It's pretty common in populated areas to have a pet stolen and then sold for drug money. Watch your chihuahuas.

Agree with you. I have no compassion for thieves.

Not doubting this, but I'm from NJ, which is obviously a very populated area, and I never heard of that happening. Do you mean that people will steal the pets of strangers? Or that drug dealers will steal the pets of people who owe them money?

Jules I have the same questions.

In other news, Chelsea Hoffman has joined one of the FB groups.

Who is Chelsea Hoffman?

Thanks. Found her - had to look her up. Didn't know who she was. ;)

I knew a woman who stole a dog, she saw it being mistreated, went back in the dark of the night and took her.

The dog absolutely adores her and will not leave her side.

Sorry OT but yes, I've heard of it happening. I don't know that it's always for drugs, but it happens for money for sure. In certain areas, it's not recommended to let your dog, especially purebred, out into the yard unattended - even a fenced yard.

I heard a story (first-hand) from a guy who lived in a somewhat questionable neighborhood and had his pitbull puppy stolen TWICE from his fenced yard. The first time he assumed the dog had just gotten out somehow and put up "missing" posters with reward money promised. As soon as the posters went up, he got a call. The "finders" wanted to meet in a public place (in hindsight, probably so the guy with the missing dog wouldn't know where they lived). A few weeks later the same dog disappeared AGAIN and similar scenario. He recognized one of the people in the family when they came to give him the dog they "found." He said he wasn't 100% sure but he thinks it was the person he'd bought the puppy from originally.

I know a couple of stories like that, too! :)

Much happier stories than dogs stolen to re-sell, fight, or for the reward money.

SBM

I think the worst are those who are taken to be used as bait dogs, I've also heard that those who fight dogs watch for ads with free dogs, or fairly inexpensive, to use too.

Last night I posted about finding the post on thread #2 about the dogs picking up scent by the dock that was later removed from the lake. It didn't say if the scent was picked up on the dock or just in the general area.

Does that factor into anyone else's theories about what happened to the girls once they got to the lake? Of course, I'm asking this for those of you who do believe the girls actually made it to the lake sometime that day.

I thought that placing them near the parking lot may help me make sense of TG's sighting of the bikes. I have been playing with the maps for awhile and it doesn't really make any difference in how much time it would have taken for the girls to get to the lake from Brovan. It looks like it would have taken atleast ten minutes.

So, any thoughts about the scent picked up near the dock? I realize this is old news but I hadn't seen it until yesterday. I've been pondering it all day today. Do you think the girls entered the bike trail from the parking lot area at the lake, or do you think they entered from the east over near Arbutus?

Just for the heck of it, I rode through town earlier today, on a very similar bike trail (paved, flat and limited to foot and bike). I covered 1.5 miles in just 8 minutes, doing an average speed of about 10.5MPH. I had to pause at one intersection for the crosswalk light, but otherwise road relatively unimpeded, slowing and checking for traffic at 3-4 places cross traffic might be. As to the speed I maintained, I would call it pretty relaxed, not pushed, yet not really “lazy” slow. Aside from the one stop at the intersection, I think my slowest speed was about 8MPH. Could an 8 and 10 year old have beaten me that far? Absolutely, and if they were only moderately pushing for a bit of speed. My conclusion, quite frankly, is that Lyric and Elizabeth could definitely have made a mile and a half trip from where the Collins’ live to that bike trail where the bikes were found in 8 minutes. (For the record, my bike is a hybrid mountain bike, relatively heavy, with knobby tires. Probably about equal to the one Lyric was riding, all considering.)

He says he is following the rules, but says he doesn't know where the girls are.

"I would go get them myself. I have tried to come up with any kind of possible scenario of any kind," Morrissey said.

So now he waits, hoping to hear from his daughter and niece.

"Lyric if you're out there, I love you baby. I just pray, I just pray that you're ok," said Morrissey

They could have biked to the gate at the jetty. Dropped their bikes, walked thru the unlocked gate, set the purse down and got in a paddleboat with a friend. They could have then boated over to the other side of the lake, exited the boat at the dock and then got in a vehicle so their "friend" could drive them back to the other side closer to their bikes. However they never got there. This would not explain their scent in the wooded area though.

So who was arrested and who is no longer speaking for the family? Sorry - just catching up on the last 12 hours of posts. Spent the day at our county fair today. Had a nice time! :)

Glad you had a good time at the fair! No longer speaking for the family I think people are referring to Aunt T., and it's been awhile since she's said anything.

Arrested I'm not sure. I'm a bit lost on that.

She has an online 'blog'..has written about the case..I don't much care for her myself.

Me neither.

She's low on facts and high on hysteria.

Someone to NOT read if you are concerned with accuracy or anything else but her opinion.

Hell to the NO!

I have a hard enough time getting my kitties to acknowledge me as it is, I'd be wiped completely if I brought one of those bark critters home!

I'd be in the dog house with it!
