I am new here, have been following the case since the beginning.
I noticed when DM was in court on the Thursday 7-12-2012 he was not prepared/ready to go to jail THAT day, so they continued it. A deal is made where his time is cut down alot.
The girls go missing the next day.
Maybe DM knew something was going to happen, as he had already ratted out some people, enough to get time off his sentence, and LE wanted him to give them more names?
LE says they KNOW the girls are alive. The big thing in this whole case is the DRUGS, so would it be possible the girls are in some type of a safe house, until the whole drug thing is blown wide open, and then the girls come home, safe?
JMHO and I am thinking out loud.

Im just wondering if Meth was never mentioned, then would you be on a different scenario?

Yes. I would be. I go with what is reported by LE and MSM then try to come up with a possible working theory. I think that is what all of us try to do.

The girls' grandmother, Wylma Cook, said the girls left the Collins home late morning for a bike ride.
She saw them just a short time later behind Lederman’s clothing store. Closed circuit cameras recorded them in that area about 12:15 p.m.

And Abben during the press conference stated that the video confirmed the GMother's time line of when she last saw the girls on their bikes: about 12:15 PM behind the clothing store.

I also remember reading that the surveillance camera might've been off by 8 minutes. I believe it was in an interview w/the owner of one of the stores. I'll try to find it again. If so... take the timestamp of 12:11 (I have to think 12:15 was a "round estimate" that they originally used). Subtract 8 minutes and we're talking 12:03. Add 8 minutes and we're talking 12:19. I can't remember which way they said the clock was off.

If the 12:20ish sighting that had not been confirmed by LE is accurate, 12:03 seems difficult but possible. 12:19 obviously impossible. Of course 12-anything to the official LE timeline of 3:58 is a much larger window.

8 minutes slower than his cell phone - so it would change it from the time stamp of 12:11 to 12:19. (If this is correct - TG could not have seen these bikes on the path!)

IIRC the business owner (Pahl) said it was 8 minutes slower than his cell phone.

Yes!

They were spotted on video within a block of the Collin's house at 12:15, so we know that they were fine until that time. That was the last that they were seen, so something probably happened shortly after 12:15. That leaves 3 hours for a lot to happen.

I remember that a man said that he swerved around a bike, not two bikes, at 12:27. Since that is not part of the official timeline, chances are that the bike he saw is not connected to the missing children.

Is LE absolutely sure it was Lyric and Elizabeth on that video camera? How can they tell for sure with such poor quality?

"Ted Gamerdinger of Waterloo, a bicyclist who said he often rides the Evansdale Nature Trail, has previously told The Courier he saw the two kids’ bikes on the trail at about 12:20 p.m., but no sign of the children."

Why are you so certain it was a stranger abduction?

... not directed at me but ... I'm inclined to think that this was a stranger abduction. People don't kidnap little girls unless they are interested in little girls ... that's usually a stranger-abduction situation that does not end well, but there have been instances where a friend of the family abducted a young girl.

No doubt in my mind this was a personal message to DM for 'narcing' as his mother in law so eloquently put it. Organized drug dealers are ruthless, they deal in death for a living, one way or another. Look at that photo of DM leaning his head against the tree. He looks very tormented. I think the family was warned, thats why they were so quick to call the police last time Lyric was late. The family seemed to know something was going on. Why did they go to the lake looking for the girls if they supposedly never went there? Then why were they so sure they were not there? Why did they mention 'weapons' were used. I don't think this was a "local' job. Organized meth operations have people to protect their interests. Professionals.

I agree, he narced and is paying the ultimate price. He is hurting now and willing to spend any amount of time in prison, on the chance he may get the girls back on his own.

I agree - the timing is vital. All of the articles I read referencing what time the Grandma last saw them said 11:30. Will someone please post where Grandma is quoted or on video saying she saw them after 11:30. I think someone mentioned she looked out the window and saw them or waved at 12:15. I have not seen that and would like to. Tia!

Cook said she is "praying so hard" for the girls' safety while picking over the details of the day she last saw them, when they left for a bike ride at 11:30 a.m.
Cook said Lyric knew she had to return home shortly because Lyric and Cook planned to leave for the home they shared in nearby Waterloo with Lyric's mother, Misty Morrissey, by 1:30 p.m. Cook said she expected the girls to return for lunch or a drink of water or juice as they always did when they were playing in the heat.
"That's what's just so strange about all of it," she said.
Cook said she got nervous when they weren't back by 12:30 p.m. and started driving around town looking for them. After an hour of searching, she returned to the home. Cook said that Misty Morrissey stopped by after getting off work.

