I'm thinking that it was a resident who noticed their RV was "missing" as in stolen and not that the perp was driving around in his own RV. If the missing RV pertains to the missing girls at all. And someone should know a license plate # and hopefully they can put out a BOLO.

Any mention of where the $50k reward came from? That's a pretty good amount. Some druggies have major cash, wondering if they are trying to entice someone with a nice payday?

I wouldn't string LE up yet. Just talked to one of my good friends, LEO here in Pittsburgh, who says that press conferences aren't held necessarily for the public, but for The perp. He said LE is deliberate in both what they say a d what they do not. Also said that good LEO's are always 5 steps ahead of the public. They often claim to have no credible leads, when, in fact, they do. He also said its quite possible they aren't publicly and unequivocally clearing the family for one of two reasons: 1. They may actually feel that a member or members of the family may be involved or 2. They are putting on a show for the perp. If the perp(s) are following the case, they may be less inclined to hurt the kids if they do not feel threatened. Meanwhile, the police may be closing in. Just some insight from a LEO.

You make a good point. Abben said he's be out of town over the weekend and Sandy Breault would be taking over while he was gone. Let the perp think things are easing up and maybe he'll make a move. Was it a strategic move to put a female in charge? Less threatening to a perp?

If they did in fact say something about a missing RV - it could also be that people noticed an RV gone that had been parked somewhere along a road previously for some time but don't know who it belonged to. Not necessarily a stolen RV.

Since its now an abduction, is LE going to caution people in regards to keeping their children under a close watchful eye. There is at last one kidnapper out there and a good possibility that it is a local person.

Considering that people in my tiny town 90 miles southwest of Evansdale clearly have their kids on tight lockdown, I'm not sure such a warning would do any good. If people are not already taking strict precautions, I doubt an official announcement would inspire them to do so.

I don't know if a female is less threatening. Great question! I will ask!

The only thing I could tell from the question was the officer was aware of the RV topic .

It was right at the question and answer part of the pressor towards the end.

I saw another poster say that they heard it when I asked if anyone else had really just 2 of us???

I think I am going to start video taping them....

IMO, Lyrics parents made bad people friends (drugs & jail) and bad people enemies from drug trials, money??? & jail.
This is what I do not trust.
Any person (people) that they may of made mad or who had their eyes on a developing little girl.
If it is for money??? they have 2 little girls for sale. KWIM?
Revenge? well it could turn into a very bad situation.
If it was for attention to parents, then it went to huge, what does this person do next?
Let the girls go?
Wonder if they can ID person(s).
I am so afraid for Elizabeth and Lyric! JMOO

Respectfully!!! I just want to clarify from my previous posts. I in no way think the lake search was a waste of time, nor do I think that LE just sat at the lake with picnic baskets and did nothing else. My gripe was mostly towards what I felt IMO was a lack of local and nationwide ALERT by LE. If anyone can give me a good reason why they couldn't have said earlier on that this was a possible abduction (considering they had no real viable reason that it wasn't), I'll gladly reconsider my feelings.

It may or may not help but IMO it's the least LE could do after making the lake and a possible drowing the main focus for a week.

I think one of the sites has video of all the old pressers. I will look.

I hope you know I didn't mean she was any less able. But it can cause a different perception of threat to a perp. I look forward to hearing how she phrases her words in future pressers.

He is exactly right. Funny how so many think they know how an investigation should be run, isn't it? Many do not realize that the detectives take their orders from their supervisors, they don't do anything without approval. They are far better trained than we are and have way more sources than we do.

But given that they know now they didn't drown in the lake, how exactly can anyone say they wasted time? That's out of the way, they can concentrate more manpower on finding them. NOTHING they do in any investigation is a waste of time, if it gets them one step closer to solving the case.

As I understand it, probably not due to a lack of information about how or who the girls may be with.

It seems like Amber Alerts go out when there is some sort of associated evidence the public can watch for, such as a white van (sorry, couldn't resist), a tall blond man or some such information.

I could be wrong and I hope I am.

You're absolutely right on this. There has to be evidence the child is in harm's way and an abductor or vehicle description.

And I apologize if I'm echoing someone who answered this before me. To tell the truth, I've been gone all day and am just now seeing comments that this is NOW an abduction and I'm really befuddled. HOW CAN WE WAIT A WEEK TO FOCUS ON THIS PART? (I know all the lake stuff, I'm just upset).

Sorry to yell in your comment area! I'm. Just. Sick.

I completely agree, I am a mandatory reporter...The girl is 18 years old, as I taught her in her home- ( she was home schooled )I did have her write a police report, I urged her in every way to turn it into the police.. to go to the police herself and or to go with her, oh, and I reported it to my boss, and re-reported it when the person txted ( i was a witness to the random txting). It still bothers me a lot.
:-(

I am so sorry.

I honestly had no intention to accuse; I was hoping I'd thought of something you hadn't. I hope I was clear enough in my post.

I wonder if it was just the parents or if maybe your student felt a bit of the bravado of youth and thought she could handle it all by herself.

ETA: my 22 year old niece lives with me and there are times I wish I had something akin to a can opener so I could check inside her skull to figure out what she's thinking... or, indeed, if there is any activity going on in there at all.

She's very intelligent and she's a wonderful girl but wow... parenting a late adolescent is not easy for this childless old fogey.

I wish you would record them. I can never hear anything. Of course except the commercial in the beginning. jmo

Wishbone, that was one of the things that puzzled my LEO friend. He said generally, if there is even the slightest possibility that an abduction has occurred in an area, LE will warn in such a way as not to provoke an outright panic. He thought it was a little bit irresponsible to say there was no threat to other kids...it gives people a false sense of security. And it is their duty to protect the public.

And I do believe an announcement should be made if it could make the difference in saving one child. Obviously, LE is finding it necessary to warn people now.
