So if they aren't considering him credible, are they considering him suspicious? Why did he see bikes at 12:20 and then was back on the trail at 4pm to tell police? He doesn't live in Evansdale, so why was he hanging out there for 3-1/2 hours?

I guess if the police aren't considering 12:20 as part of the timeline, then we shouldn't either.

Thank you for posting this. I am wondered the same. If he saw the bikes at 12:20, was he still there at 3 or 4? I didn't read anywhere, where he had gone home - heard they were missing - and then called back in to police (or went to police). Maybe I'm confused.:blushing:

So...they want to interview a paddleboater who may have witnessed whatever happened at the lake ...Okay, but who saw the paddleboater? Sounds like they are trying to confirm sighting of another witness...or what?

Chris Essig at the Courier says that as of Friday, the police were not aware of a biker that saw the bikes at 12:20. That biker was known only to the media, not the police. WHAT?!?! I just had this conversation with him on Twitter:

@Leadfoot_LA:
Girls in vid 12:15; Bikes spotted @lake 12:20. REPORTERS - pls ask Abben if they think girls could ride 1.5 mi in 5 min. #evansdalesearch

@CourierEssig:
@Leadfoot_LA It was brought up Fri. Abben wasn't aware a biker (who spoke with us) saw the bikes at 12:20 #evansdalesearch

@Leadfoot_LA:
@CourierEssig Surely they have questioned him by now, right? It needs to be asked again. #evansdalesearch

There is a pic with him speaking to police here

Cook-Morrissey says she was told a polygraph test she took last week came back inconclusive but that she passed Monday's test. She says she made peace with investigators, who "can rule me out of their book and move on to something else."

Or perhaps one of the lakefront homewners did not recall seeing the girls but did recall seeing a paddleboater at around the time of day LE is interested in. Will be interesting to find out where this paddleboater lead came from alright.

I believe that the cyclist told police on Monday (16th) that he remembered seeing bikes on the trail (swerved to avoid them actually) at 12:20pm ish on Friday, July 13th. A searching fireman found the bikes leaning up against the fence at 4:00pm on the 13th and directly notified LE.

Do they actually say, “congratulations, you’ve passed with flying colors”? I’ve not had the dubious pleasure of undergoing a polygraph…

Things that are bothering me:

1) The biker who saw the bikes on the trail at 12:20 left after seeing them. Why did he go back at 4:00 to tell the cops he saw the bikes? Was it that widely/publicly known by 4pm that the girls were missing? Where was he between 12:20 and 4:00?

2) The family says the girls never rode as far as the lake, but when they discovered them missing, they went to look for them AT THE LAKE. Why go there first if the girls never go that far? Tammy even said on Nancy Grace that DC backed his truck in to turn around on that trail. She placed his tire tracks at the scene. This is weird to me.

3) Misty is listed on FB as single; Dan is listed as married. Misty has a boyfriend. Until a few days ago, Dan and Misty had a no-contact order because he tried to strangle her in 2011. So what was Misty doing sleeping with Dan in a hotel room when police came to question them?

4) Why would a kidnapper take the girls in the middle of that tunnel section of the trail? It seems that is the WORST place to kidnap them. You would have to walk OUT of the tunnel section, which means you would have to talk the girls into following you out of it, and you would risk running into someone on your way out. Seems like it would be MUCH easier for a stranger to just pull up his car next to them in the parking lot or along the road.

I am not trying to accuse anyone of anything with the above 4 questions. I’m just stating things that have been baffling me, that I would like answers to. Answers to these questions might provide clues to help us solve the case.

1) The bicyclist who saw the bikes shortly before 12:27 pm did not go to the lake to tell the police; he called LE later after he heard that the girls were missing. News travels fast in small town Iowa.

2) Earlier, the family said they checked a couple other places before they went to Meyer's Lake. Evansdale is a small town. There's just not that many places to check. LE swarmed Meyer's Lake because a man in the parking lot told family he thought he'd seen the girls there.

