Does anyone know if the road crew poured new concrete the evening of the 13th? I read that and got a disturbing thought. Did they pour cement or were they laying down new asphalt? Anyone know?

I haven't heard but that is a good question! Would be curious to hear the answer.

Any of the road crew could have been eating lunch at the lake or running to Casey's during the crucial time period.

Here is a link from the FCC about wireless 911 calls. Lots of info here about the current rules and new rules required of wireless providers they're phasing in (if I read that correctly) over 8 years.

http://www.fcc.gov/guides/wireless-911-services/

What jumped out at me is not all phones are "location capable". They can be used for 911 calls, but can't be traced. So if you know yours isn't location capable, make sure the first thing in an emergency to give your number in case the call is disconnected because they won't be able to call you back. :what:

They can triangulate a call, however. There are times where they can locate basic area on the 911 only phones. Typically, with any phone that is 911 only or appears to have no signal...when you dial you may not even hear EMS, but you just keep talking. If it hangs up, you do the same thing, talk and talk. Thay can hear you, due to sattelite services, but you may not hear them.

We do know that the police have listed Lyric's official height on the Iowa missing persons website as 5'11". Perhaps they are impeccably professional in all other aspects of their work.

I was a professional copy editor (for small local presses) once upon a time. Catching typos like that is a lot harder than you'd think.

All I know is that the Evansdale PD response was prompt, vigorous and they called in the big guns (DCI and FBI) very quickly.

Setting all that aside to judge them on a single typo seems unfair to me.

The information is available, although I'm not sure how the name of the owners of that property would contribute to finding the girls. It looks like all the properties in the area have small boathouses ... which makes sense since they're all lakeside homes.

I agree. the only thing that may be of value is to know who the house was shown to and who the agent was. If there are records of that. Some houses are only shown to prequalified buyers, so there would be a list. Others are shown to anyone. And that anyone could easily look over the shoulder of the showing agent and see the code for the lock box and have access to the house.

Excellent thought...bang on lunchtime...one of them must've seen SOMETHING you would think.

Unless the dip meant it was completely hidden from view right where the bikes were found, which I seem to remember. :dunno:

Locals?

Where did you locate the picture? If it's Elizabeth, she has a younger sister who wears glasses. Could Elizabeth have put her sister's glasses on just for fun?

I just don't think perp(s) would go to all the trouble of loading up the bikes and then staging them later ... why? Why not just dump them somewhere else to wherever they were heading, why risk this in the daylight.

Also, how did perp get bikes to that location without being seen. How would they know that family members could have been right there at Arbutus and Maiden Lane if they had taken the path with the bikes and had parked in the path.

Just IMO

If the perp is local...of course you would want the bikes on the opposite side of town to buy you time. If the bikes were staged...you are talking maybe 1-5 minutes for an adult to get those bikes there from the road. If they had a lookout for others down the path...that could have been a very fast process. And it would have worked out well because, the first part of the search focused on the girls in the lake...

Thank you for the photo of Elizabeth wearing glasses! Wow ... I'm lost for words. We have two missing children, at least one owns a pair of glasses but the missing persons posters and images completely omit that important detail. to me, that's like omitting eye color. It's a detail that will help identify her ... because if she needs glasses and she's not wearing them, it will be evident to some people.

Do we know which way the bikes were facing? It would be interesting to know if they had done a "loop" of the lake on bikes and were on their way home. Maybe they did this often. I used to have "rides" I would go on. Maybe, someone had been watching their daily or weekly rides. Kids like routines. Kids like to break their "time records". Maybe if they had been asked, did you go to the lake by family, it would not really be a lie to say no, if they were just doing a loop...Also...was the river near the house ever searched? I still wonder if the bikes were planted there. If I understand correctly, many people were at the scene helping search A perp could have easily tracked the girls scent around on purpose of not by "assisting" with the search.

I am surprised at the distance. Was is far or just looks that way on the map? Two young girls? I hope it looks further than it is.

Sorry, I am new. Meant to quote Otto.

I was wondering that a thread or two back. It may not be the owner of the house, but, if the house is in the MLS...many people have access to it. Real estate agents, people pretending to want to see the house, etc. It could be a good staging point for an abduction, especially if taking a bike ride around the lake was a rountine things the girls did.

I know someone who was shopping for a new home and toured one that she particularly liked while her hubby was at work. She wanted to show it to him later that day, but the realtor was not available to show it again after he got off of work.

Sooooo...my friend took a look at the back porch right before she and the realtor left the house, being careful to pull the door shut, but not quite shut all of the way, (oopsie!). She then returned to the home with her hubby later that afternoon, exclaimed , Oh, look, the back yard is very nice...and hey, guess someone didn't shut the door all of the way, it's our lucky day! Presto-change-o, enter the vacant home for sale and no one is the wiser!

Maybe we could use that girl at Websleuths. She is pretty sneaky! :moo:

Different glasses than the purple ones her little sis is wearing on Heather's fb page. They look like they have a different shape too. I got this pic from fb.

If the girls left their eyeglasses at home that day, what would be the point of including it in the descriptions?

If they were used to leaving their glasses at home, it seems unlikely to me that their behaviour would be an overt giveaway to their need for glasses.

It is a distance, but it is also not very far. They are kids on bikes and when I was a kid with a bike, I would goes miles sometimes...LOL. Perhaps a new friend showed them the loop around the lake path a while back and they started taking that ride. But...in terms of distance even 2 miles on a bike is only 15-30 or so minutes ...especially if you are a kid who likes to "race" and beat your old time "record" on the ride.

Two of my girls were prescribed reading glasses, one far-sighted and the other near-sighted. They wore them very irregularly because they didn't like having to keep up with them. After the first few months they both gave up and pretended to leave them at school (where they also did not wear them) a lot. Summer came and went, both girls had no trouble reading and playing sports without the glasses and they never wore them again. Our doc says children's eyes change as they grow, not to worry!

I think it's quite possible that Elisabeth did not wear her glasses when they left to ride bikes.

MOO

Very true. And it maybe something the girls have shared with the perp or the perp knows from previous sightings...so if someone happens to know it at random...it may be a link. Certain details should be kept private.

I agree. I think they would have come down Lake Ave and then cut thru the grassy area.

Wouldn't there be a scent trail though. I guess I am very confused. Did LE use the dogs to track the girls back to the place they started that morning or did the dogs only search the lake shore?

Well looking at this map, there is no way, if the cctv (Cornbelt Auctions) captured the girls on their bikes at 12:19 p.m. that TG saw the bikes at the trail at approx. 12:20 p.m. Those bikes must have been someone elses. (Adjusted time due to CA's cctv being 8 minutes slow).

Question for Ollipop: How many washrooms are scattered throughout the park. TIA

imo
One question I have about the timeline... has LE/FBI every said they have a unified timeline and given definite times and locations or are we just using the cctv said 12:11 (fast/slow/whatever) and TG said 12:20ish.

Without some kind of independent reference to align these times, I am getting very uncomfortable with the timeline.

I can't remember the poster, sorry, but the scenario presented was abduction of the girls from the street in Evansdale and also taking the bikes as well.

If there was an abduction from the street, either local perp or perp travelling through Evansdale, I still can't see see them bothering about taking and staging bikes, especially if perp was out of state and was catching the interstate immediately upon abducting the girls.

imo
