Thks for the suggestion, Sunlight. It's strange that I didn't think of having this thread tagged given our failure to find the "old discussion" due to no tags! (:

Ty, "Busy Bee Mod" for tagging. I had to smile when I saw your post because, knowing you were onboard, I was trying to decide whether to ask you for assistance. lol

here is a primer on adding a tag:

scroll down to the very end of the posts and you will see a little squished box. One the left it says bookmarks and on the far right it says (really small) "edit tags".

click on edit tags

type in whatever you want (just not cuss words  yes some have done that and been put in the naughty chair)

you can add quite a few at once

click the enter button and walla there they are.

I can't believe these 2 little girls haven't been found yet.

I've been gone a few weeks and haven't caught up yet so please excuse me if I mention subjects already discussed to death.

When the girls weren't found in the lake, I believed they must have been abducted. But as time has passed and we've still found nothing about what happened to them, I've changed my mind again.

Are there any nearby areas the where the girls could have become trapped or lost? I'm thinking old wells, run-down buildings, caves, etc. I'm assuming the girls left their bikes on the path while they ran off to see whatever it was that interested them. Then they couldn't get back or get out.

Surely, they searched any such places. I was just wondering if you had included the possibility in your discussion and what people thought?

This is such a strange case. One missing girl is bad enough, but to be missing two of them, it's almost inconceivable to me.

Praying for the girls & their families.

Human trafficking can in no way be mistaken for "prostitution".

Prostitution is VOLUNTARY and results in a profit to the prostitute.

The term you are looking for is "white slavery"...outdated to be sure.

There is no profit to the victim or voluntary circumstances in human trafficking...it is INVOLUNTARY (ie. forced) and the profit goes to a third party.

NB: the "profit" may not be cash.

It's called child prostitution, but you are right, it used to be called white slavery. I research a lot of very old cases (1910-1940) and "white slavery" was blamed in many instances when young girls/women disappeared without a trace.

So "human trafficking", under whatever name, has been around for a very long time IMO. But nowadays, with the internet and online availability of child 🤬🤬🤬🤬, there is a disgustingly "healthy" profit to be made by those who are willing to make money off of the pain and degradation of youngsters/teens. And as we have seen, there are way too many scumbags out there willing to do just that. JMO

With regard to Lyric and Elizabeth, I hate the thought of them being in the hands of someone who would abuse them that way. But at least that way, they are still alive.

For those who don't think this happens, think again. Looks to be wide spread.

Wow, that article sure makes me think about Lyric and Elizabeth. I can see something like this occurring to them, but instead of being picked up at home, they were picked up at the lake. I believe their abductor had promised something special, such as shopping and eating out. JMO

Snip:

The girl, referred to as JDE, said she met Ronald Lee Gilbert, 24, on a "chat line" and gave him her phone number. On Jan. 7, Gilbert picked her up at her home. She later told Milwaukee police she believed he was going to take her to Milwaukee to go shopping and eat.

I watched a Dr Phil show that featured a couple of survivors of just such a thing.

What really struck me the hardest was the amount of customers who were willing to rape a child...and the amount of witnesses who were willing to look away.

It doesn't just happen in filthy motels either...one girl was routinely sold by her father in her own bedroom, usually for drugs.

I know... I hope they're alive and can work through whatever happened/is happening to them. I kept hoping that someone thought they were maybe "rescuing" the girls or at least holding on to them but taking care of them, for whatever reason. It's just been so long now though, I know it's very unlikely.

It sounds awful but at this point I hope that if they're not alive, they were killed right away and did not suffer for weeks/months. :(

Can any of the locals comment on the military tank depicted in the background of some of the early case photographs at the lake?

I agree with you that there is nothing new about human trafficking (prostitution).

Prostitution in the US typically does not result in any profit going to the prostitute. Almost all prostitutes have a pimp who "owns" them and to whom they must turn over all their money. The pimp often starts out with an emotional hold over the victim but typically does his best to get her hooked on some sort of drug as insurance against the day when his emotional hold will no longer work.

Pimps buy and sell prostitutes from each other.

There are a handful of prostitutes who got into sex work voluntarily (no emotional coercion) and who keep their own profits. Such women are at high risk for assault, both by johns and from pimps, who do not want their "stable" to get any big ideas.

All the more reason to legalise it and get it off the streets.

It is legal where I live, the girls are registered, there is a union, health inspections of facilities, minimum wage, superannuation, work cover, etc, etc.

Just like any other business.

This is why I say that human trafficking is NOT prostitution...at least Aussie style.

My own darling niece got me to drive her to work the other day - I had no idea until we got there that it was a brothel. A nice, busy, clean, legal brothel, but still not I wish for her. :(

At least I have the comfort of knowing she is safe and well paid and able to go home when her shift is over.

Yes, they have shifts, and can get sacked for not showing up, just like any other job.

I'm not a local, but I did notice that tank in a previous picture I was looking at. The locals said it's been there at the playground for quite awhile for kids to play on. I'll see if I can find it again.

IIRC the locals discussing it within the last couple of days, and the upshot was that bikes were not allowed on it so it was pretty much disregarded.
