IA - Infant Chokes On Bag Of Pot In Ambulance Parents Charged

  • #21
Taking a child away from parents who smoke pot is ridiculous. That's like saying you'd take a child away from a parent because they drink wine. Just because you don't like it doesn't make them bad parents.

its not smoking pot......its nearly getting him killed to cover theyre own behinds.

Even though the article is vague, the charges infer that the infant was not complicit in regards to the illicit drugs. As many have already aptly stated here, the charges suffice as just cause for removing the child from the "home."

the infant was not compicit. man i hope they checked that out fully ;)

i hope cps takes them away too .. make no mistake in what im saying in my above post .. at this time the kids should be with ppl that arnt doing drugs .. pot is a drug anyway you slice it and you get addicted to it .. all i meant in my above post was simply that the parents CAN get help and change but the kids shouldnt be with them until this is the case and they are off drugs and monitered for quite a few years guess i shouldve been more clear with my feelings on that

For the record, pot is NOT addictive by any means.

oh really ?http://www.addict-help.com/marijuana.asp Based on all the information available, the answer is yes and no
and if it was not addictive or some sort of problem then why was it ever deemed illegal ? cigarettes havnt been yet they are addicting .. anything mood altering can be addictive it depends on the person who uses it .. if your saying pot itself isnt addictive mabey not but it still alters your mood therefore making it a problem for some ppl

I mean this in the nicest way possible, but think about all the substances people legally put into their bodies that has the potential to destroy their bodies - cigarettes, alcohol, and others that alter their mood - prozac, xanax, caffeine, etc. I just like to point out whenever possible that cannabis is much less harmful to people (physically & socially) than many legal substances. California will have it on their ballot this November, whereas they will decide if they should decriminalise and tax it. It would be regulated much like alcohol.

If you are really interested in why it was originally criminalized, I can post that also, but did not want to get too off topic.

As far as these parents, I believe they were irresponsible, but the plastic bag it was likely in was more dangerous to him than the cannabis in it.

I have already mentioned all that in an above post about addictions.. yes we do put a lot into our bodies stuff we are addicted to .. but no one is gonna convince me weed is safe it alters the way a person thinks and their moods i feel same with alcohol.

if there is something wrong with the person they don't know it yet then can become a really bad problem for their loved ones and for themselves . I think if they legalize it they should get it from a dr so that dr can screen them for possible depression or mood problems or to see if they have an addictive personality

i hate weed for personal reasons i don't hate the people that do it .. just keep it away from me lol same with alcohol that to me is just as bad when ingested by someone that cant handle it . i don't judge someone who is responsible about smoking it or drinking alcohol but when a kid gets to that stuff its not good .. my prescriptions are locked in a safe at all times and they are taken when my kids are sleeping in case i were to drop a pill or something

these parents obviously couldn't be responsible enough to keep it out of the baby's reach or they put it there on purpose .. which makes me very sad and upset for the little one , as far as cigarettes go they dont impair you and coffee energy drinks dont either unless the person is allergic or they have heart or other issues or issues they don't yet know about.. and i know why pot was made illegal ;) but i appreciate your post and didn't take it at all in a negative manner :)

It's not physically addictive - that's one of the things that makes it such a safe substance for medical or recreational use. Unlike opiates, alcohol, cigarettes, coke and other drugs, you can use pot every day and never develop physical tolerance or dependence.

You can however develop a psychological or mental addiction.

Here's a "Riddle me that one, Batman".

Originally I asked how the BAG of pot got into the baby's mouth. The original reason the mother was in an ambulance was because she had been accosted or in a fight. Some kind of physical altercation.

Now, I had a moment of "Maybe the person she had the fight with purposely put the weed into the baby's mouth?" Yo, stranger things have happened.

No doubt police were on the scene. Maybe just maybe a parent hid it on the baby, and the baby put it into their mouth? Maybe while in the ambulance one of the parents tried to hide it and that's how it happened? Did maybe an EMT do it?

Personally I was married to an intelligent, educated, funny, decent man who just happened to smoke weed since he was a kid. You want to know about MOOD change? It effected him immensely. It effected me immensely. Nope, he was no heroin addict stealing from his mother and he wasn't on the crack train to hell pawning my jewelry, but when someone wakes up in the morning before work and needs to smoke there's addiction. When a grown man goes hiding in the backyard during his kids birthday party for a hit from the hash pipe ya gotta notice. When someone is so depressed when they don't smoke, well I'm divorced.

Completely O/T
Anything can be addictive...even pot! Addiction occurs in the brain not in or because of the substance or activity; but rather the body's own intense attraction to and ultimate craving for said substance or activity. JMO

Whether this couple are addicts or not is beside the point...the point is they were extremely irresponsible and negligent, they put their child at great risk.

I would personally love to have that information. I've just never actually heard why it was criminalized or when it was criminalized.

Loot!

Pharmaceutical competition. Harry Anslinger. The FBI in cahoots. That kind of stuff.

Supposedly Anslinger loathed drugs being readily available way back. Yet, he still got McCarthy his morphine. My ex husband told me the whole thing. This from a man that had a huge poster of Sensamillia (sp) hanging on his wall as a kid instead of Farrah Fawcett.:waitasec:

Why does that totally not surprise me? Thanks Filly.

Yep - people were also scared because it was used mostly by dockworkers and people of color.

And don't get me started on Big Pharm - they would rather peddle their life-ruining poison (vicodin, oxycontin, etc...etc...) to people in pain then let them get better, less dangerous relief from taking a toke of a substance they don't conbtrol.

Big Pharm is a huge reason pot remains illegal - marijuana is a medical wonderdrug that helps with so many issues and symptoms without being physically addictive. It makes me so angry.

That said, I feel like it will be legal everywhere before my lifetime is over and that makes me happy!
