At 3:28 in the video a female reporter asks about Misty Morrissey's cell phone - maybe said RV after that, but not sure. Still listening.

Wishbone, that was one of the things that puzzled my LEO friend. He said generally, if there is even the slightest possibility that an abduction has occurred in an area, LE will warn in such a way as not to provoke an outright panic. He thought it was a little bit irresponsible to say there was no threat to other kids...it gives people a false sense of security. And it is their duty to protect the public.

And I do believe an announcement should be made if it could make the difference in saving one child. Obviously, LE is finding it necessary to warn people now.

The reason I'm so upset about this is because unless you are following the case as I have been you could be under the assumption that LE was dragging and draining a lake because they believed two little girls might have drowned. There was just a short news story about this case on my local news here in Texas and if I didn't know what had happened this last week I would be under the impression that LE just realized today that the girls were abducted because the lake draining didnt produce any bodies. Sorry if I'm not making myself clear........

I agree with you, Wishbone. The police did a disservice to the community in that respect. If people felt that there was such an effort to find drowned girls in the lake, their kids might be safe playing in the yard...meanwhile, there is an abduction that had taken place.

Perfectly CLEAR! Same as here in CA (which in a week they could make it this far) Almost no one knew what I was talking about and those that did responded with "Didn't they drown in a lake"...or assumed they had drowned because "didn't they go missing while swimming in the lake"

I'm afraid it does matter. If it didn't matter what they called it...they wouldn't feel the need to change it now. By no means do I think what they were doing behind the scenes or what they did at the lake was a waste of time. However, not considering this an abduction....meant there was really no widespread alert to be on the look out for these girls. (LE stated several times there was no danger) Most people I've spoken to about this (who are not "sleuthers") either new nothing about it or thought the girls were in the lake after some sort of drowning accident.

IMO and from what I know from following a vast number of these cases...the only time I've ever seen LE search a body of water this exstensively and NOT ruled that it could also be an abduction was when someone had actually seen the child/children fall in the water...or at least knew for a fact that the child/children had went swimming. By ALL accounts from the many locals we have here....every one of them has said it was not a lake people swim in. Nor did LE have anyone that said they saw the girls go in the water.

Again, I think perhaps it's an Iowa thing.

I live in Iowa and I haven't talked to anyone in my area (90 miles southwest of Evansdale) who isn't on the alert for those two girls. I have seen for myself that it's like kids have evaporated; either they are with adults in close attendance or you just don't see them.

And today it's definitely not the weather. It's 5:30 pm Iowa time as I type this, which is usually the warmest part of the day. It's 84 degrees, relatively low humidity, sunny with a nice breeze. Gorgeous weather to be outside and normally there would be kids galore in town and my neighbour's kids would be zipping around on their ATVs, doing chores and playing.

Not today.

When I lived in Iowa City, there were many occasions when LE had the river level dropped drastically so that they could search for a potential drowning victim. There were often witnesses who saw the person go in but on at least two occasions, they did it just in case (a missing student in the 1970s) and once when an overturned rowing scull was seen going over the dam (the occupant had gone into the water way back in Coralville and not bothered to notify LE that the scull had gotten away from them).

So draining the pond didn't seem so strange to me. It could be done relatively easily, it didn't substantially hinder LE and for everyone's peace of mind, it had to be done.

And heck, the Cedar River is low right now, the communities downstream probably welcomed a dab of extra water.

The focus all week has been on the lake-people across this country thought they were in there. Now look at all the media headlines in the last hr!!

Exactly!!My local news just said no bodies were found so now it's an abduction, like that was never a possibility until now, a whole week after they go missing!

Just a comment about those upset about a "wasted week."

This morning, before the lake scan, the girls were already listed on the FBI's list of missing and abducted persons. It's semantics. Think about it. They had already set up the vehicle check plan, before the lake work was done today. They were focused on the Friday traffic pattern. That's part of a parallel investigation.

You're absolutely right on this. There has to be evidence the child is in harm's way and an abductor or vehicle description.

And I apologize if I'm echoing someone who answered this before me. To tell the truth, I've been gone all day and am just now seeing comments that this is NOW an abduction and I'm really befuddled. HOW CAN WE WAIT A WEEK TO FOCUS ON THIS PART? (I know all the lake stuff, I'm just upset).

Sorry to yell in your comment area! I'm. Just. Sick.

I am sure they have been focusing on this part. They just haven't told us.

Not to say most parents most parents were not already being vigilant and more attentive, but an official announcement from the police carries a great deal of weight.

I dunno I just heard the reporter ask

"can you tell us anything about the missing RV."

and the answer was something like " I cant comment on that".

Do they leave links up for the press releases they film? because I want to post and tag it for later .

Oh my! :what: I'm afraid to read past this page.

I listened to the entire presser again and did not hear anything about a missing RV.

The reporter asked about his cellphone and RV almost in same sentence. Very hard to make out though. Something about the RV yesterday was all i could here.

I hope you know I didn't mean she was any less able. But it can cause a different perception of threat to a perp. I look forward to hearing how she phrases her words in future pressers.

I noticed last night that Chief Deputy Rick Abben has a rather steely-eyed aspect. Like a teacher who sees it all and keeps firm control of the kids in his classroom.

This is not a criticism, I don't mean it negatively (I think it's a good quality for LE and teachers!) but a change up can sometimes put the target off pace.

Interesting thought.

That is all fine and dandy, but John Q Public has been under the impression that a lake was being scoured for a week because two little girls drowned. I'm not talking about locals living in a small town, I'm sure they have seen all the LE activity going on this last week. I'm speaking about how this has been preceived by non locals.

Maybe if Jim S is there-he can tell us what was said-he comes here often doesn't he?

FYI - Jim Spellman tweeted this morning that he got called out to the Colorado massacre. He's not in Iowa anymore. :(

I apologize if this is a repost. I don't think I've ever seen a judge do this.

Judge puts dad of one missing Iowa girl under supervision

Personally, I think they are trying out "strong arm tactics" on him. I also thought I heard they had new, more evidence against him - which I wonder was gotten in the voluntary searches the families have undergone? The fact that he and his ex wife were 100% cooperative in the beginning is truly outstanding, considering both of them have a lot at stake legally. In this case, I think both parents clearly WERE putting Lyric's interests above their own. I know I see things much differently than some of you all, but to me I give these folks a lot of credit for putting themselves out there for all, including LE, to see. It is not every day that you find people entangled in crime and legal problems agreeing voluntarily to take a poly, and to let LE search their homes without warrants. Very very hard for me to imagine that they are guilty of harming Lyric.
