Christians can get caught up in bad things also. This is definitely a situation that could bring God back into the center of their focus instead of the meth. I just watched a show on how horrible, how destructive and how addictive it is. :(. I see in these two people, possibly regret. They wasted time with a drug instead of being with their daughter. Now she is gone. If it where me, I would be so guilt ridden because of my lack as a parent, or because of the time I didn't spend with her or wasted.
IMHO

That is why I said many people in Iowa live their faith "as best they can."

In a previous lifetime, I had a social services type career and I met many people with substance abuse problems who were Christians. They were doing the best they could.

I hope her parents aren't torturing themselves with guilt but I realise they probably are. If not right now then at some later point. And I hope they have people around them to remind them that they weren't the ones who caused whatever happened to Lyric and Elizabeth.

It is my understanding that a blood draw and urinalysis are part of the procedure of doing a lie detector test.

I hope I am never on national TV under stress because I have a habit of licking my lips when nervous. And no, it's not a result of drug use, it's just something I've always done when nervous.

What?????

I don't mean to sound argumentative, but I've never known a standard lie detector test to include drawing blood and taking urine samples. Maybe for known drug users but certainly not for everybody. At least not in this state, AFAIK, unless they've changed the rules and didn't tell me. :waitasec:

As for licking the lips, it's common for smokers or people who have severe sinus or allergy problems which causes dry mouth.
But being nervous and under stress could cause someone to do this, true.

If these girls were to have screamed, is there houses in the trail area in distance to hear them?

I find it hard to believe that just one perp was able to get two unwilling girls. I know it can happen but also given the size (will explain in a minute) of Lyric, i would think a struggle would be hard for one perp. I babysat a girl who is a big girl and only 8 years old. She had a fit one day in the backyard. It took myself and my two older daughters to get her inside the house because she was so loud my neighbors would have complained. She is a bigger girl but wow very strong.

I believe that if they are not in the lake then it was someone they knew.

With the purse on the other side of the fence makes me think that the girls were over there and when trouble came they tried to run back to their bikes but didn't make it. Being 2 perps to grab the girls. JMO

But my mind is boggled as to why were the girls so far from home and were they known to go that far and did they know of this trail?

MCM works for Casey's which is a large gas/food store chain, I would think they do drug testing prior to hire. Her arrests were over 9 years ago...

Souldnt we be hearing something about the lake search today?

Has anyone searched the river? It is really close and on the other side on the fence.

Is there anyway to go under the highway ? A large drainage pipe maybe?

If they were abducted ,would a person seeing them enter the trail know to drive over to the grassy area to catch them? There route of travel would have been easy to guess given the design of the trail.

Heard to be on the lookout for someone who might of abducted two girls when nothing has been said about anything suspicious other then the bikes being left there and the girls missing. No cars, no reports of oddness which is strange because all the stuff being called in on the scanner fed makes me pretty sure the people are aware of the activity in there area.

I wonder if they reveiwed the scanner feed on monday -friday before the girls disapeared ,if they would find a few tips on there.

I am wondering about a boyfriend.

OT Just noting something I noticed during her last interview. She was pretty "interested" in the young reporter in the white shirt with sunglasses and burred head holding the mike. I was getting a kick out of it watching her sneak peeks. IMO, JMO, etc

SBM

My impression came from a friend who underwent a polygraph as part of a criminal investigation in Iowa in the 1980s. It was not a drug-related investigation nor did she have any substance abuse problems. She was told that it was part of the usual procedure.

So I should have been more careful about what I said. I should have qualified that my information is about 25 years old and from Iowa. The law (or case law) could have changed procedures since then.

It does seem like a common sense precaution for a criminal investigation, though. Especially since no one can be compelled to take a polygraph and anyone undergoing one is free to leave at any point.

I remember during the Adam Mayes case it was stated the FBI has some type of arrangements with billboard companies to assist in these instances.

Here is the link to an article about using billboards to find missing children:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation...nges-searches-for-missing-children/54444384/1

"The Outdoor Advertising Association of America works with the operators of about 3,200 digital billboards nationwide to post messages about missing children. Most of those billboard operators have agreed to take down advertising messages and post details about a missing child or suspect when a local AMBER Alert arises, said Nicole Hayes, a spokeswoman for the association."

The problem with this case is, there has been no AMBER alert, so it might be difficult to get a billboard for them at this time.

I know I should remember this from other cases but would appreciate if someone could answer for me.

I understand the FBI was here on Saturday. Is that common procedure in a missing child case (especially when there is no Amber Alert) ? I'm assuming local LE requested the FBI's help on Sat?

Thank you.

Praying this is the day!

It is not unusual to see the FBI involved in cases like this from the start. We've seen it more and more, while they try to figure out what they have. Whether or not there is an Amber Alert does not seem to come into, as far as I can tell.

I live only about 30 minutes from Evansdale (and brand new to this board) but this is just gut wrentching to me.

I have been following the boards patiently waiting to be able to post so this may be long - but I have a few questions regarding the information we have been given regarding the case - and some questions:

Some of the focus seems to be on Lyric's questionable upbringing - however this isn't really "her" neighborhood...correct? Evansdale is where Elizabeth lives, right? So - the liklihood of someone "following" them, could be MORE apt to have been following Elizabeth, and not Lyric? Someone following Lyric, would MORE LIKELY be from the Waterloo area, as her joining Elizabeth with her Grandma on these daily visits has only been in recent weeks, correct?

I hope if they believe this is somehow linked to Lyric that they aren't looking for someone in Evansdale - but also focused on Waterloo connections.

The other thing that has me baffled is that the parents of these girls had stated in an early interview (Lyric's parents anyway) that these girls (paraphrasing) "didn't ever go to this lake" and "probably didn't even know the way there or that it existed".
YET - you have a neighbor (witness who was watering the lawn) who stated that he saw these girls (or at least Elizabeth) almost daily - in the area. How does that work? I don't believe this gentlemen (and his wife) would say such a thing if he wasn't certain it was her (Elizabeth). Does this mean that they HAD been going there frequently (unbeknownst to the family) and could have been meeting up with someone recently? Grandma had mentioned that they took bike rides daily - and would return within an hour or so. Could they make it to the lake and back (with time to "hang out") in an hour?

I just don't know what to believe as far as an abduction:
On one hand, I believe strongly it was someone they knew (or at least felt they could trust). With it being hot out I can see someone easily saying "hey...let's go grab some water and I will bring ya back here - just leave your bikes - we will be right back".
Yet- the purse over the fence doesn't fit that bill. It more than likely would have gone with her OR would have been left right there next to the bike.

Where exactly was the purse found? I've heard the purse was back in the wooded area, as well as on the inside of the fence by the jetty.
