I have never corrected anyone, so I may not be a rude *** and only be a pompous ***. I just make a little mental note of who uses it for my pompous file. ;)

When I was new here (month ago) I used to get frustrated with the off topic conversations and now I instigated one. One of two things has happened (or both). 1) I feel more comfortable with everyone and consider everyone here my anonymous friends or 2) I no longer have anything of value to add to the conversation that is on topic.

On July 18th LE officials called for all residential and commercial trash in the city of Evansdale to be set aside in the Black Hawk county landfill to be searched through by those involved in the ongoing investigation for the missing girls. This was 6 days after they went missing, so why would they do this if they tought the girls were still alive?

Because they were following all the main possibilities. It has been clear since the very beginning that LE efforts have not concentrated on just one possibility.

Last night, they did pick up on a scent near a dock on the lake, so that area was the focus of attention for much of last night.by Aaron Hepker - KCRG 2:33 PMhttp://www.kcrg.com/evansdaledisappearance

That's all I know about it.

I think it's possible that what he called a dock was actually what WS has been referring to as the jetty. The tiny peninsula of rock sticking near the southeast corner of Meyer's Lake.

I'm ok with being your anonymous friend that has nothing of value to add either. :seeya:

^^^^YES!!

And it all happened the same weekend. The weekend of (I think) the 20th. JW was put in jail for 48 hours, Misty and Dan went to a hotel, got aggressively questioned, then lawyered up, then un-lawyered up. The last press conference was held 2 days later. Then the interview footage from that weekend was subpoenaed and the surveillance video was released....then............NOTHING. :maddening:

My personal theory is that they were pretty convinced up to that weekend that the family was involved, and were getting aggressive ... And then something ruled out the suspect, or didn't pan out and then it was back to square one.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, I think EVERYONE has something of value to add, they just maybe don't know it,

FOR example:

The case of the Abducted and Murdered Pizza deliveryman,

Police could not figure out where he was and then once he was found tried to figure out just when he was murder.

They figured out that it was his last delivery, which they later found out it, was an abandon house so they tried to track the cell phone number to who called it in....

It was a track phone, disposable.

Then the case went cold for a long time until cold case got it and a rookie said just as a joke, what did the person order to have delivered?

Here to find out it was a Hawaiian pizza with NO pineapple!!!!

Well they then called around to the entire pizza place and realized there was only one person who had always place this order...

Guess WHAT?

It was he and he confessed.

THIS IS ONLY MY PERSONAL OPINION!

I absolutely love that people want to come out and help search!!!

BUT!

I have seen way too many cases where volunteer, (untrained, NOT SAR) have searched and not found a missing person and then years later, the person is found right where the volunteers had searched.

I am a HUGE fan or SAR and would sell my right arm to make sure every state, County have a TRAINED SAR team for search and rescue.

Matter of Fact I would love to see when a case comes up like this
A single call out to all SAR team nationwide to come in and do a trained search.

Just Saying............

During my "time-out", I had time to reflect on the case, and I was drawn to the beginning of the disappearance. There was so much optimism, hope, and encouragement, and the belief that "they are still alive" before the case was classified as "an abduction". Prior to that time, family and community involvement was visible, witnesses came forward, evidence was collected, and LE/FBI briefings were given. I know with the passage of time, a lot of activity dwindles gradually. However, it seems to me that there was a SUDDEN halt in the activity, the investigation became more elusive, and obvious search efforts and family presence became less visible.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like something critical happened to someone or something in the investigation that triggered the "halt". Did some key POI disappear (death, jail, flee the area) and now LE/FBI is "lost"? Did some communication with POI or girl's cease? What changed in the investigation?

I feel strongly that LE/FBI has or maybe had a suspect, evidence, witness that is/was key to this disappearance, and for some reason, something changed it.

Any ideas??????????

MOO

Sometimes this happens when LE has basically solved the crime, in that they have a good idea of what happened, but lack the evidence to make arrests or close the case.

I'm thinking in the Lisa Irwin case, we saw similar behavior. . . after we learned that LE had a cadaver dog hit in the parents' home. In the Ayla Reynolds case it died down and then we learned that LE had discovered a "troubling" amount of blood evidence in the dad's basement. In both of those cases there have still been no arrests and the cases are still open. In Ayla's case it would take a moron to not see that her dad or one of the two other adults who were in the home are responsible, but sadly they really need the body to move the case forward. . .sooo frustrating!

