I agree. If I was a creep, I'd look for 1 kid instead of 2. Much easier. And solo kids are not that difficult to find out on a warm sunny day.

Maybe one of them fought to protect the other. We just don't know. I think anyone can lure a child or more.

Hope you all have seen the Dateline special with the Ice Cream man. You would be shocked. Kids who were taught stranger danger were easily lured into an ice cream truck. Of course it was fake and the filming was a set up to see which children would be lured. Needless to say, the parents were watching the whole thing right in front of their eyes and in shock.

Sadly, that is reality. We can teach them to scream, kick, yell, run but when they're lured ...it takes one second of distraction and it's over.

My local opinion is that its related to the trial or to sm. I do not think the parents did it but someone could be trying to make a point.I also noticed at 4pm Presser that le said I have no new information to release. He did not say there was no new information. Watch that again.

Can boats go on that lake ? Does anybody know ?
Thank you,
Mystic

They could since there is a dock but much of the lake isn't all that deep, especially with the drought. I've never seen anyone in a boat on the lake that I can reacall.

I asked this a few pgs back-could the girls have gone on a boat-are there houses on this lake-no answer yet! Although last night I think they pulled a boat dock out of the water!

There are houses surrounding some of the lake. The east side of the lake butts motly into back yards.

My instincts are in-line with many of you. I think the spot was the target, I don't think the girls were specifically sought after. I feel like it'd be much easier to hang out on the access road and see what comes by, than to convince the two girls to go there/leave, or follow them and just happen by that area... and leave no evidence.

TY to all the locals!!

Where would someone take them? From the map I don't see that there's a clear way out for a random attack - at least not by the houses.

Earlier today Ollipop posted really good photos of the trail where the bikes were found, the adjacent woods that show a dirt path that you cannot see on google and how that leads to the grassy area where a vehicle could possibly pull into, they start around #136...worth looking at

I have a tale of two girls riding bikes on a nature trail and meeting up with a very unsavory perp. It happened to me and a friend, back in 1973 or so, outside of City Island, the Bronx, New York. We decided to take our bikes out on a summer day on a long trail that must have been 10 miles or so each way. For the most part the trail ran along a fairly busy road, but would bend into the woods in a couple if areas. It was very scenic. We turned a corner into the woods and a man stepped out into our paths with a knife and we both got off our bikes. He led us further into the woods, and exposed himself (he was jerking off actually) We did prove to be a little more than he could handle, my girlfriend pretended to be sick to her stomach, and I started crying and yelling at him. Pretty soon he tired of his game with us and told us to stay there and he left. We ran the other way (further into the woods), through some muck and climbed up the side of a bridge where we were spotted by a police car, who took us around to see if we could find the guy. Nothing more really ever came of it. I was about 12 at the time. Also, quite heavy - close to Lyrics height and weight, and even so, I was extremely athletic and active. I'm not heavy now, but I am a lot less fit!
So, I do understand how a person can just take advantage of a situation and grab two girls riding their bikes in a semi wooded and semi visible trail.. The same thing happened to me, but looks like I had a much better ending than these poor girls did.

For all those WS's that are surprised/doubtful that a perp would go after TWO girls...there are quite a number of missing friends/siblings etc. who went missing together and LE suspects foul play. Just take a look at the "Gone but not Forgotten" section. There is even one that I remember where 3 girls went missing under suspicious circumstances.
So some perps don't care. Maybe it even gives them an advantage because the kids might have a false sense of safety since they are with a friend. JMO

Hoping for the best for Elizabeth and Lyric.

There are houses on one side of the lake, and the interstate is on the other. I've never seen a boat on the lake. Granted, I've only lived here a year and only drive by it probably 1-3 times a week, I've never seen a boat, and I'm not sure why a boat would go on it, as it isn't very big.

Other locals: Do you think Aunt Tammy may be "off" on her distances? On JVM she'd say "It was about 300 yards that way and then 300-500 yards..." that's 3-5 football fields! I don't really think that area is that big? Am I way off base here? For her to say the dogs ran 300-500 yards into the wooded area seemed really far off to me.

For sure. If she is talking about the wooded area between the trail and where south Evans turns into arbutus, she's talking about a space as long as a residential lot at best. I'd say 30 yards maybe.

I saw an aerial map of the bike trail, lake and freeway on the west & houses in the south-east, but no access road. Can you tell me in what direction is this access road?

Can any of our wonderful locals say if its common to have transients/homeless/drifters in the area? I'd imagine in a town this small...you'd recognize someone who is "out of place" or is it common to have non-residents pass thru frequently?

yes there are transients/homeless/drifters in the area. I myself placed a tip that my teenager and some friends were "lured" back to his "sleeping place" in some woods in evansdale a week and a half or 2 weeks prior to the girls turning up missing. stopped my heart in my chest when my child told me about it.

Just answered all this on JVM. Wylma has custody of the children of Misty. Misti and Daniel are separated and have been for awhile....he's currently addicted to meth. He lives with his mother, Vicki. This all per Tammy B, Misti's sister that Jane was interviewing. Hope someone is recording it.

I find it curious that the grandmother has temporary custody of Lyric and her brother. Why wouldn't Misty have custody of her own children? I would have expected that even if she was temporarily living with her mother.

ETA: this makes more sense given the subsequent post about Misty's conviction.

In the West Memphis 3 murders, sickos managed to get control of three little boys in the woods and torture/kill them. :furious:

To add to my post up thread, if it is someone they know, there is no doubt both would have been taken. The perp would not leave a witness behind to identify him/her.

Also, we have to keep an open mind. The perp can be a woman! Sandra Cantu and Victoria Stafford were both lured by women!

In her state, she may have meant and envisioned feet, but stated yards. I had to laugh, because I just saw an episode of Are You Smarter Than a Fifth-grader with a math question, and the woman thought a yard was 300 feet. They may not watch football.

If I knew I was telling the whole truth and a detective accused me of "holding back" I would feel I was being treated like a suspect, too.

Especially keeping in mind that he's probably not like us crime afficionados on WS and doesn't realise this is just standard operating procedure when a child disappears. He probably has no idea at all what to expect.

He was at his mother's house with his 16 year old son (Lyric's brother) during the time period in question. Unless it is assumed that both his mother and his son would lie to cover up his whereabouts and could lie convincingly to LE, I think he isn't guilty.

It also could be a teenager or group of teens.

Meth addiction is horrific This could be related to everything that goes along with it...the addiction itself. A trial.A plea deal. Anything, anything at all could have happened to these children... MOO

I know due to the bikes being found so close to the lake in the summertime, accidental drowning would be the most likely outcome. I also understand the family must be looked at closely and ruled out. I realize stranger abductions are rare. I honestly think, in this case it fits.

There's no doubt LE was aware of Lyric's mom & dad's criminal history very early on. I agree, LE has to check out all angles. My fear is that something terrible has happened to these girls. I trust LE but I worry that something of importance may have been overlooked because the lake or the family looked much more likely avenues to find the girls.

The one thing which sticks out to me are the number of times I've read (here and other comments) that this is a secluded portion of the bike trail that many people feel very uncomfortable about.

Praying and leaving my porch light on for these girls.

I've been thinking about how they might be lured into the bushes. I can come up with a couple of scenarios. Someone quietly calling out for help or someone imitating kitten sounds. Just a thought.
