Something just occurred to me. If someone met the girls "in the trap," told them to leave their bikes, and follow him/her out -- I'm sure the girls knew right away that this was a dangerous situation (Given Aunt Tammy's Stranger Danger lesson). This would apply whether it were someone who was known (such as JW), or a stranger. So maybe Elizabeth was quick thinking enough to toss her OWN purse over the fence, as they were marched out.

She might have thought it would be a sign that they did not go willingly. If her mom knows her purse is important to her, and she would never leave it, maybe she thought leaving it would be a clue that they were abducted.

If that is the case, it was a bad decision, because she tossed the phone that could dial 911. And that means that nobody's finger prints are on it but her own.

I don't know -- just grasping at straws at this point. Hoping that she tried to leave us a clue.

Tammy and Misty took their daughters swimming at a public pool nearly every day since Misty's release on May 30. I forget the name of the pool, but it has been mentioned in interviews.

I believe they mentioned swimming at the Byrnes Pool as well as at George Wyth State Park beach. My family and I frequent the beach, and my wife has taken the kids to Byrnes.

It's been hot. There are a lot of great pools in the area, and they are popular.

If she was being carried over the shoulder of her abductor she could have thrown it behind to leave as a clue. Was Elizabeth aware that the phone could call 911?

Please remember the following when discussing the case:
Websleuths is a moderated forum. We strive to discuss cases in a friendly environment.

Things to know before you post:
Leave the snark -- and the rumors --at the door.
Treat other posters with respect.
Do not sleuth individuals who have not been mentioned in MSM either as persons of interest or as suspects by LE.
Choose the links you post wisely; don't link to sites which feature bizarre speculation, etc.
If you have questions or concerns about a post, alert on that post and contact a mod. Do not quote and/or reply to the post. If you do, and the post is subsequently deleted, your post is subject to deletion, as well.
If you have other questions in general, scroll to the bottom of the page and find "View forum leaders." There you will find a list of moderators available if you need to PM one.
Remember: you can disagree with a post and address it, but you do NOT attack the poster.

No one has been named by LE or MSM as a POI or suspect in this case.
The parents, whatever you may personally think about them, have not been named.
That means that they, and their families, their neighbors, and their friends and "associates," are not to be sleuthed or badmouthed.

Please continue here...

bumping this up: everyone please re-read the part about the family. No one has been named and there is to be no speculation about the family at this time

I know.... clues! We need clues! I have thought about the possibility of the abductor using a taser gun. Horrible I know! There wouldn't be a lot you could do to fight being tased except maybe outrun the bad guy if you saw the taser in time.

Do any of the locals know the nature of the road construction going on there that day? Also, while bill warner discusses all the petite blond women missing in areas of road paving projects, he notes that 'all the dates when the six petite women go missing have a 3 in it, like the 3rd, the 13th, the 23rd and the 30th, also the 3rd and the 13th are repeated twice, very odd?'

The girls were abducted on the 13th.

They are rebuilding Hwy 20, which is a 4-lane divided highway, from between the River Forest Rd exit and the Elk Run exit. Just west of River Forest, the highway goes over a river (Cedar), then intersects Hwy 218 in a huge (by this town's standards) cloverleaf, before passing to the south of Waterloo-Cedar Falls and then all the way across Iowa.

The eastbound lanes are closed, from well west of the cloverleaf until well past Elk Run. The westbound lanes are now used for two-way traffic, so it is very congested. The cloverleaf dumps 218 onto 20 right in the middle of the construction, meaning eastbound traffic, during busier times of day, moves at 5-15mph. Westbound traffic is faster, but still slowed considerably. Stopping anywhere is dangerous and inconvenient at the moment. The River Forest exit (the main route into E'dale from W'loo) has been closed since early summer. You can get on 20 there, but only to go west.

In the last two days, there have been accidents between Elk Run and River Forest that have caused them to completely divert all traffic. Yesterday an Evansdale police SUV raced towards River Forest (on Gilbert) with sirens, seconds later a Black Hawk Sheriff cruiser raced the opposite direction with sirens. A few minutes later, an Evansdale ambulance first headed to west on Gilbert, then back east, all with sirens. It seems there was difficulty reaching the spot of the accident, due to all the traffic and limited access.

reminder: you can only sleuth people directly connected to this case.

Also: the religion discussion needs to stop as directly relates back to the rule that I just bumped up about the family. Their religious beliefs are their business and speculation about the parents is not allowed.

I too think these parents are doing their best to cope with the situation. Their children are missing. I'm sure that they were full of hope for the first few hours and days that they were missing, hoping for the best, preparing for the worst. When the lake was being drained, they were probably trying to prepare mentally for the possibility that their children had accidentally drowned. After that possibility was eliminated, they had to face the horror that their children were in the hands of someone evil. At this point, they are most likely very slowly adjusting to the realization that time is running out, or has run out, for their children. I can't imagine how devastated they must feel, but I wouldn't blame them if they turned to the only crutch they may know: drug use. It doesn't help, but it may help them avoid the pain they feel. To say that it is in God's hands tells us that they feel completely helpless to do anything to help their children. I'm sure that they are completely crushed and in survival mode themselves.

I feel the same way, and remember, there are two segments of a family here that each operate and socialize in completely different circles.

One has turned even more to their faith, the other seems to have turned to their coping mechanism. Because its not how we might do it, or because it might be self-destructive or seem non-caring to us, doesn't change the fact that its all they know; its how they deal with things. Frustrating, but not surprising.

I've heard many things around town lately that are very disheartening regarding how one of the families is coping, but ppl here know them, and are more saddened than surprised. Some, of course, are angry at the family, but that seems shallow to me. I would believe that if they knew a better way out of this situation, or a better way to deal with it, they would go that route.

No disrespect intended at all, but just curious if you read Aunt T's court documents? My impression of her is very different than that of the well intentioned, bumbling aunt.

Considering that she passed the drug tests and evaluations, I think there's a chance that she was telling the truth.

The part about the pants and flat tire was too good to be faked and certainly fits the description "bumbling."

What bothers me is the purse tossed away as it was to me that says maybe they thought she was carrying money or something that purse is the one thing that jumps out at me and says this was an assault on these 2 girls and im wondering if it was KIDS!

Parents would cover for their children!

But where would kids hide two bodies?

And would parents really cover up not only two murders but also two bodies?
