"The manager of a dairy farm says the man charged with kidnapping and killing an Iowa college student was a good employee who worked there for four years under a fake name.

Dane Lang, manager of Yarrabee Farms in Brooklyn, Iowa, said that Cristhian Bahena Rivera presented an out-of-state government-issued photo identification and a matching social security card when he was hired in 2014. Lang says, "our employee is not who he said he was."

UPDATE: Experts say legal status system easily exploited
so he was hired there in 2014 which begs the question of where he was before that. Was he in Iowa or somewhere else?

Just wanted an idea. Like years? Doesn't matter if I like it, just want to have an idea how long. The longest time people have Gotten away with it. You have me thinking it's 20 years!
The most honest answer I can think of, based on MOO, of course?? Until they legally obtain their own SSN and begin using that one...I'm sure there's been cases longer than 20 years. But I doubt they got "caught". I'm sure they came forward on their own when they wanted to claim any earnings on that original SSN as theirs so they could apply for a benefit such as disability or retirement. That's just a guess though.

Will someone help re-thread/bump a MSM source that actually says Cristhian Bahena Rivera was using a stolen identity, or a fake Social Security number, or committed tax fraud, or that the company he worked for knowingly employed him illegally?

Because I can't find any. They very well might exist and be buried by more recent updates in my searches. I'm also not saying none of those things are possible. I just want to be able to follow the facts of this fast-moving thread. Thank you!!

Here's the definition of "undocumented immigrant," according to the US government (bbm): "An alien who entered the United States illegally without the proper authorization and documents, or who entered the United States legally and has since violated the terms of his or her visa or overstayed the time limit."

Not sure if this is what your looking for....

A senior homeland security official, who spoke anonymously because he was not authorized to discuss the case, said Mr. Rivera appears to have used stolen documentation in order to pass the federal government identity check at the farm where he had worked for the past several years.

Dane Lang, a spokesman for Yarrabee Farms, said Mr. Rivera provided a state-issued photo identification card and a social security card. “Our practice is to take a second, enhanced step to verify the identification,” he said in a statement, screening employees through the Social Security Administration.

“We ran that information through the verification service, and it came back ‘verified,’” he said. “That means that the exact name, birthdate and exact social security number were all cross referenced and corroborated.”

Over the last 24 hours, Mr. Lang added, company officials learned that their verification had not been adequate. “Our employee was not who he said he was.”

i havent had time to read through every single one of these threads yet, but i have been keeping up with this case, and what really angers me is that this man not only ruined the Tibbetts' family lives, but he also ruined his very own daughters life...

The sad reality is that this guy being sent to
jail forever is literally best thing that could have ever happened to his daughter. Now she will be safe from her dad. Now her mama doesn’t have to worry that he will get mad and kill the baby or herself. Even if they were together, you know this was an unhealthy and toxic homelife for this kiddo.

They didn't say anything about the fitbit or her phone in the affidavit, so can we assume those items were not with her when she was found?

We don't know either way. The affidavit is just the evidence that led to probable cause for CR's arrest. More info about the fitbit should come out at trial, if only to show LE exhausted every lead before the evidence lead to CR.

Good question! I’d like to know this as well.
ETA: This thread moves so fast, it’s hard to keep up! I see you answered this, Alethea. Thank you!

Thank you, @Mica! Yes, this is very helpful.

So it appears to me the company likely performed beyond its due diligence in verifying that their employee was properly documented. Good to know. They did the right thing. :)

Rivera "appears" to have used stolen info to pass the government-level check, but there's no definitive word (yet) about how or where it was acquired.

Thanks again for the link!

Just reflecting....

Only two days ago everyone was wracking their brains - what happened to Mollie? How could she just disappear? Many, many different theories covering the entire realm of possibilities. Also a certain amount of blame directed toward LE by some for being somewhat vague in information provided to the public.

Then yesterday came the announcement of a press conference and reports of a possible discovery of a body. I think it’d be fair to say most of us didn’t expect that LE had already made an arrest but also had obtained a confession from the suspect who led them to the recovery site.

Maybe Rivera wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed and so he didn’t think he’d ever get caught but at least he didn’t flee nor did he attempt to minimize his involvement by incriminating someone else. In no way am I defending his dispicable deed but at least he owned up to it.

While I can understand why some people’s response to the news is anger and outrage and maybe even frustration to not have seen this coming, I’m still left with thoughts of Mollie’s family and friends and although it certainly didn’t end as they hoped, at least they were given closure. So many other parents and families of missing or murdered children spend years and even an entire lifetime seeking answers they often never get....

We have no idea if any of that is true, it referenced The Daily Mail.

This may have been mentioned before, but as I watched the court appearance today, CR does not seem to speak or understand English. Yet, he was able to understand and remember that Mollie told him to get away from her (in English)? That makes no sense.

This man obviously thought only of himself. In addition to Mollie's family and friends, his girlfriend and little girl will have to live with this for the rest of their lives.
Good catch! If he's telling the truth, he heard her quite well!

One wonders if they were tossed on WC's property. If so, that might explain all of the DCI visits to him.

I wouldn't make that assumption. These things may be revealed during discovery. The mention of clothes is very telling. I haven't a doubt this is a SA.

<modsnip: political commentary>

My thinking is when Mollie was running and Mr. Rivera was getting to close for comfort she said she would call the police. That meant he would more than likely to be deported. Nevertheless a young life has been taken way too soon and another life will be at the mercy of our justice system

Not very helpful if one has to open and read every story to find an answer, but thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Thankfully, I'm a speed reader. ;)

Read back a few posts. I posted the info from the article in response to your question.

Bet i wasn’t the only one holding their phone up to their ear when Atorney America was whispering with the translator about the prelim hearing, Bc CR initially seemed to not want it.
I was like, whisper a little louder into your mic please...
