This morning I saw the newsclip of the highlights from MT's brother's football game friday night where he as quarterback had three touchdowns (2 passing, 1 running). To me, not only did playing show incredible strength and fortitude but also sent a very clear message...this heinous crime will not cause that family (and I suspect DJ and friends as well) from living. That is a great message and I am sure MT was watching, cheering and smiling at her brother and his team (her school) carrying on with life, albeit with heavy hearts...One ruined life is enough. MOO

May Mollie Tibbetts Rest In Peace.

It’s Mollie’s funeral service today I hope he can be forgotten for a while and the focus be on remembering Mollie. Sincere condolences to Mollie’s family and friends. Mollie is gone but will not be forgotten.

Dirge Without Music by Edna St. Vincent Millay
Dirge Without Music by Edna St. Vincent Millay

I wasn't sure if I could post the entire poem, so I am just quoting it. The entire poem is at the link above. RIP Mollie.

"Down, down, down into the darkness of the grave
Gently they go, the beautiful, the tender, the kind;
Quietly they go, the intelligent, the witty, the brave.
I know. But I do not approve. And I am not resigned."

It's Iowa. The short State name and the lighter areas to the left and right of the State name are the giveaway.
The good thing is the CCTV footage LE has would of captured the vehicle from most angles as he was busy driving around; so they can check the current condition to the CCTV footage.

Exactly, I think he is just USING the memory of the earbud, regardless of when it occurred in the order of events, to justify his " story" of blacking out.
Agreed.
Just the fact that the "earbud
came up in his vocabulary and "on his lap"...... I am guessing these are things that really play a part in what happened.

I’m new and more of a lurker, so please forgive me if I don’t have the hang of posting on this forum.

I don’t like to carry anything while I’m running. The most innocuous thing can become annoying when you are hot and tired. If I felt my route was dangerous enough that I needed to carry a weapon, I’d either change my route or run at the gym.

I was followed once while running. It was in the middle of the day in a place I thought was safe. It’s terrifying and I think they were “only” trying to scare me. I can’t imagine the fear Mollie felt. I think she felt like her route was safe.
I agree. For recreational purposes we would be looking for somewhere we felt safe to run. Someone without a car, like Mollie, though, might find themselves having to run or walk where they don't feel entirely safe. I still think I'd likely cut myself with one of those things before ever having to use it on someone else.

If he's so shameful, why did he not lead LE to her body far sooner for Mollie's sake and that of her family? He confessed because he got caught and because all roads pointed to him and that car, and even then he did not give up any details of his crime. She said something that caused his anger, he saw that her head was bleeding, her ear piece was just suddenly in his lap. Ted Bundy once said something to the effect that he was sorry, or it was tragic, or whatever, that these women "were harmed". As if he was not the cause and was merely observing how awful from a distance.

I don't know what the DSM 'diagnosis' is here, but I call it a lack of conscience from the point of his stalking, to abduction, to Mollie was found decomposing in a cornfield. He knows he did all of that yet he sat out an extensive, expensive and meticulous investigation until he could no longer hide.
Yes!!! Agree with everything you said. I don't know who you are responding to, but I do agree that he did not " feel" shame.

It is only relevant if Rivera has a narcissistic personality disorder or something along those lines. It can even apply to Autism. I have detailed below a more descriptive answer. But yes, these characteristics are what account for the Disorder. It is how a diagnosis is made. There must be a certain amount of behaviors present in order to meet the criteria. Although some experts disagree on certain things, the basic criteria is agreed upon. The answer to your first question is yes, it is a combination of exactly all the things you mentioned. There are many ways to measure ANY diagnosis, it is never just one thing. A combination is necessary, (including observations and any one instrument should never be used to determine a diagnosis. As for personal opinion, it is not quite that but rather the conclusions based on the above things I mentioned. The psychologist then makes a decision on a diagnosis. And then there is this problem: Several psychologists can administer various tests and come up with different results. So in a trial, you need to look for consistency. Look at the Jodi Arias trial, for example. ( what a fiasco) does this answer your questions?
Ms Betsy, are you a psychologist? Just wondering what your best diagnosis would be at this point? I have a online research type education, part of it personal to me, and I have my ideas, but what do you think? (Sorry if you’ve posted your idea before, sometimes the thread moves too fast to keep up!)

It's a possibilty; she might have fallen over; sprained an ankle.
It would take more than a sprained ankle to get me in a car with a stranger so close by to my mother's home.

Regarding CR's "blocked memory" event, maybe he feels an obligation to tell what he 'knows' in the presence of LE, especially since being caught dead-to-rights and feigning 'blocked memory' episodes is a way for him to justify to LE that he can't tell them everything he really knows? Are there any psychologists on the thread who could weigh in on this?

No doubt the defence will arrange for all sorts of tests to be carried out and reports on his 'black out' spells produced for the court. They will get a whole load of expert witnesses.

I hadn't heard that the car was also seen around her home from any other source. I wonder if that is accurate.
The car was only surveilled on the street NEAR her home as LE previously provided but not driving up and down Des Moines St in front of BF house! Profiler point was Mollie was stalked - CR was in his car following her on jog. MOO

Goat yoga is a current (or passing) fad. I'm waiting to see if ' Running with bears (or wolves)' could become the next wave.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. MOO

The good thing is the CCTV footage LE has would of captured the vehicle from most angles as he was busy driving around; so they can check the current condition to the CCTV footage.
The video was recovered from home owner and not the angles you suggest. LE couldn't determine license plate/tag or make out driver from this video.

BBM.

Do you have examples from published sources establishing this commonality?

If he feels his mind superior, why does he fear the public's response?

What do you mean by "not necessarily ashamed"?

Thank you.
I hope you understand my answer. I just read it and it seems like a long rambling, bunch of mumbo jumbo if you have no interest in that field. If you are still interested, I guess I can message you if you want to know more, I do not want to bore everyone to tears I get excited about it but some people don't really believe in " psychology." That's fine too. It's a controversial subject. It's behavior. And this man Rivera behaved very badly.

We don't know that he is a stranger. He's lived in the area for 4 years. Mollie might have seen him with his ex-girlfriend.

Someone sharing his first and middle name (the Rivera is missing) was arrested In DeKalb Co Georgia in Oct 2015. There isn’t a mug shot and the height is listed at 5’0 (not 5’6”) Birthday listed has year only (not mm/dd/) 1997 & age as 18. I don’t know how often mistakes are made in arrest records, but it spelled his first name like he spells it...
On the DeKalb County Clerk website, it has the DOB listed as 10/03/1997, height listed as 5'9", and the charge listed as theft by shoplifting. So it's probably not him.
