I have not been on this site for years. I had to create a new account just so I could ask this question: Why was search by local volunteers "called off" after such a short time? I get that the FBI is now involved, but still...seems very odd. Why would you not want volunteers searching? There is so much rural land, cornfields, etc. One farmer said, you would literally have to go row by row...so why wouldn't they want people searching row by row in field after field?? Couldn't evidence have been discarded all over the county? Why not have people out looking for things that could have been discarded at least???

This case has make me take more notice of people. I was on the hike-and-bike trail yesterday, and there were a lot of people out, including a lot of joggers Mollie's age. Even though I don't live close to Iowa, I still found myself looking at each one just to be sure it wasn't her. Most people were in groups, but some were alone. And I want every one to be SAFE. I know at this point we don't think Mollie disappeared while jogging, but the facts we have are still somewhat ambiguous.

@ cjack410, Welcome to Websleuths -- you are among friends here.

In the earliest posts, LE verified Mollie jogging in Brooklyn as she was captured on camera (I believe the high school), and seen by at least three witness that I recall. LE reports only verified accounts, that's how it works. Keep in mind that Mollie's been missing about 11 days; and it was the family that immediately came out with Mollie's day camp "red t-shirt" missing. I believe this came out prior to the verified sightings by LE of Mollie in running gear. There's been no verified sighting of Mollie in the red shirt (doesn't mean she was wearing it when she disappeared), and for all we know, it could be in her work locker, or maybe she expected one of her fellow counselors to bring it to work for her on Thursday. (Mollie's worked at the day camp for at least 2 summers). We do know that the family stopped talking about the "red shirt" since before the missing posters printed! Certainly we can speculate about anything reported, not reported, and what Mollie was wearing when she vanished, but don't expect LE to deny or confirm anything that they have not verified. Also, the Moderators have put together helpful posts with all the links to reports and timelines on the first page of every thread, especially for the newbies, but also referenced by many Members that have been following here for the past 11 days.

As to the bolded, I agree. I am worried we are putting too much emphasis upon the red shirt, and assuming it is missing.

My son used to be a camp counselor in a summer camp. They wore bright yellow shirts on field trip days but he always kept his at the camp office. There was a large box of field trip shirts there for the employees and chaperones.

Many of the counselors wore their regular shirts to work, and changed into camp uniform shirts when they got there. That way, after work, they could go to school or on a date, wearing their 'normal' clothes.

So I am not totally convinced that her red shirt was really missing.

maybe it was the weather? or do they have evidence of something else that they're not sharing and maybe didn't want volunteers walking over potential evidence?? Its odd and that's why they should be telling us more IMO

Hoping LE is to the point where if they give out any more information, it will compromise the case. This article says they can take her data and match it to others at her location. It's amazing to me.

Investigators turn to Fitbit data for clues about missing Iowa college student

"Investigators have also issued warrants to social media companies for data that could help determine exactly where she went.

"You can actually overlay the location data with the real world to find out what exactly happened," Thomas Yohannan, an expert on data recovery. "You are essentially trying to find a witness to the events that happened leading up to her missing person.""

Exactly, Resee. I may have missed explanation being new too, but the cancel and the "look in Utah" right off the bat seem like they believe(d) she took off on nher own.

Can anyone set us straight?

But I think this is misleading. Many of those that were reported missing actually turned up.
The persons who've been reported missing in the last 10 days - from the list published by the Iowa Dept of Public Safety - how many have now "turned up"?

If you could actually name them - as all their names are in the above video and also on the applicable website.

Thanks.

Pretty sure trafficking links and theories has been banned from thread, jmo. Nothing points to such a thing.

Is Mom sure it was a special red shirt and not just “wear a red shirt”?

Also it is ok to bring up similar cases as far as I know as long as it is CLEAR that it is about another case, in replies as well.

I don't think they actually are taking her data and matching it to others' data at each location. I think they mean they can take her location data and then physically go there in the real world and gather additional information through police work like interviewing, looking for video, using other available information like weather data, etc.

I just hope they have some very solid info they are holding "close to the vest" that will make sense soon...otherwise, they have squandered very good, ready, willing volunteer search oportunities.

Has everyone posting in this thread (#6) read the posts by Harmony 2 and Tricia at the beginning of this thread?
Please take 5 minutes to read ALL of their posts and follow the instructions from Harmony 2 regarding acknowledging you understand the rules and guidelines.

I don’t want to log in later to see it’s locked or closed.

Her retweet on July 6th is interesting
I think its because she's spreading the word about mental illness and how It can affect anyone. I've seen her post similar things.

so she would have this at home.. that makes sense. I wasn't sure if you'd just be issued one the day before.

At the summer day camp, where my son worked, they passed the bright yellow shirts out to the counselors the day or 2 before, but many employees would leave them in the office and put them on the morning of the field trip, when they arrived at work. Lots of the kids had things to do right after their shifts and wouldn't want to go to their next thing wearing a 'Kids Kamp' T-shirt.

Also, the owners used to take all the employees field trip shirts and wash them and save them in a big box, for the next trip. Employees come and go so sometimes they gather them, and keep the field trip shirts in the office to hand out the next time they are needed.

Welcome back! :p

Most of the articles I've read seem to gloss over the reason and basically just state that the FBI is now involved. This one offered a little bit more information.

“The FBI brings a lot of investigational power with forensic analysis and evidence assistance,” he said. “Additionally, the FBI has a highly-trained search and rescue team … and that is one of the resources they brought in.”

State and federal investigators join in search for Mollie Tibbetts

I thought that. That way no one forgets to take theirs on the day its needed. it might not be the case here but just a thought.

Look, if this a established summer camp they have a box of these t-shirts. You just look for our size for the summer and go...
