Yes, I listened to the Senator from Iowa talk about sex trafficking today and then I did a deep dive on google on the topic in Iowa (surrounding states too!). Supposedly the traffickers bring large groups of people to special events such as the country and state fairs. They advertise oftentimes in a very open and easy to find way. My guess is that they were out in full force around the fair event. The industry itself is a multibillion dollar segment of overall huge illegal sex business. But what makes it so heartbreaking to read about is how the traffickers prey on the young, weak, disabled, addicted and economically disadvantaged. Kudos to the Senator for taking on this issue in Iowa. I hope LE is listening.

Fortunately, Mollie was not young, weak, disabled, addicted, or economically disadvantaged. That suggests that whatever sex trafficking circles the politician is referring to are unrelated to the abduction of Mollie.

The headline alone says it all for me - law enforcement doesn't have much to go on at all if you have conducted more than 200 interviews.

Mollie Tibbetts case: Investigators conduct more than 200 interviews - CNN
LE could have spoken to 200 people but is the general consensus that people have been forthcoming? In my experience small towns can be funny about talking out of school about people they live in close proximity to or might be beholden to for a livihood.

Perhaps. But I am still stunned by the speed that the FBI jumped on this case when there are other similar cases out there. I wonder if they knew it was a case that would cross state lines or not when they jumped on board. Something sparked their movement. Just don't know what it was at this point. Any ideas?

There are exceptions to every rule.

Now I’m starting to wonder if it’s someone who works next door at the electrical company.

They would have occasion to see Mollie somewhat regularly, know the routine....could be a stalker.

If one has followed MP cases here on WS...the FBI is nearly always a factor when the person is not located within a day or two, and there is no known reason for the person to be missing. This case meets the criteria. Also this case is relying heavily on electronic data, which the FBi has far greater access and experience than most local and county LE. We should not, imo, have to point out cases when there are hundreds here in the “missing” or “located” sections. Probably a key word search for FBI would bring up nearly all the cases that extended past a few days. Jmo

Very true that the specific LMS doesn’t really matter. I find it somewhat ironic though that we can debate points/phrases that have been released to the public and wonder, for example, whether someone said ‘from’ or ‘to’ — yet take it at face value with no questions asked that the course Mollie referred to in a tweet (without any clarification) is definitely online and definitely a UIowa course. I’ve just been observing how easy it is to jump to conclusions.

Edited to add: I don’t mean to come across as grumpy .... this is just a tough case, and sometimes humor in the little things is needed ... and I find the LMS discussion rather humorous. :)

I like and find the fine tuning brought up explaining the many systems coming in to play in cases here on WS. This case seems to be enlightening a number of new and old by old and new of various SM, cell networks, social trends, WS changes and yes, even interjections of humor.

All learning while we all work for Mollie and others, presently and going forward.

Since they appear to be searching multiple pig farms, there may be a tip or forensics that ties MT to a pig farm but not a specific pig farm.

I'd guess many might think of a pig farm for quite horrendous reasons but yes, a tip may be something involving a vehicle sighting (transport truck), clothing/uniform, disposal of evidence (thrown out window of passing vehicle as device last pinged). Location reasons perhaps more than the people near those places.

Again, LE keeping close to vest such reasons to aid and not corrupt case.
IMO

There is one fact i forgot to mention.. shes not at the hog farm!
I really hope theres something from the PC.

She's ... not ... at ... the ... farm

But

It also has not been established/revealed if she was at the hog farm at some point.

An entirely different and possible thing.

I remind ourselves, those looking in and especially those in Brooklyn community, answer the appeal from MT's Dad and LE,
Call in/report those tips
Let things/leads be investigated
Those agents are there to exhaust what might create a successful conclusion.

Very unlikely. Hog confinement’s are controlled envitonments. Your clothes never enter the barn. You strip down on one side, shower as you enter, then put on farm clothes inside. Same going out. Hog poop virtually never comes in contact with the shoes you wear when you leave.

Virtually never?

Including after transporting, cleaning trailer?

Sex slavery (i.e. sex trafficking) has become the Satanic Panic of the 2010's. Politicians have gone insane screaming about it and passing laws and both sides of the aisle have embraced the hysteria.

