That’s all directly on my way home, not a problem.
Thanks for all you do to give members here a frame of reference with your videos and photos. You are definitely not a 'verified reject', as your status states, in any way.

The case of Tara Calico

I have searched WS to look for more info on the Tara Calico case. But not able to find anything. If anyone has the link please tag me with it. TIA.

It’s an older case but has similarities to the MT case. The sheriffs statement, 10 years after her disappearance were powerful enough for me to wondering how often this happens.

On Tuesday, September 20, 1988, Calico left her home at about 9:30 am to go on her daily bike ride along New Mexico State Road 47.[4]

In 2008, Rene Rivera, the sheriff of Valencia County, claimed that he knew what had happened to Calico. He said he received information that two teenagers were following Calico in a Ford pickup truck, trying to grab at her and talk to her. The truck ended up hitting her and she fell off her bike; the men "panicked, took her and killed her."[2] Calico's case received extensive coverage on television programs such as A Current Affair, Unsolved Mysteries, and America's Most Wanted. It was also profiled on The Oprah Winfrey Show and 48 Hours.[3]

Rivera stated that he knew the names of those involved, but that, without a body, he could not make a case. He did not release the evidence that led him to this conclusion. Calico's stepfather, John Doel, disputed these claims, saying that the sheriff should not have made these comments if he was not willing to arrest anyone and that strong circumstantial evidence should be enough for a conviction.[2]

As of 2018 no arrests have been made and the case remains open.[16]

Odd, I take this to indicate CF files a discovery agreement on Sept 20th and 8 days later JF files a Bill of Particulars motion. Does the right or left hand know what the other is doing?

Mollie Tibbets Memorial - Race in Honor Of Missing Runner
Before Sunday morning, MC was afraid to run east of her house on 385th Avenue in Brooklyn, Iowa. It had been 74 days since her cousin Mollie Tibbetts had gone out for a run down C’s street and never returned, and 40 days since Tibbetts’s body was found in a cornfield outside of town, the victim of random murder.

East was the direction that Tibbetts, a 20-year-old student at the University of Iowa and avid runner, had been headed the night she was abducted. “It’s been heartbreaking knowing this happened so close to my house,” MC, 27, also a runner. “I get an unpleasant reminder every morning when I leave for work and every night when I come home from work.”

Tibbetts was known to high-five everyone at cross-country meets—even the opposing team, Wilson said. One of Tibbetts’s favorite quotes was “To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice your gift” by American running legend Steve Prefontaine. “That’s what this run is about,” Wilson said. “She would want us to rise above our fear and reclaim what is ours—a love of running and a love of life.”

I get why defense attorneys do it, and I think some defense attorneys think (wrongly) that the strength of your defense can be measured by the amount of papers you push around. But I don't like it. I think it can end up hurting a defendant more than helping. To me the defendant comes off callous and aloof with this type of stunt. If the evidence isn't there, obviously the case will not go forward or your client will be acquitted. But in many cases, you are going to try to get a plea to a lesser charge anyway. So having your client pretend he's innocent and has no idea what this whole thing is about when he'll plea to second degree murder in a couple of months makes me roll my eyes.
I can't find it now, but I had read there are pros and cons with demanding a Bill of Particular for the defendant. I wish I could find that link. I believe it said one of the cons it could backfire on the defendant.

It must be difficult to have to represent CR as his defense team. Whether you think he is guilty or not, the defense has to do whatever it takes.

I was hoping this case would be on a fast track. Evidentially, not.
It actually helps the cause to keep him in prison for the long haul if his defense team does all the things a normal, competent criminal defense team does. The last thing you want is the killer getting a retrial years down the road due to ineffective legal counsel. Whether we like it or not, he committed the offense in the US and thus is entitled to a competent and full legal defense.

Retrials/mistrials always get messy and justice is rarely served, especially when it's years later. Evidence gets stale/old, witnesses memories fade or change and all kinds of things are left to chance. Let this guy have his days in court and follow all normal due process steps so a jury of his peers can convict and a judge can lock him away for good with no crack left to slip under down the road.

Everything you stated here makes me think CR is much smarter and savvy than that of a person with a 5th or 6th grade education. Wondering if he had help in concocting his story? If not, he is much brighter than his defense attorneys want the public to believe, IMO. Where was he reading? Who was he talking to prior to questioning? Hopefully his computer (if he has one) and his cell hold the answers.

His father said 'if he had done it 'he would of headed back to Mexico, but he didn't', that for me is an odd thing to say; it's like he's putting in a defence for his son. A normal reaction would be something like; 'I know my son, he's innocent', I can think of countless others on similar lines. That's why if they can track down his digital communications; then that can be quite telling if the frequency of contact with family has increased since 18th July.

It could be that some discovery was delivered to Defendant. Perhaps the material wasn’t clear or perhaps something wasn’t sufficient to understand aspects of the charges. Perhaps one or both sides are playing games or buying time for some reason.

But I highly doubt the two defense attorneys would fail to understand exactly what each is doing. M

The public has no good understanding of the evidence LE has for evidence or the information they have discovered during the 6 weeks since Mollie was found.

The father's logic fails to take into account that his son thought he could get away with it. Obviously he wasn't expecting to be caught. Also if he a disappeared and went to Mexico, that would have been a big red flag, and would have probably solved the case almost immediately. If he had run to Mexico, he would have either been caught before he ever made it to the border, or he would have been arrested in Mexico shortly after, and would be awaiting extradition back to the US.

Hi Everyone,
I'm a new member but have been following this case and each thread from day 1. It really resonated with me as I lived in Blackhawk County, IA for 8 years.

I hoped beyond hope that MT would be found alive. She was a beautiful, young woman with a warm and compassionate heart and a lifetime of endless possibilities in front of her. Until...……….the cold blooded CR predator caught sight of her. Sad beyond words and I hope he never sees the light of day as a free man again.

I just read this article and it gave me chills! Do you think LE in MT's case has pinned the timeframe based on her Fitbit activity t0 7:45-8:28 pm on the Arrest Warrant?

Yes, I think LE has a timeframe based on the FitBit time and activity.

Welcome to WS!

I know there is due justice, but I think it is crap that the person that lead them to Mollie's body and was seen on video following her is now playing dumb. UGHHH
