They are an investigative tool that can be useful.

Yup. They certainly still use them for top secret clearance investigations, so they have to be of some use.

Something is definitely up IMO. They are really focusing in around this area. I get the feeling they found something.

Farmer: Ongoing search for Mollie Tibbetts happening in Poweshiek County

"On Thursday, the farmer said the search picked back up around 8 a.m. and has stretched on throughout the day. He says divers were searching surrounding ponds on Wednesday, adding that there appears to be a lot of focus on one square mile stretch in the area.

Thursday night around 6:30 p.m., news crews from NBC affiliate WHO-TV in Des Moinesreported seeing K9 searchers with the FBI in the area."
Sounds more and more like a search for a body.

It’s not so much the test itself, but who adamantly refuses.

it definitely is the test itself. it measures changes in blood pressure, pulse, etc. so it's entirely feasible for someone who is actually guilty to stay calm and not show any spikes in blood pressure, pulse, etc. and therefore have "passed." and then the reverse is true - an innocent person could fail because they are so nervous. i have an anxiety disorder and let me tell you, if i was put in such a situation to be given a polygraph that needle would go off the paper i'd be so incredibly anxious.

It would take about 5 minutes to determine if it was her red shirt so im guessing it was, they wouldn't spend 8+ hours now searching otherwise.

The rumor mill in this case has been very surprisingly spot on with everything so far and way ahead of MSM. I don't think I've ever seen that before.

How do you mean?

Obsessed loser or losers kidnap(s) girl either from her home or very close to it while on her way to work in the AM. Your "hunting" remarks reminded me of Holly's case, in that there was a lot of rural land/hunters/camo involved in the investigation narrative.

Le often obtains dna when they can get it, whether they have any to match.

Also, people can be arrested twice...but not tried twice. So they can arrest, charge, dismiss charges, and charge again with more evidence.

And fit bits do not ping, apparently...

BROOKLYN, Iowa – Search teams on Thursday afternoon were combing through ditches near a pig farm that federal agents searched almost a week ago in the hunt for missing college student Mollie Tibbetts, after a possible clue to her disappearance -- a red shirt -- reportedly was found nearby.

A person mowing a lawn found the item of clothing near the Lincoln Wildfire Reserve, the reports said earlier Thursday. It was not immediately clear whose shirt it was. Tibbetts worked at a day care; another employee confirmed its workers wear red shirts.

do their red shirts have a logo? i seem to recall that in the picture that was posted of mollie and her co-worker there was a logo on their shirts, but i'm not certain.

Based on that picture, yes there was a logo.

Marking my spot.
I don't think she voluntarily disappeared..... and that makes me depressed.
(Almost wish she HAD, b/c then she'd be ok. :( )

Years ago I took a polygraph, along with a dozen co-workers over a large sum of money missing. We all passed except one...who had the money and eventually confessed. I was VERY nervous. But this made me believe in them.

They do text rather than talk .If it was a normal occurance to talk for 3 hours, then obviously this is nothing. If there was some serious reason for such a long talk, that's different. The only other option I see is that

could she not just have texted her brother and asked for him to drive over and get her ? I wonder if she was taken in the very early morning hours, like 4 am ish. The time when most people are at their least responsive to intruders/danger ?
Has LE ever stated that there were no signs of a struggle at the house ? Or that there were no signs of forced entry ?

Yes, she could have, but it's been said that she made the one-mile walk often. I'm wondering if there was maybe a break in the rain and then she got caught in it or something? I go back and forth between something happened in the morning inside the home and something happened outside...possibly on the way to her mom's.

According to Mitch Mortvedt, spokesman for the Iowa DCI, there were no signs of a struggle.

"One avenue of thought is that if it wasn't a struggle, and we have found no signs of a struggle, then maybe it was someone she was familiar with," Mortvedt said. "But then the other avenue of thought is it could have been a stranger who simply overpowered her or tricked her. We just have very little to go on."

I realize some members of the family and even some local interviewees state definitively that she made it home that night and was doing things like homework, etc, but police haven't verified this, no? Reason is because it seems to me that the dogs still being in the basement would indicate that perhaps she didn't make it home. An obsessed random abductor would be far more likely to approach her in the early evening while running then in the morning during a quick jaunt to her mom's house. I am new to this case though, so there are likely many holes that I haven't yet filled regarding whether she made it home.

JMO.

The LE have stated they have a solid timeline but have not verified any specifics at all. The public isn't privy to it. We do believe the dogs were in the basement where it has been said that they were kept when home alone/owners away. The dogs being in the basement could mean that Mollie never made it home or that she had put the dogs in the basement before/as she left in the morning.
This case has a lot of holes and it did especially early on.

Just a thought.. I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this... so I apologize if they have... so many times someone turns up somewhere where authorities have already searched because a Perp thinks “they already looked there so should be a safe place to put her”... maybe not combing for evidence— just rechecking because they have good reason to believe she is there...? Thoughts???

Also, I’m just under 3 hours from Brooklyn and in Iowa we have not only a lot of farmers but a TON of hunters with shooting shacks, deer stands and etc. so she could be hidden out there somewhere.. in the woods here there are abandoned trailers and cabins in the woods all over. I’m not familiar with the particular woodlands they’re searching though so not sure if it’s protected by the DNR or not.

Dear Wndrlst,

Thank you for sharing your valuable insight with us. I certainly was not aware of shooting shacks and deer stands.

Much appreciated!

That is a great thought about the perpetrator watching where the searches have been completed.

They are most useful for scaring perps into confessions than they are scientifically accurate. JMO

I guess this answers our question about the red shirt? If it wasn't missing, they wouldn't be seaching the area where one was found. Anyone have that picture of Mollie & friend on the bus handy? I was under the impression the shirts they are wearing in the photo, is the same red shirt which is missing?
