Misty Cook Morrissey ....
“Sometimes when you think about it, you wonder if they’re dead somewhere but you try to push those thoughts out of your mind,” she said.

Does anyone find that a mother of a missing child saying this is odd? My daughter told me of of the quote . I had to search its not any where else! Sorry Im having trouble posting the link!http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/...ies-hold-out-hope-for-two-missing-iowa-girls/

She also said they were abducted... right off the bat. She just knew it. I will see if I can find the article.

I believe it is just a driveway. It would be a tight squeeze if you were trying to get a vehicle through the space where their bikes were found but you could I'm sure. I'll work on getting some time to go out to the area and take some photographs as I'm sure they will be helpful.

Someone up thread indicated that it is a driveway for lift station or pump station for the lake. I corrected it on my map.

Law enforcement officers are stopping motorists at a number of intersections in the city as an apparent part of the effort to locate two missing girls.

Lyric Cook, 10 and Elizabeth Collins, 8, disappeared sometime Friday after riding their bikes to a trail around Meyers Lake. Hundreds of searchers over the weekend did not turn up any usable evidence for authorities.

The stopping of vehicles began sometime around 12:30. Officers are passing out fliers about the missing girls. But they are also questioning some drivers and even looking in a few trunks.

One officer involved in the effort would not explain the searching of some vehicles, especially trucks

I am SOOOOOO GLAD they are doing this (I had just mentioned it upstream)

it seems they started this canvas around the time they went missing which is good.

How soon was the FBI there? Don't they usually do a level one canvas of the neighborhood right away? Did they bring dogs I wonder?

I have not seen nor heard anyone say that they saw the girls on their bikes riding anywhere between Lederman's and the lake. I think that's a little odd. It seems like someone would have been outside and noticed. It seems to have been a nice day as far as the temperature goes. Maybe no one paid attention since two girls riding bikes were nothing out of the ordinary. Still, it just seems odd to me. Kids ride bikes in my neighborhood all the time and I notice them.

Exactly. The girls were allegedly last seen around 12:15pm, the tipster places the bikes where they were found approximately 15 minutes later, however, LE wasn't contacted until around 3:00pm. My main question with this timeline is how did the girls and their bikes get to the location the bikes were found in 15 minutes with no one seeing anything happening? Or was it the girls who are missing who were seen at 12:15pm?

thanks, I was curious if someone could park there and from there take a shortcut to where the bikes were found. I've since read that there is a fence on both sides of the bike trail, so that would make it difficult to use as a cut through.

If the bikes were found lying on the ground, they could be tossed over I suppose. If they were found standing up with kick stand down, then they were walked or ridden to the spot.

My other big question is did the girls leave the house with anything to drink with them? With it being so hot this summer, I can't imagine they would have left without either having something to drink or planning to stop and get something to drink, if they planned to ride very far at all. If they had loaded up water bottles, etc, that may show they intended to go for a longer ride. I just fear that someone offered them something cold to drink as a way to lure them in.

This is a VERY good point. I am now thinking of the uber-creepy ice cream man who goes down my street in his van.

The girls’ grandmother, Wylma Cook, told the CNN affiliate she was the last person to see them.
“They asked me to go for a short bike ride, and I said go ahead for a short bike ride. They never came back,” she said.

Authorities began dragging Meyers Lake over the weekend for a sign of the girls.
The more time that goes by, the harder it gets for Wylma Cook to remain positive, she said.
“Time is what bothers me,” Cook said. “Too long, something’s not right.”
Agents from the FBI and the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation joined the search on Saturday, authorities said.

I'm still reading everything, but wondering if someone didn't get in their way on the path as they were riding, grab the purse with the phone and toss it over the fence towards the highway. Then the child ran to get it and was grabbed by someone and tossed into a waiting car. Her screams were heard by the other one, who went running toward her, only to be grabbed as well....

From what I've read the purse and phone were found over the fence near the lake, not the highway side. Of course, this could have been misreported in the article I read.

Someone up thread asked about the Dad that saw the bikes at 12:27 - it is not the missing girls' dad. A person posted on fb that her own Dad is the one who saw the bikes and then called it in after he heard the girls were missing.

I believe the g'ma is the one who last saw the girls at 12:15 on their street by the Big & Tall store.

I was and am still thinking the same thing, that someone could park there and bring the girls through the woods back to the parked car. If the bikes were found closer to the end of the fencing that is between the trail and the lake (see my map for where), then I think that it is a quite plausible scenario. It is an area not visible from the highway nor from Arbutus Avenue. I hope that they checked for tire imprints on the driveway.
