Am I remembering wrong or have there not been a few other incidents with white vans in eastern Iowa as well? Is the creepy older Asian man in a white van seen a couple of times here in Iowa too or am I confusing out of state incidents with what's been up in Iowa?

Yeah, I'm familiar with that case, but I am just trying to figure out if the Asian guy in a white van seen a few times lately I remember reading about is here in Iowa or is out of state.

Maybe not, but I think most guys would be upset about going through something like this if they're innocent. It can affect jobs and personal lives. Wives and girlfriends might be shunned by friends, and your kids could be bullied at school because of it. No matter if LE turned you loose a few hours later and made a public announcement regarding your innocence, some people would still look at you with suspicion.
You might be speaking the truth, I mean no disrespect at all, but it's a whole lot easier to say it than it is to go through it.

I agree. I think we should be cautious about even using the guy's name on here. Most people don't follow the news as we do to know he was not a suspect. If we add his name, it continues to create internet links with him about this crime. He is innocent and we don't want the average person to continue to perpetuate rumors, etc just because they see his name pop-up on google on WS in this forum.

This already can run his life. If he has kids, I am sure his children will suffer at school and in their social lives, etc. Remember people believe what they see on the news and usually do not have the attention span to track cases like we do. Out of respect for him...just be cautious about using his full last name or first name...:twocents:

Lucy- Any chance you can point me to the statement about SK you are referring to? I would very grateful. I had never heard a FEDERAL LE agency make such a statement as "we believe he/he/they are alive" a week into an abduction case. My opinion is based on my own knowledge which is admittedly limited. The CR dad clearly saw the van that tried to abduct his son.

last night they put out a bulletin with a description of the van from the CR incident being a beat up white chevy astro van with MN plates w 3 creepy looking characters

later in the evening they put the photo on the TV of a nice white clean chevy astro van w/ IA plates and a clean cut young guy

how could they be one and the same?

The dad may have gotten a couple of numbers or letters from the perps vans plates and police ran them through and that was the only local van they came up with. Of course, if it was out of state plates and the dad in his panic did not note that...or now a days with some many specialized plates in many states, it is hard to figure out where a vehicle is from...the white perp van would not be in the Iowa or MN for that matter database. It does shock me that the perps would be so brazen as to continue hunting for children in the same state at this time...

What if it happened this way

They could have taken the children right out of camera view near the home.

Then two young looking accomplices come out from behind the trailer hop on the bikes, go past the cameras and go directly to the trail, drop the purse over the fence and then walk through the hidden road and they are instantly out of the scene.

This hadn't even occurred to me but sadly it makes sense. The "blurry person/people" in the surveillance video have been stuck in my head big time. Also the fact that from what little has been released only Elizabeth had a purse/bag but in that surveillance tape it sure looks like both people have some kind of bag. It seems pretty complicated but also pretty plausible.

O T, sorry. Had to take a break from all this insanity for the past day. Back now after some clarity. I did however have a disturbing half waking dream/vision last night that the persons responsible for this crime are reading here on WS also. cindersoot's post about seeing a guy at lake came to mind as to how dangerous it is out there and the high stakes involved. This life or death, missing children, kidnapping, drug rings, possible murder. The dream left me very concerned. Who's to say the scanner threads (here and on fb) are not being monitored by the perps. I fear we are in over our heads on this one. JMO.

Call me crazy, but, the whole white van/young guy sighting was a little too, umm, contrived? If they had video that clear, wouldn't they have the plates also?

Was the release of video stills an attempt to legally obtain DNA from that guy, or to give the real perp the impression that LE is ON to him/them, and they have video?

Something is up with that video release.

Wasn't it stated LE went to Casey's and was wanting the cash receipts to look over? I think they ran all the credit or debit cards for people within the open time frame of 12:15 - 4....and then began checking the cash receipt times and matching to vehicles on surveillance. ( I wouldn't think there would be many cash sales for gas these days.) Yet, there were surely other cash customers...if only to buy cigs, sodas, milk, beer, etc. ??

Yes I do remember seeing that.

Another random thought is that some places charge less if you pay cash for gas vs. using a card, even a debit card. I think it's a financial advantage for the store. Personally I just get gas where I get gas and it looks reasonably priced but my husband has been telling me about the places that charge less if you pay cash and he looks for them. I have no idea if this is just a California thing though.

Thank you thank you!! The button wasn't enough. I have no idea what this guy's history is and have chosen NOT to look since he was cleared in this case, but it scares the heck out of me that deciding to get gas on a particular day at a particular time can totally mess up your life. Don't get me wrong, if you're guilty, all bets are off and it SHOULD IMO ruin your life. But I've definitely seen totally innocent people have their lives ruined by something like this.

Springfield Police Looking for Van, Occupants in Attempted Kidnapping
June 21st, 2012

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Springfield Police are asking the public’s help in locating a van, allegedly involved in an attempted kidnapping Wednesday evening.

Around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, police say that a large white van, occupied by two men, allegedly approached two 13-year-old girls near the intersection of Dickinson Street and Keith Street.


The passenger attempted to grab the girls and pull them into the van, according to police.


The girls were able to escape to safety and call police.


Detectives with the department’s special victims unit are now looking for the van and seeking the two men inside for questioning.


Police are also looking to check on the well-being of a girl reportedly seen inside the van at the time of the attempted kidnapping.


Witness told police that a girl was seen in a rear window motioning for the girls on the street to run away.

The van is described as a large white van with green license plates. The van may hold about 16 people and police believe it may be similar to a Ford Econoline van.

When the creeples picture disappeared from the CL post (I think I'm correct about this) about 2 minutes (I may be exagerating a bit, but not much) after someone here found it, I figured that was probably the case.

Not sure if this fits in anywhere, but thinking about how easy it is to climb a van and drop or lower something like a bike, purse or even a person from its' roof.I was surprised very late one night, to see some local teenagers atop a van roof parked by the house, (bringing them higher than my garden security camera would have captured) and when they heard a noise, (me) they slid right down and slunk alongside the cars nearby.if I did not happen to look out that window at that time I would never have known...
