Parents have an awesome responsibility here...for years you raise them covering the bases keeping them safe and checking on and verifying to and from school, after school events, friendships, other adults and their connections online and then their upper teens and privacy is paramount to them. You don’t want to fill them with paranoia and fear so it’s addressed but not the unnerving details. Preparing them for reaction time and giving them tools to use in case they are in a situation. Self defense classes strengthen their sense of and ability to react. Mace, whistles alarms also good to have in your possession. I have addressed several things with my 18 yo daughter just starting college and she has also voiced her own ideas related to her personal safety. One thing that did catch me off guard was parking lot safety she was not really aware of this behaviorally. I just took it for granted she knew all about it, but no she didn’t. Simple maneuvers park up close to entry of business, park where it’s well lit, keep your doors windows closed/locked when in car alone, observe other vehicles/ people near you and at or around the car. Use security to walk you out at night or if you feel someone bothering you is hanging around.

Yep, and to our chagrin somehow, perhaps even in this case, all that forewarning flies out the window when someone just grabs your child from behind and there is no time to react. That is the saddest part of it all. You can't plan for a quick assault other then constantly looking around your personal space to ensure no one is that close to you. It makes me ill to think this because it makes us all scared little rabbits always on the lookout. To think we believe we are living in a civilized society protected by the rule of law. Yeah wonderful, until you consider criminals don't abide by society's laws. :(

Oh yeah, I remember something like that on the map. That could definitely have been the case.
It was a location further north than where they found her near Rt. 6. I was thinking her phone likely pinged near there since it is likely he still had it in the car or it was on her as it pinged further south near the pig farm. That may have been the route he used out of town after abducting her. MOO

Thinking back now to the 5 points released on the map....is it possible that they were putting points on there where they had a digital footprint, that had cameras, and that they just thought might be important?

For example, the area where she was abducted, something probably on her FitBit may have alerted to something happening (heart rate spike, being in a moving vehicle, etc). The area where she was found may have been when the FitBit and phone stopped "pinging." The car wash and truck stop--I don't know if CR would have gone to either of those places. Maybe he was seen driving by the car wash? . JMO

I wonder if he got a car wash first and that was his reason for being in town? His car was unique apparently with after market parts and maybe someone who knew him saw it there and could ID him for police. But then again heavy rain was forecasted so why wash the car the night before? More likely he had an altercation with Mollie to get her in the trunk and got blood on the car and took it to the car wash after.

Or maybe simply the reason for the dot is just because the car wash had a camera, he drove by it , and it is a public place so more opportunity for somebody to have seen the car that knows him and could ID for police.

I don't think it was premeditated by CR to get her that night. I think it was a crime of opportunity when he saw her. I believe him as far as his story of running next to her - I think he stalked her in the car, jumped out, ran next to her and pulled a knife out probably stabbing her a few times then and there during struggle to get in the car. Rain washed any evidence away. Then he threw her in the truck and took her to the corn field. He did say he half drug/half carried her so maybe she was mortally injured already. I know the black out story is a lie, but I don't automatically think he is lying about it all. He just didn't want to flat out admit to the murder because he thinks the black out story might be a way to get some sympathy with a jail term in terms of being "out of his head" when doing it and now he is back to mr nice guy that doesn't even remember!

living in trailer separate from others tells me he was not accepted even in his own community. He was a loner wanting to fit in at times but ok not fitting in. A loner type with boundaries.
More likely he'd been there for four years and got one of the better accommodations.
What, not accepted or a loner because he had privacy? I believe that privacy was earned, as in a perk for his performance and tenure on the job. His employer already provided that he worked and got on well with his co-workers. Regardless of immigration/residency status, as a farm hand, this is the equivalent of getting the corner office.

In my experience, to use a truck stop shower, you have to go up to the cashier and get a ticket and maybe a towel, if non-truck drivers are even allowed to use the showers. Again, in my experience, the showers can be more like a small room with a lockable door, with plenty of room and benches for a couple of people to get "frisky". This is one reason that their use would be restricted to Drivers only, so that a prostitute could not set up to do "business" out of the shower rooms. A legit truck stop, like TA, would keep a close eye on the shower areas for this reason.

Supposedly, Lizzy Borden used an ax, and did it in the nude, washing up afterward. With a jug of water in the car, CR could have done the same roadside. This would also explain the ear piece falling into his lap. It fell there while he was getting dressed in the car.
That is something I never even considered. If he didn't have clothes on to get dirty, and a way to wash up, problem solved. That would point to premeditation and/or intellectual forethought.

Repeatedly referring to him as an illegal alien is racism. A more subtle form of racism, but racism nonetheless. When people say "illegal alien" everybody knows they are not talking about a Canadian who overstayed their visa. The term is 99% used to describe hispanic people. So it is a racist statement.

Illegal alien is an accurate description of him, but completely irrelevant to the case, and so should not be brought up, since it has nothing to do with his crime. Even the victim's own family has recognized this and taken offense to it.
Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation stated at the press conference that Homeland Security believed CR to be an illegal alien. People are not coming up with that verbage on their own.

Yes he likely got better accommodations with less roommates due to his tenure. I am sure he did not live in the trailer alone. It likely had multiple bedrooms so there had to be roommates IMO.

It's kind of confusing because some news articles have said he shared the trailer with IM and his daughter and others have said the relationship ended 2 years ago. He may have lived in the trailer alone, but it's unlikely.

If he was going to lie about his age it seems he'd lie to say he was older, not younger. It would give him adult status. I think he may look older than 24 because for the last four years he's worked 12 hour days seven days a week.

Likely trying to be a "Dreamer".

I am really surprised he didn’t skip town when the map with the five points was released. He had to have known that LE was closing in on him.

JMO if indeed he had a separate trailer, it may have been to accommodate visits from his child, or given to him when they all lived as a family. It is ridiculous to assume it was due to his being a “loner” who could not get along with others. That would not be likely provide him with what sounds to me like a perk. Jmo

Or he had a change of clothes. Most farms have hoses around the barns, he could easily have ditched his clothing, hosed off behind a barn and gone back home.

They weren’t really, though. Haven’t they said he came on their radar on 8/20? That map was before then.

I'd bet he thought it was over and done. They were sending Mollie's father back to his home, her brothers were headed back to school and he knew Mollie wouldn't be found until they harvested the corn.

I hadn't read that, where did LE state that?

He would have lied and said he was younger if he wanted to be a dreamer

LE did a really amazing job. They brought precious Mollie home and have the perp in jail awaiting a First Degree Murder trial. I have seen so many cases where the perp gets charged with a lesser charge to reveal the location of the remains.

A beautiful piece of poetry to pay tribute to a beautiful life. I wonder ...has anyone heard anything else about the funeral being broadcast? I would like to watch it.
The local vigil for Mollie at her Church was broadcast live and I'm sure the service at school will be. I'll try to provide link. Thanks for reminder.