3) Not my business, I don't know and I won't be sleuthing them unless they become persons of interest according to LE. I haven't even seen msm confirmation that Misty has a boyfriend. How do we know he isn't her mother's boyfriend, since Misty lives with her mother? Never mind, I don't want to know.

4) After looking at multiple pictures and video of the area, particularly Ollipop's excellent pics, I think it's a great place to abduct someone. I'd be looking for a place like that if I were a predator.

It's out of sight of the rest of the area. The space is restricted, so it's easy for someone to just reach out and grab someone passing by.

The road noise from I-380 muffles sound; traffic is heavy and continuous on I-380.

There's a place where a vehicle can be parked back in the woods where it would not be visible either from Arbutus Avenue or from the lake area.

Many victims freeze and become compliant when confronted, particularly with a weapon. In this case, all a perp had to do to control both girls is get a firm grip on one and threaten her with a weapon. Wouldn't even have to be a gun, something like an ice pick, screwdriver or box cutter would be even more effective.

If the victim struggles, the perp can let them go, wait until they are out of sight, then go back to their vehicle, which is hidden. Just another lost opportunity.

That one little stretch of bike path reminds me very much of a place in Iowa City. It's a pedestrian tunnel off Iowa Avenue under the train overpass. It is close to but not right next to the street. It's only maybe 30 feet long but since it is set at an angle to the road, drivers cannot see the last 6-8 feet of the tunnel.

There are streetlights on Iowa Avenue, which make it look like a well lit area. But until fairly recently, there were no lights on the other side of the tunnel and the walls of the tunnel cast a shadow that was even darker by contrast.

I know of at least 4 rapes that took place there. It doesn't look all that dangerous and thousands of university students go through it every day. But come night, there's that one little patch of darkness, the heavy traffic going by muffles sounds and it is apparently a great place to commit a rape.

ETA: I was wrong about the bicyclist; it turns out he did approach LE at the lake on that particular day.

Reporters will probably ask about it at today's presser.

Snipped

The mom of one of the two missing Iowa cousins says she went through a lengthy polygraph test that should prove that she had nothing to do with their disappearance.

FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault (broh) declined comment.

So everyone knew about the biker who saw the bikes at 12.20-but the police did not-is that correct?
What time is the presser?
TIA

Chief Deputy Rick Abben said he did not know of the bicyclist.

That doesn't mean LE didn't know, just that Rick Abben didn't know.

Hi all. Not sure that my remote message made it on here yesterday, so I'll try again. I've been off the grid for a week but came back to see there were some pm's regarding this case and questions about what the dogs did. If there are still questions I'd be happy to try and answer.

FBI spokeswoman Sandy Breault said Monday that investigators want to interview a person who was paddleboating on the lake around the time the girls disappeared. She said that person, who has not voluntarily come forward, could help investigators learn what happened to the girls but was not considered a suspect.

"They believe that person has information," she said. "They really do need to talk with the person."

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/...elizabeth-collins-paddleboater_n_1694893.html

I am so hoping this person comes forward and even more, hopeful that maybe, just maybe (s)he saw something useful to the investigation.

Obviously they've had a lead that a paddle boater was on the lake on Friday.

Given the inherent unreliability of witness testimony, I think there's a chance that it was someone who was paddle boating on Thursday, the day before.

If that is so, then of course they wouldn't come forward because they know they were on the lake on Thursday, not Friday.

Waaaay behind on this one, sorry. Do they rent paddleboats (where they would keep a log of when they were out) or is it just bring your own?

Hi Sarx! Thanks for your help!

I have a question. This family says that the fbi had their dogs walk by all of them standing in a line before they sent them on the search for each of the girls' scents.

Is this standard practice?

Ok, thank you all you wonderful posters! Now I see that the man on the bike did not tell police that same day that he had seen the bikes at 12:20 and swerved to miss them. He told police on MONDAY, not Friday.

Which leads me to a new question --
Why in the world did he wait until Monday?

And why aren't the police considering him credible enough to make this part of the timeline?
