I'm still stuck on camping, fishing, biking, puppies, and creepy versions of stuff like that.

There are so many euphamisms and unsaid things that I have no clue about what is being discussed. Is the idea that a good person kidnapped the girls and that this good person will return the children to their parents when he gets around to it? At the same time, Elizabeth's mother has a serious heart condition and this kidnapping certainly isn't helping her health ... but a good person may have done this?

Thanks for playing. I like how you're thinking "outside the box" a bit instead of spinning circles on how bikes might be staged, you're looking at who might have motive or means. Definitely gets me thinking.

I agree, this is thought-provoking IMO.

My theories are do not involve good intentions. Let me rephrase. My theories to do not involve good intentions by the possible perp(s). My intentions are good :)

What could be a motive for kidnapping two girls, other than the obvious?

I keep hearing that it rained that day. Does anyone know if it was a good enough rain that a person shouldn't have to WATER their grass for three hours that same day?

i think the rain was like 0.01 inches that morning....not much if any

I can't imagine that any kidnapper has good intentions.

Three options - sex, revenge, money.

That's about it.

Well, I think the when the non custodial parent abducts they think its for the best interest of the child and sometimes they are right.
Has anything surfaced here where someone thought these girls would be better off away from the family? Simply yes or no would be good on this touchy subject.

Revenge and money? There is no ransom request, so money isn't a factor. Revenge kidnapping? Is there any other case in history where two children from two families were kidnapped for revenge and, if so, what was accomplished?

I'll just say it, for otto's sake and anyone else.

The girls were last seen riding in front of their home, directly behind Lederman's Big & Tall Clothing and Safety Footwear store.

On a possibly unrelated note, if you were to be arrested in Black Hawk County and needed bail, you might call Lederman's Bail Bonds.

There is also a property not far from Maiden Lane owned by a Lederman.

As MNDad has repeatedly said, there is no reason to believe any of these are connected to the girls' disappearance, other than the location of a home and a business corresponding to near the lake and near the last-known sighting of the girls.

Thank you. So none of this has any connection to the missing children other than proximity to the SE tip of Meyers Lake.

So let's talk about Casey's.

Okay, enough with the riddles please. If you know TOS says you can't talk about someone or something, then don't try to find your way around it!

I meant that in a generic sense only. as generally crimes are committed for one of three basic reasons, which are sex, revenge, and money. The root of all crime is pretty much accepted to be one of these three and they are the traditional starting points for LE investigating violent crime.

My point is, if you eliminate pedos (sex) you have only two common motives left, being revenge or money.

Sorry if that was unclear. I am not hinting at any one or anything in this case, just noting Investigation 101. :ohoh:

My bad. I started it. Just brainstorming to see if changing the flow makes something else click for us. It's more about getting creative juices flowing than it is about sleuthing these individuals per se. I stopped but I started a ball rolling down hill that I couldn't stop.

Those may be typical motives for crime, but the kidnapping of children seems to be a separate category. There is a section covering victim selection and motivation in the research paper that SouthernMom posted upthread. According to the study, money and revenge are not motives in the kidnapping of children. Here is the link:

I really believe that sex was the reason for the abduction. Makes me sick to say it.

Correct. It is usually sex.

I was stating if you eliminate sex, in response to another poster's question, traditionally there are only two motives left.

Would you consider "control" to be part of revenge? Because if these girls were taken by someone other than a pedophile, I think it would be for control, either over a person or a situation.

I'm not saying I think this is what happened, just wondering how you see it re: control as a motive.
