My thoughts on the paddle boater. Someone (perhaps lakefront homeowner) when interviewed by LE mentioned seeing a person on the lake in a paddleboat that afternoon during the time LE suspect girls were at lake. Odds are this person saw nothing helpful, but LE must speak with the individual to determine that.

I just wish I could figure out why they are being so very cryptic about the sex/age of potential witness.

Okay. This is the last straw for me. Can someone, anyone provide a reason, any plausible reason why the message was on his phone for 9 days before he listened to it? I'm sure police had their phones for a certain period, but seriously, I know that certain period at best was hours after he found out she was missing. Damn, I hope there hasn't been any knocks on the door that they haven't answered, or mysterious unopened letters they have received during this same time period. I am at a loss!!!!!

No kidding, there is no good reason why this message was not known until 9 days later. Fishy

His wife is ill, his daughter is missing and he has several other children in the home. His phone was probably ringing off the hook after the news broke with everything from well wishers to hang ups. Perhaps he just could not bear to deal with any of it. He and Heather have stayed completely silent (publicly) for the entire first week the girls were gone, as compared to Lyric's parents who were very present in the media during that period.

I suspect that he and Heather simply were not strong enough to handle the immediate glare and demands of dealing with the public, press and probable hundred calls. Then LE have their phones for a bit for forensic analysis.

I do find it odd, but not necessarily sinister or unbelievable.

I haven't heard this voicemail message yet (not sure if it was played to the public or not?) and haven't read it contents - does anyone happen to have a link handy so I can find it?

What was in the purse? The lake, go to the lake.... Who has a "van"? What errands?

I have a whole new perspective.

Care to share?

I hadn't heard that swimming is not allowed at this lake. Is it a reservoir?

From The Des Moines Register on July 17, 2012:

http://www.desmoinesregister.com/ar...tigators-bring-dogs-search-missing-Iowa-girls

'For Tim Roney, 60, it’s hard to recall a time when Evansdale has received the amount of attention it has this week. Roney said he recalls swimming in Meyers Lake in the 1960s. At that time it was a smaller, stream-fed lake, he said. “You don’t go swimming there now, or you’ll get leeches.” ' :gasp:

As we discuss paddleboats, I'm reminded that an open fence might invite an angler to stop and try his luck. If that gap has been there any length of time, someone might stop frequently to fish that lake.

I think it's more likely that the abductor saw opportunity and jumped at the chance. I do not think we have a case of someone hiding on the trail in the hope that two young girls might come pedaling down the pavement.

Therefore, thinking of reasons an individual might stop at that spot is an important step.

Does anyone have a link where it was reported that Lyric had her own cell phone? I can only remember Misty mentioning something about Lyric using her Grandmother's cell phone to call her mother.

dang it, having trouble locating link but it was in the video portion of a newslink that was posted several pages back within this thread.

If I get a moment I will try to track it down.

When did they start asking for the boater to come forward? Just wondering if this is a case where several days had passed. When that's the case people start confusing days and if you were the boater and it was actually Thurs. that you were on the lake you wouldn't think to call and say "oh, that was me, but it wasn't on Fri." you would just assume they were talking about someone else. KWIM?

The lake was not the first place they looked. Evansdale is a small town. They checked up and down neighboring streets, checked parks and other areas that may have been attractive to the girls and then headed towards the lake although they did not really think the girls would have gone that far. They were at the lake simply because they were running out of places to look.

Don't have the link, but wasn't it reported by Tammy or Gma, that LE took their CARS on the trail in looking for the girls. If that is true, then why did it take them an hour to find the bikes? I could slow jog that trail in less than 10 minutes. The 16 yo son of HC could have run it much faster I'm sure. IMO

NG transcript:

GRACE: Did Lyric have a cell phone?

COOK-MORRISSEY: She has a cell phone that was at my mother`s, so she didn`t have one on her, no.

Note: "was at my mothers". I bet police have it now for sure.

I just listened to Elizabeth's message on her Dad's phone.

The message is from the day before she went missing.

It doesn't have anything to do with her going missing, unless she did not normally phone her Dad, or leave messages saying "I miss you".

I thought the dogs should work the place last seen also. And if LE doesn't have the right dogs for this, sometimes they don't, then maybe LE could bring in some coonhounds trained from another state - sometimes a good coonhound can pick up scent even in the city that is weeks old.

I thought they had brought in dogs from the FBI? Between agencies and NASAR dogs (of all breeds) there are plenty of options out there, so hopefully it's just the typical scenario of them doing it and us not hearing about it. Happens all the time. I was just curious if anyone had heard about it.

within the last few days sarx. your hypothesis is plausible.

I've heard lots about dogs working the area around the bicycles. Does anyone know if the dogs worked from the PLS (place last seen), which I believe is somewhere different correct?
I haven't heard anything about using dogs at the site of the video footage near the grandma's house.

I wonder why they haven't done that...to see how far they may have ridden.

Would it be a problem to track them if they played and rode their bikes on these streets every day?

Sarx, LE just started to request that the boater come forward Sunday, July 22 nd.

IMO, LE has known about this paddle boater since the beginning of the case.

Releasing the paddle boater info right now is very deliberate, IMO.

The paddle boater has made themselves scarce, possibly.

They have not come forward.

Yes, I agree the message is unrelated to the abduction but certainly bittersweet and heartbreaking for Heather and Drew. Finding the message a full 9 days post abduction is being questioned by some sleuths. I myself find it odd but not sinister. Others find it less than believable - "how do you not check your messages when your child is missing??"

MOO Drew and Heather are hangin on by a thread. Whatever was going on in life before this abduction (health issues, kids, job, financial, whatever) seems to have really taken its toll on that couple and I think they have been struggling to cope.
