Whomever did this, may have never done (acted it out to competion)this before, but it's an almost certainty that they had imagined it many, many times before. Where they go, what they would do, and I think they saw their opportunity and took it...just like they had imagined so many times before.
They may have even done a "dry run" before, practicing the best lures, the best times, ect.. ect...
It in effect could look very planned out, when in fact it was opportunistic, but it had been carefully rehearsed, and so it would make it look very organized.
MOO.

Respectfully disagree.

One of the most famous cases in Australia was Daniel Morcombe, a young boy who was taken from a bus stop on the side of a BUSY highway in Queensland.

It was a spur of the moment abduction.

One minute Daniel was there, literally 2 minutes later he was gone. That is all his murderer needed to get him off the road, into his car, and disappear without a trace.

Agree, when it involves only one child. Respectfully imo.

Oh dear. JVM does have new info.

1. Daniel has long rap sheet of arrests, most recently meth (very recent). Caught with 3 meth labs. Trial coming up in 3 weeks. He is addicted to it and makes it.

2. Daniel and Misti have been separated for some time. Daniel is bio father (speculation was he was step-father)

3. Daniel has a 16 yo son and was at home with him when girls went missing.

wow, thats not good

I would think as far as the community goes, yes, we'd notice a transient in our neighborhoods. Especially in Evansdale, you tend to know more about the neighbors.

Thanks, so based on this would it be safer to say (hypothetically...u can never really say anything for sure) that if this was in fact an abduction it would be more favorable that it was someone from/formerly from the area?

I missed the details, but it seems the relative being interviewed on JVM just said there have been charges against DM for abusing Misti. Didn't get details though. No wonder DM is getting defensive.

I wonder if Jim Spellman got any of this info during his phone call with Daniel today.

OMG why does nearly every case I follow lately have a meth connection! Geez!

Back in 1978, a 12 year old junior high student in Florida had her first class of the day in a temporary building outside the main building of her junior high school. She went into the main building for her second class but then realised she'd left her purse in the first class classroom. So she ran back out to the temporary building to reclaim her purse.

After that, the story gets a little blurry. See, that girl's name was Kimberly Leach and she was Ted Bundy's last victim.

Looking at the story before Ted enters the picture, it's almost inconceivable that she would be murdered that day. If she had attended a different junior high school. If she had been assigned a different classroom. If she hadn't forgotten her purse. If Ted hadn't been prowling that day.

So many things had to fall together for Kimberly Leach to die that day that it would have seemed impossible the day before that Kimberly would be Ted Bundy's last victim.

And yet, all those seemingly impossible things all fell together in just the wrong way for that poor girl.

At this point, I feel it is too soon to rule out a predator who found a spot that looked like a good place to hunt. That the predator wasn't looking specifically for Elizabeth and Lyric but in some way, circumstances fell together in such a way that they fit his profile for potential victims.

Ollipop and a few other locals have all said that they have felt uncomfortable about that one stretch of trail, that it's essentially a blind curve, closed in, close enough to I380 so that traffic noise muffles other sounds, etc.

Sounds like the sort of place that predators seek out.

I grew up not far from there and was about Kimberly's age. I was, and am still haunted by the picture of her the papers always ran. So cute, a bright smile, a girl my age. And killed by a monster.

Her death made my small world feel less safe and carefree. Probably because it was. :(

Oh no this is really bad. Hope this is not related to the disappearance. Praying for Elizabeth and Lyric.

Found it odd, regarding the dogs, she said, "WE will analyze" the information. She's so keyed up, it's hard to listen. MOObvs

bbm: I knew it..

they were lured into the woods.. why get off the bikes and go into the woods?

They were lured there imhoo. (and not by anyone related to them.. the timeline is too tight imhoo.. this seems to me to be an impulse grab by someone in the woods at the same time they were there)

You can go here - click on trial court and then type in any name you want to look at:

https://www.iowacourts.state.ia.us

You can see on here that at one time Elizabeth's mom Heather Collins had temporary custody of Lyric until 2007 and Grandma Wylma Cook had temp custody of Lyric's brother. We talked about this in the first thread.

This is an interesting read. Seams like they skipped a few steps...
http://www.missingkids.com/en_US/publications/NC88.pdf

Can you tell us what steps it seems they missed? TIA!!!

I took the "more comfortable" quote that she would prefer to wait and see if they drowned before wanting to think about them being abducted. Personally, if they are no longer w/us I would want to believe drowning -not that they had been kidnapped. If kidnapped, God knows what has happened or is happening to them. If they drowned, it would devastating but the family would know they didn't suffer for long.

jmo

I waver back and forth. If they are in the lake, they're dead. But if they were abducted, they could still be alive.

father feels like a suspect??? why?? all parents go through this right?

Yeah, I think the title is misleading and so was the reporters lead in. Very misleading. The dad was answering questions and the reporter kind of put that in his mouth. She asked something they did not show and then he said, "you tell them the truth and then they say you're holding something back, and you're not, what more do you have to talk about? You know? You go over and over and over it, you know? So, um, I don't know." (shrug of the shoulders). The reporter then asked, "Does that make you feel like a suspect?" Dad replied "Um...[looks down and is thinking, long pause, then looks up decisively and states, "It made me feel like yeah they were looking at me like a suspect. But, um, as far as what I know, uh, I'm not, I know, I know the truth, you know what what I mean? I know when I'm telling the truth. So, uh, sure, it was defensive."

The demeanor of this dad to m,e seemed very believable and frustrated. I think the reporter was angling for something and got it. I really feel sorry for these people. The parents go on to describe how it;s getting hard, how hard today was. My heart goes out to them.

Questions for the reporters to ask LE:

The family claims they last saw them at 11:30 but LE is still reporting 12:15 - where is the 12:15 time coming from?

Has the 12:27 bike sighting at the lake been confirmed?

Has the 2:30 sighting of the girls by man at the lake been confirmed?

Has the sighting of the girls by the man watering his lawn on Lake Ave. between 12 - 3 been confirmed?

Which direction were the bikes facing?
How were they found? Lying down on path, standing up on kickstands?

Was the purse/bag over the fence? Which fence?

Thank you! Excellent questions.

I'm not too impressed by this either. But if dad is a drug addict, he may not be of sound mind to be making comments to the media:

http://abcnews.go.com/US/missing-iowa-girls-dad-feels-suspect/story?id=16806825

"You tell them the truth and they say, 'You're holding something back,' and you're not. What is left to talk about? You know, we go over and over and over again," he told KCCI Des Moines Tuesday. "It made me feel like, 'Yeah, they're looking at me like a suspect.'"
