Your welcome. And I bet you anything the trial won't start in November either. I wish he would plead guilty like the man did with the golfer from Ames, Ia. Sorry I can't remember their names right now. CR's lawyers are going to do everything to delay this trial and try to get him out of the confession he made. I'm 100% convinced that LE did everything right when they interviewed him. I'll admit I haven't been following very much lately, but still read major updates and will follow the trial. This makes me all so angry.

Well, you're certainly not alone. ;)

www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2019/06/23/mollie-tibbetts-murder-case-did-officers-violate-suspects-rights/1476295001/ Here is a new and in depth article published today that details what the defense lawyers and prosecution are arguing about as far as evidence admission and interviewing CBR. IMO-this is now a little bit more complicated than I thought.
I firmly believe the FBI and LE followed the guidelines in their interrogation of CR. This was a huge, national headlines case with intense public and political scrutiny. I just don't see them doing anything that would jeopardize the interview and confession. Of course it's the defense's job to argue the point, but I see it all coming in.

Thanks for the update. :)
  • August 23 - Suppression hearing; judge will determine what can and cannot be permitted at trial.
  • November 12 - Trial.
Maybe we’ll get a conviction and LWOP for Christmas this year.

Whoa- way more complicated. Admission of all evidence- including Mollie’s body- could hinge on the moment the Judge decides CBR was “in custody”. Speechless!

Man, this article makes me sick. I don't see the arguments of language barrier or education level sticking, but all the ins and outs of the interview process and custody timing seem plausible in the right legal hands. Makes me mad, too!

Mollie Tibbetts' mother talks to Dr. Oz about her daughter
[...]

Laura Calderwood is Mollie’s mother. She says following Mollie's murder, the kindness poured in.

Several groups were created in her daughter's memory, including one that sent 15,000 cards as a random act of kindness.

It turns out a woman in Iowa City who knew Mollie got one of those cards.

"He took one of the cards and was handing it out on campus. He handed it to a homeless woman and the homeless woman said 'Oh i know Mollie. She would talk to me on campus’. And whenever Mollie would ever run into the woman, and I have yet to meet her, but I will, Mollie took the time to pay it forward," said Calderwood.

I always try and give defense attys the benefit of the doubt and think they are not necessarily trying to let a murderer off but are trying to find justice too. It shouldn’t be about winning, but about justice. They frequently don’t live up to that standard.
I hope here the attys are just hoping to rattle the prosecution into negotiating a lesser sentence because I don’t really see anything explained in this article that seems less than ordinary. Telling a person being questioned that it’s in their best interest to come clean or confess seems standard interrogation technique. There also never seemed to be a time where there was no one there that could either speak Spanish directly to the defendant or someone there to interpret. I hope the judge quickly slaps this down.

The role of a defense attorney is to achieve the best possible result for their client regardless of guilt.

Watched the video snip of Melissa Moore above, and I didn't recall that LE collected footage of CR following & interacting with Mollie early during the investigation.

Reports are neighbor provided LE with his surveillance footage when they canvassed the area after she was first reported missing.

Wondering why there was a delay in watching the footage.....

I don’t think the exact location of the camera was ever specified, but we had enough info at the time to give us a ballpark idea. I drove that route several times trying to visualize the perspective a camera might have shown, and personally I came to the conclusion that the camera footage in question was likely at least a couple hundred yards away and not specifically focused on that area. Is it possible that the camera owner didn’t realize it because it was so brief and way off in the background?

I’m definitely not feeling sorry for this guy but considering what was written in the affidavit it sort of appeared as if CR was anxious to confess his involvement once LE set their sights on him. So I’m just somewhat surprised to learn instead it appears it was a very long drawn out process.

“He was then transported to the sheriff's office, where they arrived at 3:35 p.m. The interview, including 10 breaks, began at about 5:05 p.m. and ended at 4:15 a.m., according to court records filed by the prosecution.”

I'm not worried about the defense's argument over CR's questioning at the station.

Prosecutor has 2 things critical to proving his guilt:

CR gave consent (verbal & written) for officers to search his vehicle at the farm (vehicle contained blood/hair belonging to MT); and CR led investigators to Mollie's body in the corn field.

I haven’t heard about televised access to the trial yet, but there aren’t too many plausable reasons one could lead LE to a body in the middle of mid-August’s soaring corn- unless he put her there himself. I’ve zero doubt he killed her.
IMO, it's not surprising that CR's defense team is going to make noise and try to pick apart the 'interview' during which CR admitted to LE to: (1) following MT in his car while she was running on a remote road outside of town, (2) coming up on her from behind on foot and trying to 'engage' with her, (3) her threatening to call 911 on her cell phone if he didn't leave her alone, (4) him claiming he 'blocked out his memory' of what happened next (cowardly way out of admitting to what he did IMO), but he realized after he was sitting in the drivers' seat and looked down to find her earbuds in his lap, at which point he found her in the trunk of his car with blood on the side of her head, and (5) disposing of her body in a remote cornfield that he then took LE to.

What he told LE was his "story" of what happened leading up to MT's murder under (1) - (4), but the fact that he showed LE where her body was in the remote cornfield under (5) I agree is not possible to wriggle out of.

LE also has him on video from a neighboring farm driving back and forth several times stalking her and presumably checking the area to see if the coast was clear to accost her, and then he did, so that would go to premeditation, IMO.

I remember all the great videos you did for us SN. Are you still planning on attending? I'm sure it's hard to plan with all the delays, but I would love for you to be able to go. :)

I really want to, but I need to play it by ear now. I had some unexpected issues and not sure what my availability will be. Still hoping it works out, there are too many details I want to hear.