What's sad is why many say they've embraced it. Oh sex trafficking exists. Lots of it involves voluntary adults who go across state lines. Or even kids who runaway and become prostitutes to survive. Even if no force or fraud is used, such kids are, by law, victims of sex trafficking. Which should be the case.

But while it is a major problem in our country it doesn't really affect the people that both sides of the aisle care about.

If most people in society knew who those involved in sex trafficking really are, many would not care. They'd turn their backs:

"It happens every year. First, comes January’s Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and a spate of flawed articlesdepicting the issue of commercial sex in the broadest of terms. Then, in February, Super Bowl “sex slavery” hysteria kicks into full gear. Even though the idea that the championship game sparks an epidemic of sex trafficking has been debunked, sensational media coverage of the non-issue persists (here’s another story published just this week).
As a person with experiences in the sex trades, and someone that has worked for more than five years teaching memoir-writing at various agencies around New York, including organizations that provide services to victims of commercial sexual exploitation, I can say with certainty that commercial sexual exploitation differs from the stereotypes often perpetuated by these campaigns.Hyperbolic coverage does more harm than good.

Victims don’t look like the girls in the posters.
When we hear “human trafficking” we have an image — thanks in great part to faith-based nonprofits — of thin, white women plucked from their perfect homes, blindfolded and gagged, chained to beds in sexually provocative poses.Sometimes, the pictures feature kids who are shockingly young.
According to the experts who help them, most kids involved in commercial sexual exploitation are runaways or “throwaways” — homeless youth that are otherwise already in a negative situation and in need of help.GEMS founder Rachel Lloyd says the overwhelming majority of commercially exploited girls and women her organization services are “low-income young women of color, over 70% of whom have been in the foster care system and all of whom have histories of sexual abuse, physical abuse, and/or neglect prior to their recruitment.”

Covenant House confirms, human trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation disproportionately affect people of color, and other minorities, including LGBTQ youth.

Not all victims of commercial sexual exploitation are women or girls, nor are all victims youth. So why the pictures of white children clinging to teddy bears? Whyterrifying articles warning parents how to protect their kidsfrom getting abducted? Do white women really only care when it threatens our literal daughters or girls that look like us?"

One of her brothers said she wasn't a talented runner...anyone remember which interview that was? I'll go look and link...
Hmmm...I recall an interview where I thought brother Jake was talking about Mollie's stage acting and how she wasn't very talented (beginning) but by high school she got the leading roles??? I don't recall comments about her running/track talent.

All this talk of the dogs...I wonder how much “dog waste” was found in the basement. Could give an indicator on timeline too. Also, I wonder if she had already fed them dinner or not.

"LE could have spoken to 200 people"

This doesn't necessarily mean in-depth, like bringing them into the station, interviewing. I guess most will be on the lines of did you (shop keepers, gas stations attendants and so on ) see anything out the ordinary at such and such a time etc etc..

Thanks for taking the time to put that information together. As another professional who works with HT victims, it grows tiring hearing the issue politicized and publicized inaccurately. It leads to public hysteria and the assumption that at any moment someone we love and care about could be snatched up at the mall or local grocery store. Traffickers don't want girls/women that would be noticed and lead to national coverage of theirc disappearance nor do they want girls/women that are likely to put up a fight or run.

Trafficking is built on the power control cycle and like all domestic violence (trafficking is just a form of DV), appeals to vulnerable victims that are generally throwaway or runaway youth, youth in the foster care system or living in abusive and/or neglectful homes. Traffickers rarely just snatch girls. Instead they groom victims that will fit the profile and are likely to "willingly" go and stay with them.

From what we know about Mollie, she would not be a probable HT victim. I've seen politicians on both sides jump on this issue and interject into missing person cases frequently. It doesn't actually help and may in fact be an unnecessary distraction. JMO.

Does it matter? Haven't all of those people been ruled out, and as such should deserve a modicum of privacy? Who cares where they live if they are unrelated to her disappearance?

The address is where she was staying and where she possibly retuned to after her run. It's a known fact that all the roommates lived there also.