Eight-year-old Elizabeth Collins and 10-year-old Lyric Cook were last seen by their grandmother around 11:30 a.m. on Friday when they asked to go for a short bike ride.

Yeah I see kids even pretty young kids with them quite a bit too. Kids that young are usually pretty "energetic" already, do they really need gallons of caffeine and sugar too? (not a comment directed at you Thinkerz, it's just what always runs through my head)

Oh i agree and i don't let my kids drink them but they do try to grab a drink of my oldest daughters as I can't tell her not to drink them, shes older. But i was meaning that kids do like them. Not all kids but some kids.

You're right. I'd forgotten that. Stupid time line is gonna drive all of us to drink............:maddening:

Now if someone would figure out TG(12:20ish doesn't work for me, unless the girls were off the bikes and out of sight) and the 2:30 report of the bikes and girls. :maddening::maddening::maddening::maddening:

Cindersoot (is that from Ever After?) below is the theory you gave, you think it is someone who lives on the lake? Do you have someone specific in mind, or do you think it was a stranger abduction by someone who happened to live on the lake?

I'm in no way trying to argue, I'm just trying to understand where you are coming from and understand why you think that.

I might be a bit jaded because I haven't followed a case yet where the family wasn't either involved in some way or that hasn't been closed because the family doesn't cooperate.

Visited Meyers lake for myself yesterday.
Hi, Im new here, finally got registered. I live in central Iowa about an hour away from Evansdale and have been keeping up on this case since the beginning. Yesterday my husband and I went to Evansdale and I wanted to see for myself the area and I have my own theories. I first found Lyrics grandmas house where the bike ride started and followed it to River forest drive which is like 1000 ft up and turned right, went down Lafayette st, and turned to go down a street to the back of the Big and Tall store and auction house where they were seen on camera. Saw the camera myself, then I went pass Caseys general store and down Lafayette street heading east to a nature tral thats also a bike trail that takes you directly to the spot where the bikes were found at the lake. So they easily could have been on their way to the lake, easily in no time as fast as they were riding. My theory is they met the perp for a boat ride, where the bikes were found is at the east end of the lake along a very closed in tree lined area. I feel it was someone who lives on that small lake. There is a small boat ramp where the bikes where found. I feel he said, "just leave your purse, we will be back". Also I stood at the entrance to the Lake and I was amazed how small and compact the area is. And I might add so very very sad.

Thanks and welcome to WS!!!

I frequently hear the idea thrown around in other cases (e.g., Aliayah) that the missing child could be in hiding somewhere, but it usually seems to me to be clearly a result of imaginative stretching to avoid the more obvious conclusion that nobody wants to face.

This may be the first case I've followed where I am seriously entertaining the possibility that these girls could be in hiding somewhere. I think it's still not the most likely scenario, but it's on my list of possibilities.

I hope the bicycle tires are being analyzed. The grandma and other family members say they don't know of the girls ever going there. I read somewhere that the path is gravel. This gravel should be imbedded in the tires (even if just tiny particles). This could determine if the bikes were road there or placed there.

One thing that is troubling to this case is that family members converged to this area to search BEFORE LE was able to get there. This puts their tire tracks and their scents there...not good for investigators or tracking dogs.

If the sightings of the girls are true and it was the girls, then Grandma IMO was lying that she told the girls to be back as they were leaving. I feel this way because the girls would have went back knowing that they were all to be going somewhere. JMO

According to this article, DM's defense attorney knows why he didn't plead guilty.

http://www.kcrg.com/evansdaledisapp...-Girl-Faces-Trial-Amid-Search--163755026.html

Schoeberl said he knows why Morrissey did not plead guilty July 12 but declined to discuss it.

And this...

The girls' aunt, Tammy Brousseau, said Morrissey backed out of a plea agreement in the cases earlier this month because he did not want to be jailed immediately, which it required. She said she believed he would ultimately accept a plea bargain rather than take his chances at trials to reduce the potential prison term he faces.

makes no sense at all. I think I have a poor understanding of how criminal law works.
lol me too. I am definitely confused about the criminal system.
I wasn't aware that the accused/convicted accused could play down
or talk down a sentence. I need to read more. ;)imho
