Yes, I agree that part is a general description of what likely happened. I was only referring to the story of "blacking out" and not remembering the actual murder. My adrenaline was pretty high last night and my mind kept screaming KILLER! LIAR! and I was so angry some of my posts weren't clear. I think the details ( EXCEPT for the black out story, that LE gave us are pretty close to what happened and the WORST of what occurred is what he is not being truthful about. And I also believe much of it was coaxed out of him as opposed to him offering the details willingly. You can imagine how it goes, the detective may say, "so what did you do when she threatened to call police? That must have made you pretty ANGRY. After all, you only wanted to jog beside her and make FRIENDS! Were you kind of upset about that?" You know how it goes. But yes, thank you for your post, as usual you said it much better than I ever could!!!

I think Rivera lied and used the “blackout” to avoid admitting the awful distasteful things he did to her while killing her. I think he may have been embarrassed in front of the males who were interrogating him.

Those details, as sad as they will be, will be detected and a written portion of the autopsy being done as we speak.

Extremely sad yes. There is only one positive aspect to this. He killed her rather quickly and didn’t torture her over days.

It is however deeply sad that this monster roamed the streets to kill her st all. I’m half expecting that he might very well have done something like this before. There is no reason thus far that he just killed. He did it fast and probably had the perfect spot for disposal before killing her.

I honestly believe this is not his first. It will darn sure be his last. He won’t have the opportunity to stalk and murder again.

I do however wish that he could be prosecuted by the feds, so the option for the death penalty could be in the table. I have not researched it. But this afternoon I think I will.

IN A WORLD WHERE WE CAN BE ANYTHING——please be kind.

I think he was feeling pretty confident and already planning his next victim...why leave when it was so easy for him.
Mollie Tibbetts Murderer Has Creepy Tie to Kewanee

He most def was planning his next victim and had planned to harm other young women before Mollie! My great aunt sent me this knowing I’ve been following this case. The town she lives in is about 2-3 hours from Brooklyn Iowa.

Yes she should have; but she probably thought he would back off. I don't know; but maybe he has approached her in the past.

As soon as she stated that she would 'call the police'; alarm bells started to ring in his head; he was an illegal immigrant and what that would mean for his girlfriend and child.

I don't believe that the fact he was an illegal immigrant set any alarm bells ringing. I don't think that he gave any thought to his girlfriend and child. I think that he killed her for the same reason that a myriad of citizens have killed vulnerable women.

Furthermore, I think we don't have any particular reason to think she said she'd call the police--that comes from him, and I'm not willing to believe anything he says unless there's evidence to back it up. For all we know, it was a blitz attack that caught her unawares.

I suppose it depends on how you define "many" I can say, that I have known well, at least a dozen people in my life, who deny the existence of evil.
They must live a very sheltered life. Either that or completely in denial.. my experience is the opposite, out of all the places I have lived, I have never met one person who said there was no evil in the world. Maybe its a religious thing, or people who somehow like to believe that everyone is inherently " good?" I just can't imagine why people would think that unless they have their head in the sand.

It has taken nearly 20 hours since the PC for me to post. I am so angry at how this has all turned out. Poor Mollie and her loved ones
It has been stated that he had the sheriffs department as a "like" on FB. I am sure he wanted notifications of anything discovered. I was also trying to find a post on WS from several weeks back where a member claimed he was driving past WC house and stated he was not home then stated he just pulled out of his garage and that WC was supposedly following him. I think he said he was driving a black Malibu?? Someone else posted that as BS stating WC was 60 miles away at the time. Anyone remember this? Could it have been CR?
Yeah, it was the baseball guy and SharonNeedles

