Friday, August 31st:
*Prelim Hearing (@ 2pm CT) – IA – Mollie Cecilia Tibbetts (20) (July 18, 2018; found Aug. 21, 2018) – Cristhian Bahena Rivera (24) arrested & charged (8/21/18) with 1st degree murder. $1M cash only bond.
ICE logged an immigration detainer on Rivera. Confessed to killing Mollie.
8/22/18 Update: 1st appearance – Defense asks for gag order; files document that CBR is working legally in Iowa; employer offered info that it is not true. Judge denies gag order request. Did not enter plea. Next Prelim Hearing on 8/31, if convicted it would be a life sentence without possibility of parole. No death penalty in Iowa. Maggistrate Crookham-Johnson on Wednesday continued to allow cameras in the courtroom. She denied the defense motion for a private hearing, saying media coverage of the initial appearance wouldn’t violate Rivera’s right to a fair trial because he wasn’t going to be asked that day to make statements about the facts of the case. After hearing defense files motion for private hearing, on the defense’s request, Crookham also set a schedule for a district court to review a motion to implement a gag order on the case (no date mentioned).
This link says today's (2nd) preliminary hearing can be watched live at 3 pm ET:

Do we know the circumstances of how his relationship with the mother of his child ended? Was there reports he was violent there etc?

Supposedly the mother of his child cheated on him which caused the split. The info was in a DailyMail article.

Maybe I am just in a foul mood today and should take a nap. But reading through other threads I’m just amazed how people think someone should have heard or seen something and intervened. My daughter was taken out of my car by her non-custodial father at a traffic light on a 6 lane road. There were cars everywhere. I screamed for help and no one came....actually no one even wanted to pay attention. It could have just as easily been a stranger taking her and no one did, saw or heard anything even after LE questioned people. Why? Because that is human nature to not get involved until something goes wrong....then they remember something that was off. I am sure IMO that we will hear later of people noticing “a fight” or some sort of “disturbance” and thought nothing of it. Since that day I call LE on anything I see that is not right. They can investigate and I know I did the right thing.

Other than a few drainage ditches and cropland, I don't see anywhere between the Middle and Boundary area all the way to the end at 385th and 200 that would be a good place for CR to have assaulted/killed MT. If he only managed to get her into his trunk/car, do you think he would have driven for awhile before getting her out? Or do you think he'd do it right away? I think right away. There are places all over he could have taken her, but IMO, this is the closest. There is a pull-off just on the south side of the tracks, a wooded area, water nearby...

It is challenging to decipher what we know, and translate that to an understanding of where she was, and what happened at those locations.

We have three locations:
  • Boundary and Middle Str (CCTV)
  • 1900 385 Ave (location of incident per arrest warrant)
  • Cornfield (body location)
The questions seem to be:
  • where was she abducted
  • where was she assaulted
  • where was she murdered
She was identified by the clothing found with her body, which suggests that she was at best partially clothed when found and that all clothing were found at that location.

If we take the most straight forward interpretation, Mollie was stalked at Boundary and Middle Str., abducted at 1900 385 Ave, and driven to the cornfield where she was sexually assaulted and murdered.

Ding, ding, ding Chicken dinner (or tofu if you go that way)! Thanks! This is why I hang around here.

Does anyone have a map (or google earth satellite view) showing the exact location where Mollie's body was located?

One would think if true that would cause a block out. Apparently it didn't as she is still alive.

No excuses for what he has done. Zero.
Working in a community very closely w many illegals I will say in my experience they do have a sense of self entitlement in a way that they are very pushy.

>>>> respectfully snipped for space <<<<
Thanks, much, Cortne -- There was nothing uncivil about your post IMO! It does give us more insight as to possibly why he was apparently angered, and why he did what he did that night. He probably took what she may have said, or a look from her, etc., as an insult. SMH. Her death is such a loss to all, especially to those who loved her. <----- That language should be universal, IMO.

You're right. And MT was taken on a rural blacktop road after most people had eaten supper. Who might have been out and about to see? Hope that you and yours are well.

The thing is....and I feel like I’ve said this a thousand times ....pretty sure 385 has hills after it crosses 185. An assault could easily take place in one of those dips in the road. What you can see from a satellite view can be a heck of a lot different at eye level.

"His memory picks up again at an intersection where he noticed a headphone earpiece in his lap and realized he had put Tibbetts in his trunk, where he found her with blood on her head, it said. He then dragged her into a secluded place in a cornfield, where he left her face up and covered her with corn stalks."

Man charged with killing Mollie Tibbetts is an undocumented immigrant, authorities say

IF she was deceased when placed in the corn field, could the multiple sharp force injuries be on her head? I was picturing them on her torso. Now I'm not so sure.

We’re all good. This was a long time ago!!! She is now a senior in college and doesn’t even remember the event. If there was indeed a struggle, I can’t help but to imagine Mollie hoping someone would come to help. Unfortunately it never happened. We can only hope for justice at this point.

But if there is nowhere out of sight to do the crime, and your car is parked on the edge of the road, you'd be worried about someone coming over the hill at any moment.

Bravo, Bravo! I caught what you did there.

You get the fish plate and a beer for the link! See you on the other side. Thanks.
No problem. I had been checking the website all day, waiting for something relevant to show up before I posted the link, then read a little closer and realized (duh), that it wasn't going to show anything until it was time for it to go 'live'. Long week, time for Friday fish fry and that beer!

I think CBR was willing to take that chance. I think it happened very fast.