Of course, these are just my observations. It might be that LE has just exhausted any leads and don't really have anything. . .so now they wait for more leads.

Thanks...

I think one of these things (or maybe something else that happened during this time) holds the key or is the "stumbling block" to solving the disappearance.

Did anything else happen, did someone die, move, disappear during this time?

BTW-I don't have any theories, just not able to review 1 month of events.

<snipped for space> Who walks around with a dog in tow asking if anyone wants to buy it? You would have to put an ad in the paper and then wait until a buyer responds, then what if 5 people show up and none of them decide to take the dog? Wouldn't a person be into some serious withdrawal by then??? That's a lot of hassle to get drug money. Easier and quicker to steal a car. IMO.

One more quick OT on this subject (since we seem to have a lot of pet lovers on this thread):

BBM - while I agree with you completely, apparently people do. That's how the guy I mentioned got his puppy in the first place. Group of guys walking through his neighborhood with a wagon full of pitbull puppies and a for sale sign. I don't know if they were drumming up money for drugs or just money in general. It was sad, the puppies were way too young to be away from their mom - I would guess his pup was maybe 5 weeks old. She was adorable but she couldn't eat solid food yet and would suckle on your fingers or toes. Guess the 'breeders' needed the money or got tired of taking care of the pups. And yes, I do think the guy was insane for buying a dog under those circumstances but it happens.

ETA: just in case it comes across negatively I wanted to clarify I have no problem with pitbulls. They just happen to be the dog I hear about the most often in this type of scenario, particularly in the not so great areas of town around here.

I heard the dock was removed so the divers could search easier, and last time I was there the dock was there but not in the water, just out and sitting aside.

I think it was also to prevent the dock from getting damaged when they drained the lake. Someone local - I believe it was Ollipop? - mentioned that the last time they drained the lake they didn't remove the dock and it got a little bit damaged.

Before I go I need Mr. C's address so I can ride by there.

I can see cindersroot, windows down, left arm hanging out, cap pulled low over her eyes...slowly cruising past Mr. C's house, eyes scanning the cars in the driveway, the flowerbeds... looking for movement from behind the blinds when Mr. C suddenly pops out of the bushes armed with his water hose, only to catch a brief profile as she speeds off with a screech of her tires and a puff of exhaust! :takeoff:

(You know, like the big bug on the exterminator commercial.)

This can't be OT 'cause cindersroot is doing this for real, right?

Oh heck, that happens to trained SAR teams as well.

In this case, the local SAR organisations did turn out, dog/handler teams from literally all over the state.

It would be nice to have a nationwide response but the vast majority of SAR personnel couldn't afford to deploy like that. They are almost all of them volunteers and they just don't have the kind of money that would let them deploy like that on a weekly basis (and probably more like a daily basis). Not only would travel costs be prohibitive but they have to support themselves with regular jobs.

I have a friend who has been called out for international calls and her employer is very generous about letting her go on a day's notice. But it also means she lives from paycheck to paycheck because her employer cannot pay her for the time she is gone.

I seem to recall that before the end of the daily press conferences, WS'ers were already complaining that each one was a rehash of previous information, nothing new offered.

So it didn't seem sudden to me when things came to a halt. It had been clear to me for several days that LE had released as much information as they were comfortable releasing.

OT

Its in the dictionary but listed as nonstandard. Suggested usage is 'regardless'. But, yes, I've heard it all my life so I don't even notice it.

I was being a little sarcastic, but I'm like you, I don't pay much attention to it, either.

I posted this awhile back but I saw a short interview on t.v. with the former superintendant of schools in a big town close to where I live recently, who said something like working for the school district had been a "very rewarding experience for my family and I." That stunned me... a college educated superintendant, FGS! It should have been for "my family and me."

Little trick to use to determine if it's correct is to drop the one noun, and if it doesn't sound right to say, "for I" then you know to use "me."

It also sounds wrong to me to hear someone say "for myself" but I don't know if that's improper or just my thinking. I'm smart, but not that smart. :floorlaugh:
