It's very easy. Once you get someone SS number, or even a credit card number, you can get all the information you need. I have a friend who has spent the better part of her adult life fighting identity theft. She was mugged, her license was in the purse along with banking and credit cards. Years later she applied for a home loan and was denied based on several unpaid credit cards, credit card fraud and passing worthless instruments. That was her first indication that her identity had been stolen. It's plagued her ever since. Every time she buys a car, filing for parent plus loans, etc. It's been a nightmare. Not only was her identity stolen it was sold and although it made no sense, she was apparently living in several states across the US at the same time and no one caught it.
We are allowed one free credit report a year from each credit bureau. Every four months order one from one of the three. After four months order another from another bureau. Four months later order from the third. Repeat yearly. You can also put a freeze on your credit with the three organizations.

I would like to assume since CR/JB was driving a car LE said belongs to him, he would have a drivers licence and registration instead of a State ID. That doesn't make sense... Who was the vehicle registered to????

Not necessarily. You don't need a driver's license to own a car. You just need it to drive the car legally.

Identity theft is very harmful to identity theft victims. There really is no excuse for an employer not to use e-Verify and I was flabbergasted to learn it isn't mandatory in some states.

The government already knows if someone has stolen your identity, and you are never told.

Wages are reported quarterly, and if you file for unemployment, Social Security, any type of government benefit, you have to report your employers, where you have worked, and wages are matched under your Social Security number. We can already see what is there, it is up to you to verify the information.

Often, a Social Security number will pull up wages for another name, employer that seems "unusual", and the wages are just removed from the Social Security number.

Surprising, isn't it? But that money floats the system, because that employer is paying taxes, Social Security, Unemployment insurance, on that number, for a person who can never access that benefit.

It creates unreal havoc in your life

My card number was stolen from a pizza, within an hour 5 grand flew out of my account.

I tracked all the people down and the bank didn’t care, they just refunded me my money

What a racquet
Same thing happened to me last year.

LE hasn't told us that information.

They are required to verify an employee's eligibility for employment. If that employee has a SS# and a license that is all that is required. Every person has to fill out and I-9 form as proof of eligibility. If the documentation appears valid, that's the verification. With a valid license and SS card, how would an employer know someone was an illegal immigrant?

And what type of drivers license did he have, name and how he obtained it. If he had insurance (not likely) they never would have paid in the event of an accident.

If he had Obamacare he may have used a fraudulent name as well. Doctors are now asking for and copying and video if all patients. Emergency rooms as well.

Anything legal using JOHN BUDD is another fraud. I hope LE has all of his IDs.

If he’s named in birth cert. and is part of a welfare claim there’s another one.

Geeeeeeze. Louizzzzzeee this guy is most likely in a bunch of trouble after he gets through the murder trial. What’s more he’ll cause those close to him some as well.

Without a doubt those close to him knew if his alias.

Yes I know, all too well having had mine stolen.

I just don’t want to go against TOS

It’s a huge market for fake documents
I too have had my SSN number stolen. It’s been an IRS and credit nightmare.

How is CR’s immigrant status different from the other 8 million who are illegal workers? Surely they’ve not all obtained fake ID or they wouldn’t be recognized as illegal? Thanks to anyone who is able to offer some insight because I’m just curious.

BBM
“About 8 million of them have jobs, making up 5 percent of the U.S. workforce, figures that have remained more or less steady for the past decade.

Their representation in particular industries is even more pronounced, and the Department of Agriculture estimates that about half of the nation's farmworkers are unauthorized, while 15 percent of those in construction lack papers – more than the share of legal immigrants in either industry. In the service sector, which would include jobs such as fast food and domestic help, the figure is about 9 percent. ..”
These U.S. industries can't work without illegal immigrants

I expect some sectors within Corporate America don't want this aspect to change: 'cheap labor'; i.e.: lower rate of pay, minimal to none of health care and 'benefits' (which equates to mostly none). Unfortunately, although the Fed estimates/publishes the number of "illegals" in the country, no one is really sure of the actual number. It could be more, could be less, it depends on which way the pol. winds are blowing. The worst affect of this? I believe it is more difficult to weed out the nefarious (includes those who go beyond the lawlessness of being "illegal", read: criminal types) because I expect they keep more to themselves/their own groups, with minimal exposure to the general public and therefore less scrutiny and observation of character. We have to wait until one of those nefarious steps out of their comfort zone and lashes out with such severity.

I read an article that said the feds are considering requiring Social Security to notify the valid owner every time the number is used for employment purposes. Maybe I'm wrong and it is Congress that is considering making such notification a law.

I think he only had a state ID, not a DL

The car was not his

Everything connected to him through work was illegal, he was a ghost in essence.

And like his dad said, he could have just come home to Mexico

LE may use this situation to press his relative for info promising no trouble for them if they think they have any legit info to add, moo

OT but most credit card companies give you a free one upon request. I know Discover sends me one whenever I request it.

LOL...I believe someone must have been drinking a lot of BUD, or smoking some BUD, if they thought no one would question this one.

The problem is it funnels millions to SS, it’s basically keeping it afloat from articles I’ve read.

But I agree, there should be some way to verify no one is using our ID

Isn’t it amazing how the irs can hunt you down for 2 buck but this fraud is rampant?

LOL...In order to believe this, you would have to be drinking a lot of Bud, or smoking some bud.

You made me laugh so loud the dogs jumped!!

LOL, that will do a lot of good, if the SS# is obtained from the Social Security Death Index. Maybe they can send the notification to the cemetery. o_O

That’s the most puzzling aspect of this case

JB could have fled the state or country and either used his given name or purchase new fake ID and LE would be none the wiser

There are sites where old SS numbers are listed with names, it must be like a candy store
