Found Deceased IA - Jay Wynkoop, 38, father of 11, Webster City, 20 Oct 2019

It seems to me that if he was parked there and his car is there and he is not then he must have;
1. gotten a ride out of the area on a semi.
2 gotten a room at a local motel to sleep or cool off or pull himself together.
3. found an open RV across the road and is sleeping/cooling off/pulling himself together.

It doesn't make sense that he would park there and then take off on foot back into Webster.

Don't think it'd be too unusual to leave behind wallet/cell phone if you're running out to the corner store for morning beverage or eggs/milk or whatever. Grab a twenty and head out and back.

But Jay left home at 11:30 AM and is clocked on Doc's security cams @ 1 PM. So 90 mins unaccounted for.

I'm not fully understanding the wife's comment about how it would be normal for him to go with someone asking for help.

If it was a friend or family member or someone known to him, wouldn't it be easily know if he went to help someone and who it was?

Did she mean strangers? He was at the truck stop without his wallet or cell and someone asked him for help and he obliged, leaving with them? Why the trip to the truck stop? Why no wallet?

I'm pretty sure his wife means that he'd go be a Good Samaritan for anyone including a stranger, which is what she suspects happened. What else could she mean? Plus, that would be an interpretation completely congruent with a 38-year-old father having 11 kids "ranging from 5-19" - that he has some children which are chosen, instead of biological. If you would adopt, foster, or marry into a huge group of offspring; you'd also be the kind of person who would go help a stranger out.

The point of my question wasn't "what does it mean to be a helpful person?" as that isn't hard to understand....my question was in what specific circumstance did she mean? Did a friend call for assistance and that friend was at the truck stop/gas station or that's a midpoint they planned to meet? Was it definitely a stranger and he happened upon that person at the gas station? And if so, what was he originally planning to do at the truck stop without his phone or wallet?

What type of help does he normally offer? Is he a mechanic or handy with cars and often helps people with car troubles and that's what he was doing/his reason for leaving with someone? Is he one to normally fetch gas for stranded people on empty and that's what brought him to the truck stop? Did he have a gas can with him? Tool bag? Are those things missing from the home?

What has brought her to the conclusion that his helpfulness is the reason he left?

Those are the types of questions I had, hence elaborating on some of them in my earlier post.

My bad, I read too quickly and thought we were discussing a family-known errand as a starting point for the mystery; and that the question was where JW went after the known errand/why he did not return from the known errand. (Plus, I strongly dislike USA Today-based sites as I hate to permit pop-up advertisement; so was not able to read the Des Moines Register article in question). I was not thinking that the mystery starting point was "why did Jay leave the house in the first place".

If some of what is being said is true, there was a stop at a store.

I just looked on the police on facebook, I do see where his alleged sister did write, but see nothing strange at all, I assume the police have deleted those posts. IMHO

I don’t know what can and can’t be said here so I won’t be specific unless I’m given the green light. It has been confirmed that Jay stopped at a store about 1/4 mile to the North of the truck stop to purchase one item. He then waited at the truck stop until the View was obstructed and he walked South down Highway 17. Can I confirm what was purchased at the store? It would certainly tie up any loose ends.

Not unless it has been reported by mainstream media. Right now all we have is rumors. What is being said by family on Facebook is truly heartbreaking and I only hope that’s not the outcome but sadly that is what it is leaning towards. If true, MSM should report more information soon (if he is located, which based on what we are reading seems likely).

Gotcha. I know I would check around the Briggs Woods Lake area if I was investigating the case.

Map attached of area just south of Webster City town center. Doc's truck stop marked with T. Boone River and Briggs Woods Park (with reservoir) just south down Rt 17.

It seems that Jay would park near the river or Briggs Woods Park, if his intent was to go there. Stopping at a truck stop north of that area does not seem logical.

It strikes me that his car was found at a truck stop on Route 20, a major cross-Iowa highway. Seems the only reason for Jay to disappear there, would be getting picked from someone traveling Route 20.

Or someone put his car there to make it appear he was picked up by someone traveling Route 20.

Words matter. The articles so far imply Jay was identified as being in his car at the truck stop, but not sure if that is poor journalism. Maybe he never was there.

Rambling and confused...

Why would he park at the truck stop, wait until the surveillance camera was obscured, get out of the car and start walking south on Rt. 17. There is nothing down there but Briggs Wood Lake and river under the highway.
If self harm is being considered, why not just drive down there to the bridge or the forest.

According to the family's SM, this is going in a direction that has not been mentioned in MSM yet.
