Yes. This is why I posted a complaint about a measly $2,000 reward, but crowdfunding raising far more than that for the family. I was told that people don’t do it for the money. Oh yes they do, which is why a reward was needed to begin with. Nobody rolls over on someone they know for $2k.
Not to be argumentative, but people do "roll over someone" for no money at all. I would call LE if I thought one of my family members was involved with a murder, absolutely. And I sure wouldn't accept any money for it. I am confident that I am not alone in that stance.

I really do suspect in this case, Mollie's, someone's parent, friend, sibling, spouse, etc. might have info that could be useful to this case....and I just get the vibe that the soft-touch we've noticed is an attempt to reach the kind of person who does the right thing because it's the right thing.

Of course, I could be way off - totally possible.

You did great!

Welcome to Webseuths, Captain_Curious!
Thank you! It is a great honor to be among such analytical and professional people in this quest for finding our missing!

I am not a criminal, but if I were to commit a crime, I wouldn't just shut someone's phone off. I would take out the battery, smash whatever I could smash, do whatever I could to destroy and scatter the pieces. If they are searching for a phone along that road, I wonder if they are searching for bits of a phone. ??

IDK

Dear Inthedetails,

That is a great thought!

Seems like the next shift would keep it going...jmo
For sure, I would think/hope so, too. But, I was just tossing in a possible reason why they stopped when they did.

Mollie Tibbetts: Fox News takes a look at the location where the missing girl is last thought to have been

The article at the link includes drone video... it appears to cover the path MT may have taken that evening. The creepy part is near the end when the drone suddenly reverses direction and retreats from the area at increased speed, and in the dirt below deep-rut tire tracks can be seen, as if the wheels were spinning furiously until they finally caught traction. The tracks are in dried mud. It is unknown for how long those rut tracks were there.

As I commented above: creepy.

That's terrible drone work, OK. I have seen way better drone shots on many YouTube channels. Anyway those are the roads behind the house leading out of town. Everything I have heard seems to indicate that she would have been running into town, not out. So I'm not sure how relevant these roads are.

It was actually posted on a fake “Mollie” FB (recently created, two photos- one lifted from her real account). It was shared on Twitter and then retweeted. Most likely false (and if true, I’m betting LE is aware).

This is why WS doesn’t allow social media except in a few circumstances: the victim, the POI (if named by LE or MSM), LE official pages, MSM pages, and official “Find...” pages (if its determined that the page was set up by family or a representative).

I’m betting this post and others relating to it will be removed by mods.

Been reading all of these threads since MT went missing cause it's close to home.. but couldn't get signed up cause of the dang Captcha FINALLY got it so I'm late on jumping in with opinions and facts about little ol' Iowa. I'm from Iowa, less than 3 hours away from Brooklyn... Just to clear up the FB Acct (even though I'm sure it'll be removed) the "Mollie Tibbetts" thing was posted on a "page" not an actual person named Mollie Tibbetts. One of the earlier statuses stated "I made this FB cause I don't have access to my FB acct because of the FBI taking it over, I just want to be left alone..." etc etc. (something of that effect) but it's a page, not an account. You cannot create a page without an account. So if she has no access to her FB acct-- she has no access to make a page.

FYI- this thread was just linked in a Mollie FB group that has 7300 members so I expect there to be a lot more people joining in soon....
YIKES. OK WE ARE READY FOR THEM.

Thank you for making new members feel so welcome. Especially on a thread like Mollie's. It is moving so fast that I am sure some new members are a bit intimidated by the posting.

Keep up the great work.

How did you drive your car without the key?
Key Fob. One of those push to starts where the fob just has to be in the car.

They would charge them with kidnaping or murder, depending on the circumstances.

That would depend on what evidence they have. May not be enough for either yet.

This has not been my experience at all as a professional who works for an agency that works very closely with LE. The majority of the time, there is an alleged perp and no arrest until after quite a ways into the investigative process. In my experience, LE do not arrest unless/until they are very confident they will obtain the necessary evidence over the next 48 hrs. JMO.

ETA: reasoning has been explained to me that once the POI is released bc they fail to obtain necessary evidence and a warrant in the timeframe, the case is further jeopardized. Even when many times it is the correct POI. This could certainly vary by crime since my area of expertise is child abuse and child witness to homicide or violent crime.

And this is IMO the reason for the long pause in the PC when asked if the public was in danger and then the very deliberate "we can't tell you why Mollie is missing so that is a difficult question to answer". If Mollie knows the suspect and this was personal and not random at all, then you assume no the public is not in danger because they are not going to do anything to anyone else. But that said without knowing the reason she is missing, they also don't know that something else wouldn't drive this person to bring harm to anyone else going forward and with a criminal amongst them, then yes the public would be in danger, hence their answer.

Exactly. You can't arrest someone "depending on the circumstances." You need evidence of a specific crime and charge someone with a specific charge, based on evidence.

At this point, just because there isn't an arrest doesn't mean LE doesn't have a POI in mind. It doesn't mean they do either. We don't know.

jmo

They can arrest them depending on circumstances. They have 48 hours to file charges.

My hope is, if they do find her cell phone, there will be some compelling evidence on it much like the Delphi case. Based on everything I have read about Mollie and how much of a fighter she was, I hope she had the presence of mind to discretely video the perp as he was driving perhaps. Access to her phone would be just a huge break in this case.

My 21yr old has his phone on him at all times, same with my 16 yr old. I'm so connected I have the Apple Watch. The younger generation never make a move w/o their phone imo. Also, just adding that I always lock my doors and was raised the way.

If they found something then they are going to be rushing forensics on the item. DNA will take time, but family to include BF should be able to identify if item or items belong to Mollie.
If she was deceased from day 1 and it has been 2 weeks, her body is probably within the 4th to the last stage of decomposition. It would be helpful if the body is found wearing clothes to help with verifying the identity but the same clothing doesn't make it official. It will take more time if the body is found nude, they will have to wait for DNA/dental records/fingerprints/tattoos/piercings/scars etc. to make it official.

Just getting caught up (after days!)

What do you think has happened?

Is she alive?

Oh I do hope for so, but....

  • #719
That would depend on what evidence they have. May not be enough for either yet.

If they have no evidence, then the person walks, that simple.

This makes a lot of sense. IMO, when they have someone in custody, especially someone they highly suspect to be guilty, they wouldn't want to jeopardize releasing that person. Once you get them in custody, that's where you want them to remain.