They prob. didn't dare say anything because I suspect some/most/all of them may be illegals as well. Just to go to the authorities would put themselves at risk. Plus, if they spoke only Spanish and lived in a communal house/situation would they have even known about MT?
Going back to the size of Brooklyn where the entire school population averages about 250, I have no doubt that Mollie knew or knew of this perp (employed locally for 4 years), more specifically because he was the baby daddy of one of Mollie's classmates. In fact, Mollie and her extended family probably made and/or purchased baby gifts for the child because that's typical in this this rural community. The publicity for Mollie had to have this alleged murderer constantly looking over his shoulder. Given that there were anonymous methods to report, I suspect the creep is a repeat offender, and his acquaintances fearful of him. I hope LE not wasting anytime getting his DNA in the system and searching for any match. My condolences to all in Brooklyn just coming to grips that Mollie's really gone.

I wonder why he confessed and led them to her body. They only had the video of him following her in the car. He could have denied that he spoke to her or anything else and they had nothing to show otherwise. Maybe they tricked him and said we have you on tape talking to her or something.

At that point the dude knew he would be busted for being here illegally. It could be that he considered life in an American prison preferable to whatever would have awaited him if he were deported.

Yeah, I see that. I can't imagine- literally- being in the mind of someone like him. It's so alien. But your post is a good reminder we aren't dealing with someone like us.
And I also don't discount his rage in that moment. We don't know enough about the events of this crime yet to make decisive judgements on his actions, but he very well could have lost control and hit her too hard, or slammed her head into the ground and suddenly been like, "oh f!"

They used an interpreter.

Yes, and to agree with agilbe, I hope that they used a very good one, hopefully a native speaker of Mexican Spanish. Not all "Spanish" is the same, as you go South into Mexico and South America. Since the Feds are involved, I would hope that they brought in the best.

***The Blackout***

As an attorney (in Iowa), it is obvious why the defendant is trying to assert this blackout defense. These individuals notwithstanding their origin or lack of English skills aren't stupid. He is trying to negate one of the elements of First Degree Homicide which is premeditation or malice aforethought. If he can do that, he can perhaps reduce the charge. In other words, he's trying to remove or mitigate specific intent which is one of the parts of the 1st degree murder statute. In Iowa, Felony A, i.e. first degree murder has no parole. But for other lesser murders, i.e. 2nd degree etc, people do get paroled and released. He isn't dumb by any means. If a jury (not likely) were to buy that he did have this supposed blackout, he might even attempt for involuntary manslaughter. In other words, yes I killed her but something took me over; booze, intoxication, seizures, "blackout," and in that state I couldn't have had the intent to have killed Mollie. Then I woke up and oops here's her dead, bloody body. Go figure. There's a reason this perpetrator is asserting this. Fairly transparent to an attorney; perhaps less so to lay people. Regardless, this idiot needs to be locked up for good. End of story.

I am very interested in what the defense is going to do when the doctors report their results of his psychological evaluations.

Wow, he sent her a message 18 days after killing Mollie, did I read that right?

They better run his DNA

Yes! I assume we will get to read the court transcript at some point. I wonder, though, even this early, if he construed it as an "accident" and an "Oh F' thing, would we be hearing he said that by now? Hmmm.

That's another matter. He underestimated home based surveillance, which is now increasingly popular. No camera = potentially free and ready to do it again.

IMO, this isn’t his first attack

Another poster here posted a story that he had contacted another girl a few hours away

I was struck by the number of men who have been arrested who share the same name! It is one thing to track someone who is legal and using aliases. I wonder if CR is his real name? His only name? If he worked at the Dairy for four years doing seasonal work - did he actually work there for the WHOLE 4 years or did he work during a particular season and then work elsewhere for other part of the year?

Wondering if there are other victims??
Good questions I bet LE (and maybe now immigration officials?) will look into.

Thankfully he's now off the street for good, and can't ever prey upon or hurt anyone ever again.

If he fled the country, how could he have even EVER been caught? Would he have actually been able to get away with murder?

That’s what’s so puzzling, he could have probably just driven away into the sunset, instead he hung out very close to where he left Mollie.
