Is there a press conference today I've not found any links yet? Thanks.

From what I have read and heard, Lyric did not attempt to run away days before going missing. She and another cousin (maybe TB's daughter, I don't recall) went to the park down the road from the cousin's home and did not return home when expected. The adults searched for them at the park, did not find them there and just after calling police to report them missing, the girls turned up. They had lost track of time, reportedly.

This is reported to have happened 4 days prior to Lyric and Elizabeth were abducted.

The "running away" was a different incident than the staying out too long. Lyric packed a bag and grandma stopped her as she was going by and talked with her and calmed her down. But she had packed and said she was running away, so it was on her mind. I believe she was upset over being disciplined by her father. MOO JMO :moo:

Thanks Jax49. My internet access is sketchy on weekends to put it mildly. I must have missed the runaway story.

You know I just watched it again and yeah it is real strange that he didn't look at voice mails for 9 days. Maybe when LE is finished with the jailbird parents they can talk to the forgetful parents.
exactly!
:gthanks:

That was actually a separate incident. From KSDK:

Wylma Cook on Wednesday confirmed that Lyric had tried to run away from home several days before the cousins were reported missing. She said Lyric packed a bag after her father got mad at her for not completing her chores.

"She headed for the door, and I grabbed her," Cook said. "She dropped the backpack and I hugged and kissed her and I said it'll be OK."

It must depend on the type of paddle boat. Ours had 4 seats and you could get a 5th person if they sat in the middle.

Not that I'm confident in Mr Paddle Boat's existence.

I'm catching up so sorry if this is way old news, but I think you're picturing the same type of boat I am. The ones you rent at a fair or something are usually two seats and swans (never seen a flamingo or sea monster, though I now hope to!). But the every-day ones I've seen at lakes are very plain, seems like they're usually yellow or orange, 4 seats with a spot in the back a 5th person could sit.

Like you I'm not confident a boat was even there and like someone else said it might just be the worst possible getaway vehicle ever. I'm just trying to think through what people saw, might've seen, and when.

Now I've got an image of some random guy sitting alone in a bird-shaped paddle boat, peddling a mile a minute, but just going around in circles.

LOL! I know it's a serious situation but you gotta laugh sometimes right?? I always learned to avoid guys with candy, kittens, or puppies. Can't say flamingo shaped boats ever came up.

I hadn't heard that swimming is not allowed at this lake. Is it a reservoir?

No, it's a borrow pond.

At least one local has been quoted in MSM (I posted the cite in the last thread) as saying the lake is infested with leeches. Not uncommon in still or low current waters in Iowa and completely disgusting to most people.

Wouldn't the boy who was fishing see the paddle boater? I think a local mentioned before you could see across the lake, unless you were blinded by the island....

I personally think the girls were not lured at all (unless of course it was someone they knew, which it very well could be!), given the time line being so short...I think they were grabbed either by brute force or possibly given very fast acting drugs. I think there were two perps, and they knew inside and out what they were doing. Professionals if you will (awful), I think they have done this before...and I still think they are not drug related due to the skill required to have pulled this off.

I agree that likely Elizabeth was the target for the horrible reasons given before.

I also think there is a lot of smoke screens being used by the LE to keep 1. the public guessing, 2. make the perps think they are fumbling around with no leads and 3. to not cause panic.

I also think there are a lot of "witnesses" coming out of the wood work who are doing it solely for attention, people do insanely weird things for attention or their "five minutes of fame" even lie about seeing things in an abduction case that they didn't see. People confess to murders they didn't commit all the time for the glory....I don't put anything past anyone anymore.

I personally don't think the puppy trick would have played out here, what would the perps do with the puppy while handling the kids? The only thing they could do is stuff it in a bag or let go, so where is it? Did anyone find a lost puppy?

MOO

How many kids phone home to say i love you and miss you? With no other words? Unless shes been away from home for a while? JMO

This seems odd to me too. The only time I get an "I miss you" from any of mine, it is either because they have been away from me visiting other relatives or when they are not feeling quite ok (sick, injured or really sad) and I am off at work. The "I Love You" I get all the time but "I Miss You" just gives me goose bumps.

Why wouldn't LE give the color and possible number of seats? Maybe someone knows someone. But i guess just a paddle boat they feel is good enough info.

Maybe they don't want the paddleboater to feel like he's a suspect. Maybe they KNOW a paddleboater was there and they want to see if he is going to willingly make himself known to LE. Maybe they are trying to appear subdued in their quest for the paddleboater so he won't be scared off.

So many maybes....

I personally think paddleboat man could have been an accomplice. If someone were hiding in the wooded area (where the children's scents were tracked to) and waiting for a potential victim or victims to come along it would be very helpful to him/her to have someone on the lake who could watch the parking lot, play areas, and the trail. They could communicate via cells or walkie-talkies.

Or, LE is simply trying to validate someone's testimony of seeing or speaking to a man in or with a paddleboat.

That's my two potential scenerios for the paddleboat man.

As for using a puppy to lure children, it's been done more than once, I'm sure. How many kids can resist a happy little tail-wagging puppy? And if you were a predator and looking for your next victim, you wouldn't think twice of the extra effort of finding and putting one to use. In their minds, it wouldn't be a problem, considering the "rewards" they will have later. When you consider some of the elaborate plans that serial killers make and carry out, just to find and take their next victims, what would 15 minutes of training a puppy mean to a child predator? Not much trouble at all.

You make a good point. My first thought on this theory was remembering that I was taught "puppy" or "kitten" along with "candy" might be used to lure me as a kid. and if anyone asked me about those, run! Second thought was unfortunately that with the animals especially, it probably would've worked when I was a kid even though I knew better. (heck might even work on a lot of adults). I can see hooking the leash and trying to run away if I was worried but not just running and leaving a 'defenseless' puppy on the trail.
